  11/06/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Stetson Bennett passed for 255 yards and two touchdowns before giving way to former starter JT Daniels, leading No. 1 Georgia to a 43-6 win over Missouri on Saturday. The game opened new questions for Georgia at quarterback while affirming the Bulldogs' season-long defensive dominance. Missouri was held to 273 total yards in Georgia's seventh game of the season allowing no more than 10 points. Missouri's Tyler Badie, the SEC's leading rusher, was held to 41 yards on the ground. Georgia (9-0, 7-0 Southeastern Conference) was impressive in scoring 40 unanswered points after Missouri's early 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs began the day leading the nation with their average of 6.6 points allowed per game.

Georgia led 34-3 before Missouri freshman quarterback Tyler Macon's 28-yard pass to Tauskie Dove set up a first down at the Georgia 3 in the final minute. The Georgia defense held on three plays from the 1. Daniels, who opened the season as Georgia's starter before suffering a lat injury, came off the sideline to make his first appearance since late September. Bennett, making his fifth consecutive start, enjoyed one of his best games. The former walk-on completed 13 of 19 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Daniels entered the game midway through the third quarter. Daniels, making his first appearance since his start against Vanderbilt on Sept. 25, played as if he has fully recovered from the injury that forced him to miss a month. Daniels completed a fourth-down pass to tight end John FitzPatrick before completing a 7-yard scoring pass to Ladd McConkey for a 40-3 lead. - Georgia/AP College Football

  10/27/21 - Gabriel TaylorrSr/2025, Rice, 5-10, 190 (DS#38 FS) + More +

OCT 25 C-USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rice S Gabe Taylor was credited with a career-best 10 tackles, forced a fumble and knocked down a game-ending Hail Mary pass in the Owls' 30-24 win over defending conference champion UAB. Taylor set up the Owls second touchdown in the opening minutes of the game by forcing a fumble on the Blazers' first play from scrimmage after the Owls had taken a 7-0 lead. Two of his 10 tackles forced Blazers punts at the end of the second and start of the third quarter with Rice holding a 20-14 lead. After the Owls had re-taken the lead with 3:22 left in half and the Blazers receiving the ball to open the second, Taylor's stop on third-and-four stop at the UAB 34 forced the first Blazers punt of the day. On the opening series of the second half, Taylor made tackles on two of three plays, including stopping a third-and-three effort. Rice responded with a 10-play, 65-yard drive to push the lead to 27-14. Taylor ended the game by knocking down Dylan Hopkins' final pass attempt as the clock ran out. - C-USA Football

OCT 25 C-USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rice QB Wiley Green led Rice to a 30-24 win over defending C-USA champion UAB by throwing for 205 yards and a career-high three touchdowns, while completing a career-best 77% of his passes. Seven of his 17 completions converted either third or fourth downs for the Owls, three of them on a 13-play, 72 yard drive to a field goal that ate up over half of the fourth quarter and gave the Owls a two-score lead. The last of those completions was a 17-yarder to Cedric Patterson III on third and seven to place the ball at the UAB 12. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Rice vs. UAB overall and a three-game losing streak in Birmingham. - C-USA Football

  10/23/21 - Wiley GreenrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 211 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Wiley Green threw three touchdown passes and Rice held off UAB 30-24 on Saturday in a key Conference USA matchup. It was the fifth straight win for Rice (3-4, 2-1) over UAB (5-3, 3-1), which entered unbeaten in the conference and tied with UTSA and UTEP atop the West Division standings. Matt Quinn's 33-yard field goal for UAB capped the scoring with 3:23 remaining. The Blazers forced a three-and-out and then made it near midfield on the ensuing series. But an unsportsmanlike penalty was followed two plays later with an incomplete pass on fourth-and-23 to end the game.

Green threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to August Pitre III late in the second quarter and a 1-yarder to Jaeger Bull midway through the third that stretched the Owls' lead to 27-14. Green also hit Bull on a short scoring throw in the first quarter. Green was 17-of-22 passing for 205 yards. Pitre made six catches for 108 yards. Dylan Hopkins threw for 318 yards and a touchdown and interception for the Blazers. DeWayne McBride ran for 95 yards and two touchdowns. The Owls have won four of the five meetings in Birmingham. - Rice/AP College Football

Jake Constantine threw for two scores and Rice's defense snared four interceptions, and the Owls never trailed in a 24-19 win over Southern Mississippi on Saturday night. Following five straight losses against its Conference USA foe, Rice (2-3, 1-0) now has a two-game winning streak against the Golden Eagles (1-4, 0-1). Constantine threw a 19-yard touchdown to Robert French to start the second half and extend Rice's lead to 17-7. After the Owls' defense came up with a pick on Southern Mississippi's next drive, Cedric Patterson III ran for a 38-yard score for a 24-7 lead. The Golden Eagles responded on the following kickoff when Camron Harrell ran it back 95 yards to reduce the deficit to 10. Jake Lange threw for 304 yards for Southern Mississippi with a touchdown and three interceptions. Jason Brownlee caught eight passes for 127 yards. - Rice/AP College Football

Jordan Myers ran for four touchdowns and Jake Constantine was efficient throwing ball and had a scoring pass and Rice beat Texas Southern 48-34 on Saturday. Constantine started with a bang connecting with Cedric Patterson III on 73-yard scoring play on the game's first play from scrimmage. Later, Myers crashed in from 1-yard out to complete a seven-play, 85-yard drive with 5:23 left in the first quarter for a two-score lead. His second score, also a 1-yard dive, extended the margin to 20-3 with 7:16 left before the break. Myers' third 1-yard touchdown plunge made it a 34-13 contest with 2:20 remaining in the third quarter. His 64-yard scoring run with 9:43 left made it a 41-20 contest. Constantine was 18-for-23 passing for 271 yards and Myers ran for 160 yards on 26 carries for Rice (1-3).   09/25/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

JT Daniels threw for 121 yards and two touchdowns playing only the first quarter as No. 2 Georgia dominated Vanderbilt 62-0 Saturday in the Bulldogs' biggest win in a series that started in 1893. This game was effectively over when Georgia (4-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) led 35-0 after the first quarter. The Bulldogs started three of four drives in Vandy territory. They recovered a fumble on a kickoff to set up one TD, then Christopher Smith intercepted a pass to set up a second TD less than 30 seconds later. Bulldogs' fans turned this into their home away from Sanford Stadium with Georgia red even in seats behind the Vanderbilt bench.

They got to watch the Bulldogs post their first shutout this season, forcing Vandy three-and-out nine times. Georgia nearly had more points than Vandy managed yards, outgaining the Commodores 524-77. Vanderbilt (1-3, 0-1) lost its fourth straight to Georgia and its 14th straight SEC game, a skid that could be longer if COVID issues hadn't forced Vandy to cancel its visit on Georgia's Senior Day last season. A program that won in Athens in 2016 showed how much rebuilding first-year coach Clark Lea faces. Tight end Brock Bowers started the scoring with a 12-yard run on an end around with 11:21 left in the opening quarter. Daniels threw a pass to Bowers, who finished off a 25-yard TD. Zamir White scored two plays after James Ziglor fumbled the kickoff, and Daniels hit Ladd McConkey for a 12-yard TD after the interception. Georgia actually had to drive 71 yards on its final scoring drive of the first quarter, and Ladd McConkey ran 24 yards for the TD. - Georgia/AP College Football

  09/18/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

JT Daniels returned as No. 2 Georgia's starting quarterback Saturday night against South Carolina. Daniels didn't play in last weekend's 56-7 victory over UAB because of an oblique injury. Stetson Bennett stepped in and tied a school record with five touchdown passes - all in the first half. Despite Bennett's performance, the Bulldogs went back to the player who came into the season as their undisputed No. 1 quarterback. A transfer from Southern Cal, Daniels has guided the Bulldogs to a 5-0 record since taking over as the starter last season.

Daniels wasted no time making an impact in his return to the field. On the first play from scrimmage, he completed a 21-yard pass to Brock Bowers to spark a six-play, 75-yard drive that gave the Bulldogs a quick 7-0 lead. The next time Georgia had the ball, Daniels hooked up with Jermaine Burton for a 43-yard touchdown that stretched the lead to 14-3. South Carolina also had some suspense at quarterback. Former graduate assistant Zeb Noland made his third straight start in place of Luke Doty, who went down in practice last month with a foot sprain. - Georgia/AP College Football

  09/11/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Quarterback JT Daniels did not start Saturday for No. 2 Georgia against UAB because of an oblique injury. Daniels was replaced by senior Stetson Bennett, who started five games last season for the Bulldogs. Bennett got off to a blistering start, throwing a pair of touchdown passes in the first five minutes to stake Georgia to a 14-0 lead. Daniels' injury was not believed to be serious, but it did cause him enough discomfort that the Bulldogs decided to take no chances against the Blazers, who were a 25 1/2-point underdog. In the season-opening victory over Clemson, Daniels completed 22 of 30 passes for 135 yards with an interception. Neither team scored an offensive touchdown in Georgia's 10-3 victory, which was decided by an interception return for a touchdown. Daniels, a transfer from Southern Cal, is 5-0 as a starting quarterback since arriving at Georgia. - AP College Football

  09/09/21 - JT DanielsrSr/2024, Rice, 6-2, 237 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Georgia quarterback JT Daniels has had limited reps in practice ahead of Saturday's home opener against UAB due to an injury, according to a report Wednesday from Dawg Post. Daniels, according to the report, is said to be facing an upper-body injury. No other specifics were given, other than that Daniels has missed some opportunities with the first-team offense that he would normally receive. 247Sports' Dawgs247 site on Wednesday reported, citing sources, that "the injury isn't long-term but that Daniels is truly day to day." After playing four games in 2020, Daniels opened his first full campaign as a Bulldog with 130 yards at a 22-for-30 clip in the 10-3 win over Clemson in Charlotte. Daniels spoke with reporters after the game, so it is unclear when the injury occurred or became serious enough to lead to limited practice time. - Macon Telegraph

  08/03/21 - Matt SykesrSr/2025, Rice, 6-4, 210 (DS#107 WR) + More +

UCLA receiver Matt Sykes has made most of his opportunities as he enters his second season with the Bruins. Sykes worked with the first team throughout the final week of spring camp as veteran receivers Kyle Philips and Chase Cota were limited to take care of minor injuries. "With all of those guys down I had a ton of reps," Sykes said. "It's just been mental repetitions and experience so I'm definitely a lot more comfortable working (with the starting unit.)" The 6-foot-4, 200-pound sophomore has the size to be a deep-threat option in the passing game, but is willing to show his versatility wherever he can on offense.

"I'm just going to do whatever coach (Chip) Kelly wants me to do," Sykes said. "If he wants me to block or get short yardage gains or even take the top off, but that's what we are working on every day." He started in two of the six games he played as a true freshman last season but recorded just three catches for 24 yards. Kelly has recognized Sykes' progression from this time last year as a true freshman trying to come in and learn while spring and fall camp was disrupted by the pandemic. "I think he's done a really nice job," Kelly said about Sykes in May. "This is really his first time to spend on fundamentals and learn the real intricacies of playing the position." - Orange County Register
