  Chase Jenkins threw a pair of touchdown passes and Rice shut out UAB in the second half for a 24-17 victory on Saturday. UAB had possession at its 44 but Ryder Burton was sacked on third-and-5 and then threw an incomplete pass on fourth-and-12 with 1:42 left. The Blazers did get the ball back with 50 seconds left, but stalled near midfield before time expired.

Jenkins' 23-yard touchdown pass to Tyson Thompson knotted it at 7 midway through the first quarter, and his 3-yard TD pass to Aaron Turner made it 21-17 midway through the third. Jenkins completed 11 of 15 passes for 41 yards. Quinton Jackson had 81 yards rushing on 22 carries for Rice (5-5, 2-4 American Conference). D'Andre Hardeman Jr. also had a touchdown run for the Owls. Burton was 18-of-34 passing for 213 yards and threw two touchdown passes for UAB (3-6, 1-4). Iverson Hooks caught six passes for 89 yards with a touchdown.   Quinton Jackson tallied career highs of 256 combined yards and four touchdowns, including the game-winning score in the second overtime, to lead Rice to a 37-34 win over UConn on Saturday and snap a three-game losing streak. Jackson broke out for a 73-yard rushing touchdown and a 75-yard receiving score in the second quarter. He scored another rushing touchdown in the first overtime, then broke a tackle in the second overtime to win the game for Rice (4-4) on a 23-yard score. It's the first time in Jackson's career he's had more than one rushing touchdown. He set career highs in rushing yardage with 176, receiving yardage with 80 and total yardage.

Joe Fagnano led the Huskies (5-3) offense with 344 yards passing and three touchdowns. He opened the scoring with an 80-yard connection to Skyler Bell early in the first quarter. In rainy conditions, Chris Freeman slipped on a 46-yard attempt that would have put UConn up in fourth quarter. In the third quarter, he made his 12th consecutive field goal, a program record. He added a 41-yard field goal in the second overtime. The loss snaped a five-game winning streak for UConn, which would have been bowl eligible with a win. - Rice/AP College Football

  Chase Jenkins threw for a touchdown and ran for another, Daelen Alexander rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns, and Rice beat Charlotte 28-17 on Thursday night in an American Conference opener for both teams. Rice has opened a season 3-1 for the first time since 2001, when the Owls won six of the first seven. Scott Abell is the first coach to have three wins in his first four games of a career at Rice since Bo Hagan in 1967. Jenkins was 8-of-11 passing for 87 yards, and he carried it 10 times for 71 yards. Quinton Jackson added 80 yards on the ground.

Charlotte's first touchdown came with 7:27 left in the fourth quarter after Grayson Loftis' 31-yard connection with Javen Nicholas. A successful two-point conversion capped the scoring. Rice had a key sack on each of Charlotte's final two possessions to help seal it. Loftis was 15 of 31 for 186 yards for Charlotte (1-3). Liam Boyd went 3 of 4 on field-goal attempts, with a long of 40. Conner Harrell, who threw for 382 yards last week in a win over Monmouth, was 8 of 13 for 73 yards. Last season, Charlotte rallied for a 21-20 win at Rice Stadium after driving 77 yards in less than a minute to score a touchdown with 47 seconds left in the game. - Rice/AP College Football

  Chase Jenkins completed 10 of his 16 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 124 yards and another score, as Rice defeated Prairie View A&M 38-17 on Saturday night. After Prairie View scored the first touchdown, the Owls (2-1) scored 31 consecutive points to take a commanding lead early in the third quarter. Aaron Turner scored on a 52-yard dash to start the second quarter. Jenkins and Landon Ransom-Goelz connected on a 34-yard passing touchdown early in the third quarter.

Drew Devillier took over for Jenkins in the fourth, and threw his first career touchdown pass to Tyson Thompson. The Panthers scored both the first and last touchdowns of the game. Tevin Carter had one rushing and one passing touchdown, with 65 yards on the ground on 15 attempts.   Quinton Jackson rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown, Daelen Alexander added 74 yards on the ground and Rice beat Louisiana-Lafayette 14-12 on Saturday night. The teams combined for just 490 total yards, with Rice getting 251. Jackson capped a 13-play, 72-yard drive early in the second quarter to put Rice ahead 7-3. Aaron Turner added a 17-yard touchdown - the first of his career - with 3:38 left in the first half for an 11-point lead. Tony Sterner had a 47- and a 51-yard field goal in the first half, the last coming with 26 seconds left to get within 14-6.

ULL had the only second-half score when quarterback Walker Howard scored on a 25-yard rush with 1:45 left in the third. The Rice defense stopped Howard on a fourth-and-2 play with 6:30 remaining in the fourth. The defense also featured the third career interception by Jack Kane in the second quarter and a fumble recovery by Blake Boenisch later in the half. Chase Jenkins was 7 of 9 for 45 yards passing for Rice. Howard passed for 88 yards for Louisiana-Lafayette with an interception.
