  10/02/22 - Bo NixrSr/2024, Oregon + More +

Bo Nix threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more, and No. 13 Oregon won its fourth straight game with a 45-27 victory over Stanford on Saturday night. The Ducks (4-1, 2-0 Pac-12) have won 22 straight games at Autzen Stadium. They have not dropped a game this season after the opener against Georgia. Stanford (1-3, 0-3) hasn't won since its opener against Colgate. It was the Cardinal's third straight game against an opponent in the AP Top 25. They also fell to USC and Washington. Nix completed 16 of 29 passes for 161 yards and led Oregon with a career-best 141 yards rushing on six carries. Oregon had 351 yards on the ground compared to Stanford's 127. Cardinal quarterback Tanner McKee threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Casey Filkins rushed for a score and caught another TD pass. Oregon came from behind last weekend to beat Washington State 44-41.

The Ducks appeared to score on their opening drive of the game, but the pass from Nix to Kris Hutson was called back because of a ineligible player downfield. They settled for a 38-yard field goal from Camden Lewis. Before the end of the first quarter, Nix hit Chase Cota with a short pass and he sprinted into the end zone for a 48-yard touchdown. Joshua Karty kicked a 23-yard field goal for Stanford to narrow the margin to 10-3. But the Ducks answered with Nix's 10-yard touchdown pass to Troy Franklin. Linebacker Noah Sewell pretended to fly in celebration after running back a fumble 21 yards to set up Nix's 4-yard touchdown run. Jordan James added a 1-yard touchdown as time expired in the half to give the Ducks a 31-3 lead. While the Ducks had firm control of the game by the break, their opening half was marked by 10 penalties for 90 yards. - Oregon/AP College Football

What Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz feared Saturday night has been confirmed regarding Hawkeyes linebacker Jestin Jacobs, who will miss the rest of the season after an injury suffered in the Rutgers win. "Unfortunately, we did get bad news on Jestin," Ferentz said Tuesday. "Didn't sound good the other night, and that's been confirmed. So he's going to have to have surgery and miss the rest of the season. That's obviously a very tough break and tough for the team, but most importantly, just tough on the individual. "That's the worst part about injuries." Jacobs didn't return in the second half Saturday in what was his second injury issue of the season. Jacobs was injured in the season opener and returned for sporadic action against Nevada after missing the Iowa State game. Now, his season is over. In Jacobs' absence, expect to see more action from reserve linebackers Logan Klemp and Jay Higgins. "Logan's been in the program. He's been a really good special teams player and a leader," Ferentz said. "He's doing a fine job, and Jay (Higgins) gives us a little flexibility as well." - Iowa City Press-Citizen

SEPT 26 BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: K-State's Kobe Savage led K-State with 11 tackles in its 41-34 upset at No. 6 Oklahoma. His 11 stops are the most by a Wildcat in a game this season. The junior safety's effort helped hold OU eight points under its points-per-game average and 15 points less than the Sooners scored the previous week at Nebraska. The win at sixth-ranked Oklahoma was just the 11th all-time by K-State against an Associated Press top-10 team, while it was the fifth in a road game. - Big 12 Football

  09/24/22 - Bo NixrSr/2024, Oregon + More +

Quarterback Bo Nix threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Troy Franklin with 1:21 left to give No. 15 Oregon its first lead as the Ducks scored three late touchdowns to defeat Washington State 44-41 on Saturday. Washington State (3-1, 0-1 Pac-12) had taken a 34-22 lead with just over six minutes left, but the Ducks (3-1, 1-0) broke through on offense to secure the victory. Mase Funa iced the game for Oregon when he intercepted a pass by Cameron Ward and ran it back for a touchdown with a minute remaining.

Nix completed 33 of 44 passes for 428 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. The Ducks produced 626 yards of offense. Oregon's only loss was at No. 1 Georgia in the season opener. The Cougars scored on their first possession, as Ward capped a 75-yard drive by running the final five yards for a touchdown. Oregon drove to the WSU 5, but had to settle for a field goal by Camden Lewis when the WSU defense shut down two rushes from the 5 yard line. Nix led Oregon on a 75-yard drive, throwing a 1-yard touchdown pass to Cam McCormick with 3:48 left to close within 34-29 and set up the later heroics. - Oregon/AP College Football

  09/17/22 - Bo NixrSr/2024, Oregon + More +

Bo Nix threw for two touchdowns and ran for three more to lead No. 25 Oregon to a 41-20 victory over No. 12 BYU on Saturday. The victory extended Oregon's winning streak at Autzen Stadium to 21 games, the third-longest in the nation. Nix, a transfer from Auburn, completed 13 of 18 passes for 222 yards and ran for 35 yards on nine carries. Terrance Ferguson caught both of Nix's touchdown passes and finished with 24 yards receiving. Jaren Hall threw for 305 yards and two scores for BYU (2-1), which was coming off a big win at home over then-No. 9 Baylor that moved the Cougars up nine spots in the AP Top 25. They struggled on the ground against the Ducks, mustering just 61 rushing yards.

The Ducks (2-1) rebounded from a season-opening loss to Georgia with a 70-14 win at home over Eastern Washington last weekend. Nix ran two yards for a touchdown to give the Ducks an early lead. Camden Lewis added a 28-yard field goal to give Oregon a 10-0 lead after the opening quarter. Isaac Rex hauled down a pass from Jaren Hall for a 28-yard BYU touchdown early in the second. Oregon answered on the next drive when Nix found Troy Franklin with a 50-yard pass to get close, then ran on another 2-yard keeper to make it 17-7. Nix fired a 15-yard TD pass to Ferguson in the end zone to give Oregon a 24-7 lead heading into halftime. Nix added a 6-yard keeper early in the second half and he hit Ferguson with a 9-yard scoring pass to make it 38-7. Ferguson has four TD catches this season. Ty Thompson replaced Nix late in the third quarter. - Oregon/AP College Football

Dillon Gabriel threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and sixth-ranked Oklahoma hammered Nebraska 49-14 on Saturday in the Cornhuskers' first game following the firing of Scott Frost. The game was put on the schedule 10 years ago as the back end of a home-and-home series intended to celebrate what once was among college football's greatest rivalries. Instead, it was further confirmation the Cornhuskers are just a shell of the program that decades ago battled the Sooners for conference titles year-in and year-out. OU (3-0) posted its most lopsided victory over Nebraska (1-3) since a 45-10 win in 1990. The Sooners have won seven of eight against the Huskers. The next meetings are set for 2029 and '30.

The Huskers have lost 19 straight against Top 25 opponents and nine in a row against Bowl Subdivision teams. Frost's tenure, which lasted four years plus three games, was marked by close games. The first one under interim head coach Mickey Joseph was never in doubt after the opening quarter, and Memorial Stadium began emptying at halftime. Oklahoma scored 35 straight points after Nebraska opened the game with a six-play, 77-yard touchdown drive. The Huskers totaled just 71 yards on their next 37 plays in the first half and punted seven times, committed two turnovers and twice turned the ball over on downs before backup quarterback Chubba Purdy ran for a late touchdown. - Oklahoma/AP College Football

TRACKING TOP DRAFT PROSPECTS - WEEK 2: 10. Noah Sewell, rSo, ILB, Oregon, 6-2, 253, 1,...Sewell showed up on stats sheet with only one tackle in a 70-14 win over the Eastern Washington Eagles. The Ducks were recovering from their 49-3 thrashing of Oregon and everybody looked better against the Eagles. Previous week, No.9: Considered the best inside linebacker in the nation and a wrecking ball on defense, Sewell collected only two tackles with one assist in Oregon's embarrassing, 49-3, loss to Georgia. The Ducks seemed to be totally manhandled and it may take some film study to see if Sewell salvaged any self-respect in this one. - Frank Cooney/NFL Draft Scout

SEPT 12 BIG 12 CO-NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Oklahoma's Dillon Gabriel completed 75% of his pass attempts (21-of-28) for 296 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions (199.2 pass efficiency rating) in Oklahoma's 33-3 win over Kent State, a team picked by league coaches to win the Mid-American Conference's (MAC) East Division title. His touchdown passes covered 18, 36 and 58 yards. The redshirt junior, who has yet to commit a turnover this season, has thrown at least one TD pass in all 28 of his career games and at least two TD passes in 22 contests. - Big 12 Football

  09/11/22 - Bo NixrSr/2024, Oregon + More +

Bo Nix threw for 277 yards and five touchdowns and Oregon rebounded from its season-opening loss to Georgia with a 70-14 rout of Eastern Washington on Saturday night. It was Oregon's 20th straight win at Autzen Stadium and its 18th straight victory in a home opener. Troy Franklin caught 10 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown while Byron Cardwell caught a scoring pass and ran for another TD. Oregon was coming off a disheartening season-opening 49-3 loss to the No. 2 Bulldogs that dropped the Ducks out of the AP Top 25. Nix struggled, throwing for 173 yards with two interceptions.

Eastern Washington won its season opener 36-29 over Tennessee State. Quarterback Gunner Talkington threw for 348 yards and five touchdowns, and was named the Big Sky's offensive Player of the Week. Talkington threw for 87 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles, who managed just 187 yards in total offense. The Ducks had 607. Oregon scored on its first dive of the game when Nix hit Terrance Ferguson with a 13-yard TD pass. Noah Whittington's 5-yard dash down the middle doubled Oregon's lead and Ferguson caught a 19-yards touchdown pass from Nix to give the Ducks a 21-0 lead. Mar'Keise Irving added a 1-yard scoring run. Eastern Washington scored with six minutes left in the first half on Talkington's 7-yard scoring pass to Jett Carpenter. Oregon added two more touchdowns before halftime. Nix hit Cardwell with a 13-yard scoring pass before a 7-yard pass to Franklin. - Oregon/AP College Football
