  11/05/22 - Bo NixrSr/2024, Oregon + More +

Bo Nix and the Oregon offense found creative ways to score, including an offensive lineman catching a touchdown pass and a linebacker scoring from short, as the eighth-ranked Ducks routed Colorado 49-10 on Saturday. With the wind howling - 39 mph gusts - the Ducks (8-1, 6-0 Pac-12, No. 8 CFP) breezed to their eighth straight win since a 49-3 loss to No. 1 Georgia in the season opener. The Ducks dialed up one gadget play after another, with offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. catching a 4-yard TD pass to open the scoring and linebacker Noah Sewell scoring on a 1-yard plunge. Even Nix got into the trick-play act by catching an 18-yard touchdown pass from tailback Bucky Irving. The Ducks are the first FBS team to have a receiving TD from an O-lineman, a receiving score from a QB and a rushing TD by a defensive player in the same game since at least 1996, according to research provided by Oregon. Nix turned in another strong performance, completing 20 of 24 passes for 274 yards and two scores. He also had two rushing touchdowns. With his TD reception, Nix joined the company of Marcus Mariota (2012 and '14) and Joey Harrington ('00) as Oregon quarterbacks who've been on the receiving end of scores since '96.

Irving finished with 120 yards rushing and, courtesy of his pass, posted an astounding pass efficiency rating of 581.2. Oregon defensive back Christian Gonzalez tormented his former team with a pair of interceptions. Gonzalez earned Pac-12 All-Conference honorable mention accolades last season for the Buffaloes before transferring. About the only thing that didn't go well for Oregon was Nix's backward, hook-shot-looking pass on fourth down near the end zone. Even that worked out, though, as two plays later Gonzalez intercepted a J.T. Shrout pass. It set up a short Nix run to make it 35-10. There was a scary moment for the Buffaloes (1-8, 1-5) in the fourth quarter when talented freshman receiver Jordyn Tyson went down with an undisclosed injury. He was helped off the field with his left leg trailing. Tyson had five catches for 137 yards, including an 81-yard score. It was a gusty day at Folsom Field, with wrappers and leaves constantly blowing all over the field. On one occasion, the pom-poms from the cheerleaders blew onto the field and players tracked them down. - Oregon/AP College Football

  10/29/22 - Bo NixrSr/2024, Oregon + More +

Bo Nix threw three touchdown passes and ran for three more scores to lead No. 8 Oregon to a 42-24 victory over California on Saturday for its seventh straight win. The Ducks (7-1, 5-0 Pac-12) broke open the game with three TDs in a span of less than seven minutes of game time spanning halftime and rolled to another win. Oregon hasn't lost since a season-opening 46-point loss to Georgia, winning six of the seven games by at least 15 points. The Golden Bears (3-5, 1-4) lost their fourth straight game as their defense could do little to slow down Nix and the Ducks and the offense couldn't keep up. Cal has lost 22 of its last 23 games against teams ranked in the top 10. Nix threw for 412 yards and accounted for six touchdowns combined through the air or on the ground. The Ducks gained 586 yards for the game, the most against the Bears in six seasons under coach Justin Wilcox. Jack Plummer threw for 214 yards and one TD for Cal.

Oregon scored three TDs in the second quarter to take charge of the game. Nix ran it in from the 4 on the opening play of the quarter. He bounced back from an interception near the goal line on the next drive to lead the Ducks to two more TDs in the second quarter, scoring on a 1-yard run and then throwing a 12-yard TD pass to Bucky Irving following Trikweze Bridges' interception of Plummer to make it 21-10. Oregon then took the second-half kickoff and scored another TD when Noah Whittington took a short pass from Nix and turned it into a 29-yard score. That gave Oregon it's third TD in a span of 6:29 on the game clock. Nix added a TD run and touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. - Oregon/AP College Football

Bo Nix threw for 278 yards and five touchdowns and No. 10 Oregon handed No. 9 UCLA its first loss of the season with a 45-30 victory on Saturday. The win extended Oregon's winning streak at Autzen Stadium to 23 games, matching a school record. It is the third-best active home streak in the nation. The Ducks (6-1, 4-0 Pac-12) have won six straight since a season-opening loss to Georgia and are the lone remaining undefeated team in Pac-12 conference play. The loss snapped a nine-game overall winning streak for the Bruins, who have not won in Eugene since 2004. UCLA (6-1, 3-1) hasn't defeated the Ducks since 2017. Nix, a transfer from Auburn, is a mobile threat who has thrown for 17 touchdowns and rushed for eight this season. He completed 21 of 28 passes against the Bruins. His favorite target on Saturday was Troy Franklin, who had eight catches for 132 yards and two scores.

UCLA's Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who was completing nearly 75% of his passes going into the game, threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns. Zach Charbonnet rushed for 136 yards and a score. Oregon slowed UCLA's ground game, allowing 186 rushing yards. The Bruins were ranked second in the Pac-12 with an average of 211.5 yards. In contrast, the Ducks piled up 273 rushing yards. After trading field goals, the Ducks went up 10-3 early in the second quarter on Nix's 17-yard touchdown pass to Terrance Ferguson. UCLA answered with Thompson-Robinson's 36-yard scoring pass to Keegan Jones. Franklin caught a 51-yard scoring pass from Nix to pull the Ducks back in front. Oregon recovered an onside kick and went on to extend its lead with Jordan James' 2-yard touchdown carry. Nicholas Barr-Mira added a 44-yard field goal for the Bruins to close the gap. The Ducks were pushed back by a pair of penalties on the final drive before halftime, but Franklin caught a 2-yard pass from Nix for a 31-13 lead at the break. Nix became the third Oregon quarterback since at least 1996 with multiple games of five or more touchdowns in a season. He joins Justin Herbert (2019) and Marcus Mariota (2014). - Oregon/AP College Football

BIG 12 FOOTBALL NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Dillon Gabriel, OU, QB, Jr.,...Redshirt junior quarterback Gabriel completed 29 of 42 passes (69%) for 403 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed 10 times for 37 yards and a TD in Oklahoma's 52-42 win over No. 19 Kansas. Gabriel's 403 passing yards and 440 total offensive yards were both the second most by a Big 12 player this year and the most in a conference game. He threw for 304 yards in the first half alone, marking OU's first 300-yard passing half in three seasons. Gabriel's performance helped the Sooners amass 701 yards of offense, their most against a Big 12 opponent in four years and the most by a Big 12 team this season (fourth most nationally). - Big 12 Football

Dillon Gabriel passed for 403 yards in his first game back after a concussion, and Oklahoma defeated No. 19 Kansas 52-42 on Saturday to end its three-game losing streak. Gabriel was injured in the second quarter of Oklahoma's loss to TCU on October 1, and the offense had sputtered in nearly seven quarters without him heading into the Kansas game. But a week after the Sooners were held to 195 yards against Texas, Oklahoma (4-3, 1-3 Big 12) exploded for 701 yards. Eric Gray ran for 176 yards, Marvin Mims had a career-high nine catches for 106 yards and Brayden Willis had five catches for a career-best 102 yards for the Sooners, who relieved some of the pressure that had been building for first-year coach Brent Venables.

It was Oklahoma's 18th straight win over Kansas, with all the victories coming by double digits. The Sooners haven't lost to the Jayhawks since 1997. Filling in for the injured Jalon Daniels (shoulder), Jason Bean passed for 265 yards and four touchdowns for Kansas. Lawrence Arnold had 113 yards and two touchdowns receiving and Mason Fairchild had 106 yards and caught two touchdown passes for Kansas. The Jayhawks (5-2, 2-2) lost their second straight and missed out on the chance to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2008. Gabriel completed 21 of 29 passes for 304 yards in the first half to help the Sooners take a 35-21 lead. The Sooners' 487 yards in the first half were the second-most gained in a half in school history, trailing the 507 gained in the first half against Missouri in 1986. Gray had 124 yards rushing in the first half, eclipsing his previous high as a Sooner before the break. The Sooners kept the Jayhawks at bay in the second half, controlling the ball for more than 17 minutes. - Oklahoma/AP College Football

  10/08/22 - Bo NixrSr/2024, Oregon + More +

Bo Nix threw for 265 yards and ran for three touchdowns, Noah Whittington added an early 55-yard touchdown run and No. 12 Oregon rolled to a 49-22 victory over Arizona on Saturday night. The Ducks (5-1, 3-0 Pac-12) scored touchdowns on seven consecutive drives starting midway through the first quarter, building a 49-13 lead by late in the third. Oregon piled up 580 yards of total offense - including 306 yards on the ground - doing pretty much whatever it wanted against Arizona (3-3, 1-2). Nix was a great on the ground for a second straight game, scoring on a pair of 2-yard runs before breaking free for a 25-yard touchdown in the third quarter. He ran for a career-high 141 yards and two touchdowns last week against Stanford.

The Ducks have won five straight since a season-opening loss to Georgia, scoring more than 40 points in every game. They built a 28-13 lead by halftime Saturday. Nix completed 13 of 14 passes for 187 yards as the offense racked up 346 total yards before the break. Arizona managed to stay within striking distance thanks to a 52-yard touchdown run by DJ Williams and a pair of field goals from Tyler Loop, including a 36-yarder as time expired in the second quarter. But the Ducks erased any doubt about the outcome in the third. Oregon opened the second half with an efficient eight-play, 75-yard drive, capped by Nix's second touchdown run for a 35-13 advantage. A few minutes later, Bucky Irving ran for a 22-yard touchdown and a 42-13 lead. Arizona's Jayden de Laura completed 24 of 42 passes for 241 yards, one touchdown and an interception. - Oregon/AP College Football
