  Boston College junior quarterback Anthony Brown will miss the rest of the season with a leg injury. Coach Steve Addazio made the announcement Monday during his weekly news conference. Addazio said Brown will have surgery within the next few days. The injury is not expected to be career-ending. Brown was injured in the second quarter of the Eagles' 41-39 loss to Louisville on Oct. 5. In six games this season, he had 1,250 yards passing, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore Dennis Grosel, who replaced Brown during the Louisville game and threw for three touchdowns, is expected to start when Boston College (3-3) hosts N.C.   A week after Gus Cumberlander was hurt against California, tight end Jacob Breeland was unable to return from a first-half leg injury suffered Friday against the Buffaloes. The injury will sideline Breeland for the remainder of the season, Cristobal said Monday. A senior from Mission Viejo, Calif., Breeland leads all tight ends at the FBS level with six touchdowns, including Oregon's first touchdown Friday, prior to the injury. He was generating significant NFL draft buzz, and has on tape for evaluators a career body of work at Oregon that includes 74 receptions for 1,225 yards and 13 touchdowns. "He's a really good player," Cristobal said. "Nowadays these injuries are very fixable. He'll come back and he'll train and we think he's going to play a long time. - Oregon Football

  Justin Herbert threw for 261 yards and extended his streak of games with a touchdown pass to 34, and the No. 13 Oregon Ducks beat Colorado 45-3 on Friday night for their fifth straight victory. Jaylon Redd rushed for a touchdown and caught a pass for another score for the Ducks (5-1, 3-0) who are 3-0 to open Pac-12 play for the first time since 2013. Cyrus Habibi-Likio ran for three touchdowns and CJ Verdell rushed for 171 yards. Oregon has not dropped a game since the season opener against Auburn.

Steven Montez threw for 131 yards for Colorado (3-3, 1-2) but he was intercepted four times on four consecutive drives. It is the second straight loss for the Buffaloes. Colorado receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. was day-to-day going into the game but he started and finished with four catches for 70 yards. He strained a core muscle against Arizona State on Sept. 21 and missed last weekend's loss to Arizona. Herbert was 18 of 32 with two touchdowns, bringing his total to 17 TDs this season. His string of games with a touchdown pass is the longest nationally among active players. The Ducks scored on their opening drive on Herbert's 7-yard scoring pass to Jacob Breeland.   Justin Herbert threw for 214 yards and a late touchdown to extend his streak of consecutive games with a scoring pass to 33, and No. 13 Oregon overcame an uncharacteristically slow start in a 17-7 victory over California on Saturday night. Oregon (4-1, 1-0 Pac-12) trailed until Cyrus Habibi-Likio's 1-yard touchdown run with 1:38 left in third quarter made it 10-7. Herbert's streak of TDs appeared in jeopardy until his short pass to Jaylon Redd with 7:14 to go in the game. The Ducks, whose only loss came in the opener against Auburn, were held scoreless in the first half by the surprisingly resilient Golden Bears (4-2, 1-2).

Junior Devon Modster made his first start for Cal in place of injured quarterback Chase Garbers. After struggling last week when Garbers got knocked out of Cal's loss to Arizona State, Modster fared better against Oregon's defense. Modster threw for 190 yards and a touchdown against the Ducks, who hadn't given up a TD since the game against the Tigers. Herbert's streak of games with at least one touchdown pass is the longest in the nation among active players. He was tied for seventh nationally with 14 touchdown passes this season going into the game. Herbert threw his first interception of the season on Oregon's opening drive.   No. 22 UCF shrugged off its first regular-season loss in nearly three years with a performance that sent a message to the rest of the American Athletic Conference. The two-time defending league champions are hungry for a third straight title. "Our kids are resilient," Knights coach Josh Heupel said Saturday night, after his team amassed 607 yards total offense and forced four turnovers in a 56-21 rout of Connecticut in an AAC opener that wasn't nearly as close as the final score might suggest. "There were a lot of questions because It had been so long since our program had lost a regular-season football game," Heupel added, "but our guys are competitors."

Dillon Gabriel threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns while UCF (4-1, 1-0) held UConn (1-3, 0-1) scoreless until late in the third quarter. The Knights improved to 29-2 since the start of 2017, bouncing back from a 35-34 loss at Pittsburgh that stopped a league- and school-record 25-game regular-season win streak. "It's been a long time since we lost in the regular season," said running back Adrian Killins, who had a 73-yard TD run. "The locker room after the game, the vibes and everything were off (last week), it wasn't normal...This Saturday we played lights out."   Auburn coach Gus Malzahn was pleased with the performance of Bo Nix in a victory at Texas A&M on Saturday. What made Malzahn even happier is that the freshman quarterback will likely be with him for a long time to come. Nix threw a touchdown pass and JaTarvious Whitlow ran for a score as No. 8 Auburn built a big lead and withstood a late charge from Texas A&M to get a 28-20 win over the 17th-ranked Aggies. "It's going to be a lot of fun to have him around in the future," Malzahn said. "I'll tell you that."

Nix didn't put up flashy numbers against the Aggies, but he looked poised and didn't make any big mistakes in his first true road game in front of a rowdy crowd of 101,681. "He's got something special to him," Malzahn said. "He's not your normal freshman. We knew that when we recruited him. One thing that I like is the moment ain't too big for him." Nix said knowing how strong Auburn's defense was and the preparation and advice he got during the week from the coaching staff helped him on Saturday. "It was kind of easy to stay poised," he said. Fellow freshman Joey Gatewood replaced Nix for a few snaps throughout the game and he threw his first career touchdown pass in the first quarter. The Tigers (4-0, 1-0 SEC) were up 21-3 before A&M (2-2, 0-1) finally got going offensively in the fourth quarter. - Auburn/AP College Football

  The Golden Knights aren't just a one-player wonder either. Quarterback McKenzie Milton is sitting out the season while recovering from a right knee injury and Darriel Mack Jr. missed all of training camp with a broken ankle. Yet UCF has kept right on rolling, perhaps landing Milton's eventual long-term successor in true freshman Dillon Gabriel. Gabriel, like Milton, is a Hawaii native. He's thrown for nine touchdowns without an interception across three games and will likely get the start over Notre Dame transfer Brandon Wimbush. Heupel has declined to name a starter, but Gabriel's performance has likely forced his hand. "He was a great quarterback Day 1 since he came in," wide receiver Gabe Davis said.
