  Boston College fired coach Steve Addazio after seven seasons in which the Eagles never surpassed seven wins. Wide receivers coach Rich Gunnell will serve as interim coach, athletic director Martin Jarmond said in a statement on Sunday afternoon, a day after BC beat Pittsburgh to achieve bowl eligibility for the sixth time in seven years under Addazio. "He inherited a program that had a down stretch and led us to six bowl games while recruiting high-character student-athletes that represented BC the right way," Jarmond said. "Our student-athletes have been pillars of the community and in the classroom and that's a credit to Steve and his staff."

Addazio was 44-44 since taking over in 2013, earning a bowl-qualifying sixth win with the 26-19 victory over Pittsburgh. The 60-year-old coach spent much of his postgame news conference talking about the program's future, insisting, "It's not about me." "All I cared about was getting this team to six wins and getting another month with them. And then watching what I watched," he said after celebrating with his players in the locker room. "That was the greatest gift that I got. You want to talk about me? That was a great gift." Addazio lamented the loss of quarterback Anthony Brown and linebackers John Lamont and Isaiah McDuffie, and spoke -- in a familiar theme for him over the years -- about the program's youth.   Justin Herbert threw for 174 yards and a touchdown in his final game at Autzen Stadium and No. 14 Oregon held off Oregon State 24-10 on Saturday in the 123rd Civil War rivalry game. Oregon (10-2, 8-1 Pac-12) wrapped up the regular season with a perfect record at home for the eighth time. The Ducks reached 10 wins overall for the first time since 2014. Oregon State (5-7, 4-5) was denied a bid for bowl eligibility in coach Jonathan Smith's second year. The Beavers haven't made a postseason appearance since 2013. Trailing 17-3 at the start of the fourth quarter, Oregon State closed the gap on Jermar Jefferson's 19-yard touchdown run with 11:03 left.

Herbert appeared to hit Jaylon Redd with an 8-yard touchdown pass but a review determined Redd fumbled before scoring, giving the ball to the Beavers. Oregon State's drive fizzled on a fourth-and-5 attempt, turning the ball over on downs to set up Cyrus Habibi-Likio's 20-yard touchdown run with 1:15 left. Oregon was cruising toward a possible bid in the College Football Playoff last weekend when it was upended 31-28 at Arizona State. The loss dropped the Ducks from No. 6 in the rankings. Oregon was already assured of a spot in the Pac-12 championship game Friday in Santa Clara, California.   Dillon Gabriel threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns, Adrian Killins rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown, and UCF concluded its regular season with a 34-7 win over South Florida in the War on I-4 on Friday night. The Knights (9-3, 6-2) were never seriously tested, as they built a 24-0 lead by halftime with a 35-yard touchdown run from Killins and a 32-yard scoring reception from Gabriel Davis. They erased any lingering doubt as to the outcome when they drove 82 yards for another touchdown immediately after USF finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter. UCF gained 495 yards to the Bulls' 181 through the first three quarters. The disparity narrowed to 539-250 after a fourth quarter in which the final margin was all that was left to be determined. The Bulls committed three turnovers, while the hosts committed none. For USF (4-8, 2-6), Jordan McCloud completed 9 of 21 passes for 116 yards and two interceptions.   2019 OUTLAND TROPHY FINALIST: Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon (6-6, 325, So., Malaeimi, American Samoa/St. George, Utah): Sewell is regarded as the top offensive lineman in the Pac-12 and one of the two best offensive tackles in the country. In short, he's the best lineman on the nation's best offensive line – an Oregon lineman has taken seven of the Pac-12's 11 Offensive Lineman of the Week awards, and Sewell has three of those seven. Head coach Mario Christobal says he's the best lineman he's ever coached. Sewell was the Outland Trophy Offensive Player of the Month for September and leads Oregon with 45 knockdowns blocking for an Oregon offense that is 21st nationally at 460.2 yards per game. He has five or more knockdowns in five of 11 games. Run-blocking is his specialty but he has yielded only six QB pressures this season and one sack. - FWAA

  Justin Herbert threw for 333 yards and four touchdowns and No. 6 Oregon won its ninth straight game and secured a spot in the Pac-12 championship game with a 34-6 victory over Arizona on Saturday night. Graduate transfer Juwan Johnson caught five passes for 93 yards and a score for the Ducks (9-1, 7-0 Pac-12). Oregon hasn't won seven straight in conference play to start a season since 2012, and no Pac-12 team has started 7-0 in league play since Stanford in 2015. The Ducks, ranked sixth in both the College Football Playoff rankings and the AP Top 25, haven't dropped a game since the season-opening loss to Auburn.

With the victory, Oregon secured the Pac-12 North title and the berth in the conference championship game on Dec. 6 in Santa Clara, California. The Ducks' opponent from the league's South Division has yet to be determined. The loss slimmed Arizona's chances of bowl eligibility. At 4-6 overall and 2-5 in conference, the Wildcats face No. 8 Utah (No. 7 CFP rankings) next Saturday before closing out the season at rival Arizona State. J.J.   Over the next three weeks, Auburn will be in the middle of the action even though the Tigers are outside the playoff race. No. 13 Auburn plays two top-five playoff contenders in No. 5 Georgia (No. 4 CFP) and No. 4 Alabama (No. 5 CFP) at home in November, and depending upon how the Tigers do their coach may or may not be in danger of losing his job. If the ground on the Plains is shaky for Gus Malzahn, he could become the most accomplished coach in a job market that already includes vacancies at a recent national championship program (Florida State) and the Southeastern Conference school (Arkansas) in his home state.

First chance for the Tigers to play spoiler comes Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium against Georgia in the Deep South's oldest rivalry. Meeting No. 116 will feature two tough defenses and a seasoned veteran quarterback in Georgia's Jake Fromm facing a freshman quarterback in Auburn's Bo Nix, who has had a bumpy ride this year. Auburn-Georgia is one of a season-high five games matching ranked teams on the schedule. The other one with major playoff implications is in the Big 12, where No. 12 Baylor tries to stay unbeaten against No. 10 Oklahoma. - AP College Football

  Probably the best example of Justin Herbert's influence over No. 7 Oregon came after the Ducks fell behind to USC last weekend. The team gathered midway through the first half and collectively decided there was no reason to panic. Herbert led the effort by example, as he has time and again in his senior season. He is one cool customer. "We knew that we're a special group and we just needed to calm down and look at each other and say, `This is not us. We'll do better" he said.

And they did. The Ducks trailed 10-0 after the first quarter but went on to beat the Trojans 56-24 on Saturday. Herbert threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score. Each of his touchdown passes came in the second half, and at one point he completed 14 straight passes, making 20 of his last 21 in the game. He now has 87 scoring passes over the course of his Oregon career to rank ninth on the Pac-12's all-time list. He ranks second in the Pac-12 this season with an average of 258.8 passing yards and 24 touchdowns, second only to Anthony Gordon of Washington State in both categories. Over the course of Herbert's career, the Ducks are averaging 38.2 points when he starts. Oregon is 23-7 in the last three seasons with him at QB. - AP College Football
