  2019 OUTLAND TROPHY FINALIST: Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon (6-6, 325, So., Malaeimi, American Samoa/St. George, Utah): Sewell is regarded as the top offensive lineman in the Pac-12 and one of the two best offensive tackles in the country. In short, he's the best lineman on the nation's best offensive line – an Oregon lineman has taken seven of the Pac-12's 11 Offensive Lineman of the Week awards, and Sewell has three of those seven. Head coach Mario Christobal says he's the best lineman he's ever coached. Sewell was the Outland Trophy Offensive Player of the Month for September and leads Oregon with 45 knockdowns blocking for an Oregon offense that is 21st nationally at 460.2 yards per game. He has five or more knockdowns in five of 11 games. Run-blocking is his specialty but he has yielded only six QB pressures this season and one sack. - FWAA

  Justin Herbert threw for 333 yards and four touchdowns and No. 6 Oregon won its ninth straight game and secured a spot in the Pac-12 championship game with a 34-6 victory over Arizona on Saturday night. Graduate transfer Juwan Johnson caught five passes for 93 yards and a score for the Ducks (9-1, 7-0 Pac-12). Oregon hasn't won seven straight in conference play to start a season since 2012, and no Pac-12 team has started 7-0 in league play since Stanford in 2015. The Ducks, ranked sixth in both the College Football Playoff rankings and the AP Top 25, haven't dropped a game since the season-opening loss to Auburn.

With the victory, Oregon secured the Pac-12 North title and the berth in the conference championship game on Dec. 6 in Santa Clara, California. The Ducks' opponent from the league's South Division has yet to be determined. The loss slimmed Arizona's chances of bowl eligibility. At 4-6 overall and 2-5 in conference, the Wildcats face No. 8 Utah (No. 7 CFP rankings) next Saturday before closing out the season at rival Arizona State. J.J. Taylor had 17 carries for 74 yards and caught six passes for 55 yards for the Wildcats. Both teams were coming off byes. - Oregon/AP College Football

  Over the next three weeks, Auburn will be in the middle of the action even though the Tigers are outside the playoff race. No. 13 Auburn plays two top-five playoff contenders in No. 5 Georgia (No. 4 CFP) and No. 4 Alabama (No. 5 CFP) at home in November, and depending upon how the Tigers do their coach may or may not be in danger of losing his job. If the ground on the Plains is shaky for Gus Malzahn, he could become the most accomplished coach in a job market that already includes vacancies at a recent national championship program (Florida State) and the Southeastern Conference school (Arkansas) in his home state.

First chance for the Tigers to play spoiler comes Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium against Georgia in the Deep South's oldest rivalry. Meeting No. 116 will feature two tough defenses and a seasoned veteran quarterback in Georgia's Jake Fromm facing a freshman quarterback in Auburn's Bo Nix, who has had a bumpy ride this year. Auburn-Georgia is one of a season-high five games matching ranked teams on the schedule. The other one with major playoff implications is in the Big 12, where No. 12 Baylor tries to stay unbeaten against No. 10 Oklahoma. - AP College Football

  Probably the best example of Justin Herbert's influence over No. 7 Oregon came after the Ducks fell behind to USC last weekend. The team gathered midway through the first half and collectively decided there was no reason to panic. Herbert led the effort by example, as he has time and again in his senior season. He is one cool customer. "We knew that we're a special group and we just needed to calm down and look at each other and say, `This is not us. We'll do better" he said.

And they did. The Ducks trailed 10-0 after the first quarter but went on to beat the Trojans 56-24 on Saturday. Herbert threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score. Each of his touchdown passes came in the second half, and at one point he completed 14 straight passes, making 20 of his last 21 in the game. He now has 87 scoring passes over the course of his Oregon career to rank ninth on the Pac-12's all-time list. He ranks second in the Pac-12 this season with an average of 258.8 passing yards and 24 touchdowns, second only to Anthony Gordon of Washington State in both categories. Over the course of Herbert's career, the Ducks are averaging 38.2 points when he starts. Oregon is 23-7 in the last three seasons with him at QB. - AP College Football

  Oregon's defense began the game by giving up a 16-play touchdown drive. Justin Herbert then threw only his second interception since last November. The Ducks had barely survived back-to-back close games in the previous two weeks, and their winning streak appeared to be in peril again when they fell 10 points behind Southern California after the first quarter. A calming little chat on the Coliseum sideline kept Oregon firmly on track in the College Football Playoff race with another blowout win. Herbert passed for 225 yards and threw three touchdown passes to Juwan Johnson in the second half, and No. 7 Oregon recovered from a slow start to cruise to its eighth consecutive victory, 56-24 over USC on Saturday night.

Oregon (8-1, 6-0 Pac-12) obliterated that early deficit by scoring a touchdown after each of four turnovers by USC freshman quarterback Kedon Slovis during a 19-minute stretch spanning halftime. Freshman Mykael Wright also returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown shortly after Brady Breeze returned an interception 32 yards for a score late in the second quarter. But the Ducks looked shaky in the opening quarter until they settled down and got to work. "We just looked at each other," Herbert said. "We knew that we're a special group, and we just needed to calm down and say, `This isn't us. We're going to do better.' And we addressed that and got to move the ball pretty well. We knew we were better than that. We just had to fix things." Herbert and receiver Jaylon Redd rushed for touchdowns in the first half for Oregon, which remained on track for the Pac-12 North title and a good shot at a playoff spot. - Oregon/AP College Football

  Auburn piled up yards, if not points, and the defense didn't permit many of either. Bo Nix passed for a career-high 340 yards and had a 1-yard touchdown run and the 11th-ranked Tigers withstood Mississippi's final drive to escape with a 20-14 victory Saturday night. Auburn (7-2, 4-2 Southeastern Conference) mostly dominated on the stat sheet but struggled to put the 19-point underdogs away after repeated stalled drives and three missed field goals. Anders Carlson's third miss, a 49-yarder with 1:14 to play, gave Ole Miss (3-6, 2-4) a shot at a winning drive. A defense that has kept Auburn in every game made one final stop. "When the game was on the line, I'm real proud of the offense flipping the field and real proud of the defense ending the game the way it did," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said.

The Tigers endured some harrowing moments along the way. The Rebels, who had no timeouts left, quickly moved from their 31 into Auburn territory. Plumlee hit Braylon Sanders for a 17-yard pass after a holding call negated a big gain and then ran 20 yards. Finally on fourth-and-3 from the 35, Plumlee scrambled around and made a desperation heave under pressure. Christian Tutt intercepted the ball and raced most of the way to the other end zone. And Auburn, which was coming off a 23-20 loss at No. 1 LSU, managed to survive. Nix completed 30 of 44 passes, including a 78-yarder to Harold Joiner that set up Auburn's first touchdown.   Dillon Gabriel passed for 298 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Tre Nixon, and ran for a score as Central Florida dominated the second half and beat Houston 44-29 on Saturday. Houston jumped out to a 10-0 lead on Mulbah Car's 37-yard TD run and a 45-yard field goal by Dalton Witherspoon. Gabriel hit Marlon Williams for a 6-yard score and, after Car scored on a 2-yard run, added a 32-yard scoring strike to Nixon to pull UCF (7-2, 4-1 American Athletic Conference) with 17-14 after one quarter. Gabriel scored on a 22-yard run midway through the second quarter to put the Knights up 21-17, but Witherspoon kicked two field goals in the final 4 minutes and Houston (3-6, 1-4) took a 23-21 lead into halftime. UCF put the game out of reach with three third-quarter touchdowns. Bentavious Thompson scored on a 43-yard run, Gabriel and Nixon hooked up for a 34-yard score and Thompson added a 2-yard TD run for a 42-23 lead heading into the final quarter. Gabriel hit 21 of 30 passes without an interception for the Knights. Nixon had six receptions for 123 yards. Clayton Tune completed 18 of 30 passes for 179 yards with one TD and one interception for the Cougars. Mar carried 26 times for 132 yards and two scores. - Central Florida/AP College Football

  Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert and Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship were among the 12 finalists selected for the Campbell Trophy, given to the top scholar-athlete in college football. The finalists are selected from all levels college football by the National Football Foundation. The other finalists are: Eastern Washington's Spencer Blackburn; Ohio State's Jordan Fuller; Minnesota State's Alex Goettl; Kansas State's Adam Holtorf; Carnegie Mellon's Michael Lohmeier; Virginia's Jordan Mack; Montana's Dante Olson; Cornell's Jelani Taylor; Stanford's Casey Toohill; and Western Michigan's Jon Wassink. The finalists receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and the winner receives an additional $7,000 in scholarship money and the trophy named after former Columbia player and coach William V. Campbell. The winner will be announced Dec. 10 at the NFF's Hall of Fame induction in New York. - AP College Football
