  OCT 7 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: DE Derrek Tuszka, North Dakota State,...Tuszka made five tackles, all solo stops, including two sacks and one forced fumble in North Dakota State's 37-3 win over sixth-ranked Illinois State. Tuszka was part of a defensive effort that totaled four sacks, five quarterback hurries and three fumbles in holding the Redbirds without a touchdown for the first time since October 2016. NDSU limited Illinois State to 2.5 yards per carry and just 79 net rushing yards. The Bison have not allowed a touchdown in seven consecutive quarters.   Following yet another North Dakota State win over a ranked opponent, the Bison received all 26 first-place votes and remain the No. 1 team in the nation. The rest of the top 5 remains unchanged following wins by South Dakota State, Kennesaw State, and Weber State. Week 7 will feature a trio of Top 25 matchups, two of which featuring Top 10 teams. The biggest matchup comes from the Colonial Athletic Association when No. 2 James Madison plays host to No. 7 Villanova. No. 1 North Dakota State will face their second straight Top 10 opponent as they host No. 10 Northern Iowa.   Trey Lance threw three touchdown passes and defending FCS champion North Dakota State defeated Illinois State 37-3 on Saturday. The Bison ran their win streak to 26 games, the second-longest in FCS history, matching one by James Madison (2016-17). The Bison won 33 straight from 2012-14. Lance was a tidy 12-of-15 passing for 189 yards and scoring throws to Christian Watson, Ben Ellefson and Noah Gindorff for the top-ranked Bison (5-0), who won their Missouri Valley Football Conference opener by beating the Redbirds (3-2), sixth in the coaches poll, for the eighth straight time. Ty Brooks rushed for 106 yards on nine carries, including a 53-yard score.

NDSU put up three touchdowns and a field goal in its first four possessions and led 23-3 at halftime. The Bison outgained the Redbirds 482-200 in total yards and gave up just 79 on the ground. Illinois State almost had a touchdown at the end of the third quarter when Brady Davis threw to Kacper Rutkiewicz for a 64-yard gain to the 1-yard line but the Bison stuffed two runs, a penalty cost the Redbirds 5 yards and then NDSU broke up two passes.   SEPT 23/WEEK 4 MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: QB Trey Lance, North Dakota State,...Lance passed for 156 yards and rushed for 48 yards and two touchdowns in North Dakota State's 27-16 win over No. 4 UC Davis. Lance completed 13 of 23 passes and had a team-high 13 carries. He scored on a 1-yard run to put NDSU ahead 14-10 in the second quarter and put the game out of reach with a 10-yard TD run in late in the fourth quarter. Tutsie's interception at the goal line preserved a 20-16 lead with 6:44 to play. He made 10 tackles, his second straight game in double-digits for the Bison defense, which allowed just one touchdown and limited UC Davis to three field goals.   In what can only be described as a rollercoaster game featuring six ties and six lead changes in regulation, then-No. 18 Villanova outlasted then-No. 5 Towson and came away with a 52-45 over-time victory. A game-tying field goal with 10 seconds left in regulation gave Villanova the momentum going into overtime, scoring what would become the game winning touchdown in their first possession. The Wildcats jumped five spots to No. 13 in this week's AFCA FCS Coaches' Top 25 Poll. North Dakota State received all 26 first-place votes and remained the No. 1 team in the nation following their win against then-No. 4 UC Davis, 27-16. James Madison and South Dakota State remained No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, with Kennesaw State making its first appearance in the Top 5 this season at No. 4 and UC Davis dropping one spot to No. 5. - AFCA

  Trey Lance rushed for a pair of touchdowns and two fourth-quarter interceptions boosted FCS top-ranked North Dakota State to a 27-16 victory over fourth-ranked UC Davis on Saturday, extending the Bison's win streak to 25 games. Michael Tutsie intercepted Jake Maier at the Bison 2 on a third-and goal with 6:44 remaining. UC Davis (3-3) got the ball back about three minutes later but Maier's pass was deflected by lineman Derrek Tuszka into the hands of teammate Cole Karcz to put the Bison at the Aggies 18. Three plays later, Lance ran over a defender to score on a 9-yard keeper.

Lance gave the Bison (4-0) the lead for good midway at 14-10 through the second quarter on a 1-yard run. A 50-yard punt return by Trevor Heit helped set up a 2-yard run by Adam Cofield and Griffin Crosa kicked two field goals. Ty Brooks rushed for 104 yards on 11 carries. Maier was 29 of 48 for 312 yards passing and a touchdown to Wes Preece and moved up to No. 2 on the school's career passing yards and attempts list but was intercepted three times. Jared Harrell caught 12 passes for 102 yards with the Aggies outgaining the Bison 422-354 in total yards.
