  SEPT 5 CAA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Josiah Silver, So., DL, New Hampshire (Hampton, Va./Phoebus),...Silver recorded a key blocked punt, which was returned 35 yards for a touchdown by Charles Briscoe III, to help spur New Hampshire to a 31-21 win over Monmouth last Thursday. The second-quarter block was the first of his career and put the Wildcats ahead, 14-7.   Randall Harris intercepted a pair of passes and his 25-yard pick-6 with 4:07 left sent New Hampshire past Monmouth 31-21 in a Colonial Athletic Association season opener Thursday night. The Wildcats' defense intercepted Monmouth quarterback Tony Muskett three times. Muskett threw a 19-yard score to Alex Bryant with 9:25 left in the third quarter for a 21-17 Hawks lead. In the fourth, New Hampshire seized control with a five-play, 72-yard drive that ended when Dylan Laube scored on a 7-yard run with 6:20 to go. Harris' interception and scored occurred on Monmouth's ensuing drive to seal it.

Max Brosmer threw for 272 yards for the Wildcats with 121 yards goings to receiver Kyle Lepkowski. Muskett finished with 281 yards passing. New Hampshire coach Rick Santos succeeds Sean McDonnell, who retired last December following 23 years at the helm. A Wildcat alum, Santos was a record-setting Wildcat quarterback from 2004-07 and was inducted into the UNH Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016. He served as interim coach in 2019. He finished with 47 total tackles (30 solo, 17 assisted), three forced fumbles, two interceptions and five pass breakups, which tied for second on the team. Bush's season highlights included 10 tackles, including a sack, as well as two forced fumbles, a 65-yard interception return and two pass breakups at Stony Brook University.   2021 CAA FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Josiah Silver, New Hampshire,...Silver led the CAA and ranked sixth in the FCS with 20.5 tackles for loss this season and also topped the conference and was sixth in the FCS with 12.5 sacks. The Wildcats' defensive end recorded a team-best 80 total tackles and forced six fumbles, which tied for second nationally.   Bret Edwards threw a pair of touchdowns to Brian Espanet and New Hampshire overtook Lafayette in the second half for a 19-13 win on Saturday and remain undefeated. Dylan Laube found the edge and raced down the right sideline for a 50-yard touchdown to expand the Wildcats' lead to 19-10 on the second play of the final quarter. Micah Pettit kicked a 41-yard field goal to cut Lafayette's deficit to 19-13 with under two minutes remaining but the Leopards failed to recover an onside kick. Lafayette's Michael Haynes took the opening kickoff and returned it down the right sideline 93 yards for a touchdown.

Edwards threw a 3-yard TD pass to Espanet in the second quarter but the PAT failed and Lafayette led at the half 7-6. Edwards scrambled toward the right sideline before finding Espanet at the goal line and a 14-yard score to take the lead at 12-7 in the third quarter after a two-point try failed. Edwards was 22 of 37 for 249 passing including his two touchdowns to Espanet, who made six catches for 57 yards. Laube added six catches for 64 yards and 10 carries for 79 yards for New Hampshire (3-0), which came in ranked No. 23 in FBS polls.   Bret Edwards threw two touchdown passes to lead New Hampshire to a 26-14 victory over Towson on Saturday night. Edwards was 24-of-32 passing for 261 yards. He tossed a 54-yard touchdown pass to Sean Coyne late in the second quarter to give New Hampshire (2-0, 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association) a 20-7 halftime lead. Edwards' 2-yard TD throw to Dylan Laube capped the scoring with 10:00 minutes left. Evan Horn had two of the Wildcats' four interceptions. New Hampshire coach Sean McDonnell collected his 100th win with the Wildcats. Makai Self ran for a 2-yard touchdown, ending a 15-play, 74-yard drive that pulled Towson (1-1, 0-1) to 13-7 in the second quarter. The senior safety recorded a team-high 10 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss (-17 yds.), one sack, two forced fumbles, two pass breakups and an interception, which he returned 65 yards.
