  07/20/19 - Mohamed BarryrSr/2020, Nebraska, 6-0, 231 (DS#31 ILB) + More +

2019 PRESEASON LOTT IMPACT TROPHY WATCH LIST: MOHAMED BARRY, Nebraska, LB,...Barry, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound linebacker, returns to anchor the Huskers’ defense after an outstanding junior campaign. The Grayson, Ga., native led the Huskers and ranked second in the Big Ten with 112 tackles, including 55 solo tackles, and added 11 tackles for loss and two sacks from his inside linebacker position. His 112 tackles were the most by a Husker since NFL All-Pro Lavonte David totaled 133 stops in 2011.

Barry, an All-Big Ten selection by both the coaches and media, led NU in tackles in nine of 12 games, including seven double-figure efforts. He posted a career-high 12 tackles against Colorado and had 11 stops six other times as a junior. For his efforts, he was chosen by the Husker coaching staff as the team’s defensive MVP last season. - Nebraska Football

  07/15/19 - Deontai WilliamsrSr/2022, Nebraska, 5-11, 203 (DS#19 FS) + More +

Nebraska secondary coach Travis Fisher said during the spring that Williams realistically could've been a starter last season. For one thing, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Williams was "probably the most athletic safety I had last year." But there was at least one significant challenge that helps explain why Williams started only one game: He had to master the playbook. A mid-year enrollee in January 2018, Williams grasped enough to be on the field at times - he finished with 23 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles - but often freelanced too much, according to his coaches.

"He's always played with speed and violence," defensive coordinator Erik Chinander said in the spring. "The difference for him right now is he really understands what we want to get done. It's not just renegade football. It's not intramural football anymore. It's running stuff within the scheme of the defense, playing within the scheme of the defense, but still playing with that same violence and intensity that he had when he kind of didn't know what he was doing." - Lincoln Journal Star

  07/14/19 - Marquel DismukerSr/2022, Nebraska, 6-0, 196 (DS#101 SS) + More +

Nebraska football players Marquel Dismuke and Jeremiah Stovall were cited by Lincoln Police on Friday evening after a traffic stop. Dismuke was pulled over just before 8 p.m. because he had no front license plate on his car, according to LPD officer Angela Sands. Dismuke was cited for driving with a suspended license. Dismuke had a prior conviction for driving with a suspended license. After an officer smelled a marijuana odor coming from the car, police found Stovall, a passenger in the car, in possession of a small amount of marijuana. Dismuke, a junior from Calabasas, California, is in the running for a starting job in the Nebraska secondary this fall after spending most of his career to date as a back-up and a special teams regular. - Lincoln Journal Star
