  09/04/22 - Cam WardrSr/2025, Miami, 6-2, 219 (DS#1 QB) + More +

Transfer quarterback Cameron Ward threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns Saturday as Washington State beat scrappy Idaho 24-17 in a season opener to win its 10th consecutive game in a long-running series between two schools whose campuses are located just eight miles apart. Ward completed 25 of 40 passes for Washington State, a Pac-12 team which leads the Battle of the Palouse series 72-17-3. But the Cougars had trouble putting away Idaho, an FCS team from the Big Sky Conference.

It was not until Ward threw a touchdown pass to Jaylen Jenkins with 10:33 left in the fourth quarter, putting Washington State up 24-10, that the Cougars appeared to take control. But Idaho freshman quarterback Gevani McCoy replied with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Dwyer with 6:05 left in the game, cutting the WSU lead to 24-17. Washington State's ensuing drive ate up the clock, but Dean Janikowski missed a 23-yard field-goal attempt wide left with 53 seconds left. McCoy led Idaho down the field, but was intercepted at the goal line by Daiyan Henley to end the threat. - Washington State/AP College Football

  08/28/22 - Jacob LichtensteinrSr/2024, Miami, 6-5, 270 (DS#999 DE) + More +

The transfer portal has been kind to Miami Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal and defensive line coaches Joe Salave'a and Rod Wright. Cristobal and his staff quickly bolstered the strength of their defensive line thanks to key transfers who will quickly play large roles in the rotation. The combination of newcomers and returnees should make UM's defensive line a formidable unit. "I could definitely say that I've never played on a D-line so deep before," Southern California transfer Jake Lichtenstein said. "It's so much competition and we're all really progressing and pushing each other to get better. It's a lot of fun when you have that many guys that can get the job done."

Lichtenstein is one of five defensive linemen who transferred to Miami this offseason, joining Mitchell Agude, Darrell Jackson, Akheem Mesidor and Antonio Moultrie. Lichtenstein, Jackson and Moultrie are primarily interior defensive linemen, while Agude and Mesidor will line up on the edge. A benefit for the Hurricanes will be the experience all of the linemen have. Agude (who transferred from UCLA), Lichtenstein (USC) and Moultrie (Alabama-Birmingham) are all sixth-year redshirt seniors. Mesidor is a third-year sophomore who received plenty of playing time at West Virginia, and Jackson played in 13 games for Maryland last season. "It's not like a bunch of dudes who never played came and transferred here," Lichtenstein said. "We all have experience." - Sun Sentinel

  08/21/22 - Xavier RestreporSr/2025, Miami, 5-10, 202 (DS#29 WR) + More +

No doubt that slot receiver Xavier Restrepo has been the best wide receiver thus far, Cristobal said. "He's been unquestionably the most productive wide receiver in camp," the coach said. "It's his approach to practice. "You watch. You guys are out there early. It's not hard to find, right? There were about 10 pro scouts out there today, and right away that's what they're saying. It's like, 'Whoa! What about that guy? Look at that guy's motor. Look at his engine." "That's the goal of every team, right? You want guys that operate that way. And then when time is up, that put in the extra time; that get in here earlier. He's that kind of guy. We need that more." - Miami Herald

  08/12/22 - Keionte ScottrSr/2026, Miami, 5-11, 195 (DS#23 CB) + More +

It's been less than a week, but Keionte Scott appears settled into the Auburn secondary. Scott didn't get to practice with Auburn in the spring. He didn't even get to work out with the team in summer. Instead, he arrived on campus on Aug. 3 - a day before Auburn's fall camp started. But according to those around the program, the junior college product is already standing out. After the first day of camp, cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett said Scott grabbed an interception in his first practice.

Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin said Tuesday that Scott has "shown up and made an immediate impact." And safety Donovan Kaufman said his new teammate "makes plays every day." "He's a baller," Kaufman said Tuesday. "You can tell that he came in with the intention of 'I'm about to play. I'll make sure that I'll play.' I love it. I love his game. And then he wants to learn. He'll come ask 'What do I need to do with this? How do I do this?' Knowing that somebody wants to get better, it makes it easier for you to try to help them." Scott came to Auburn after two seasons at Snow College in Utah, a prominent JUCO program in which the defensive back made his presence felt during a 2021 season that saw his squad finish the year with a loss to Hutchinson Community College in NJCAA Championship in Little Rock, Arkansas. - Opelika-Auburn News

  08/12/22 - Daryl Porter Jr.rSr/2025, Miami, 5-11, 184 (DS#74 CB) + More +

Many of the Hurricanes' new transfer arrivals came to Coral Gables from across the country, but for cornerback Daryl Porter Jr., joining the Hurricanes was a homecoming. Porter, who arrived at Miami after leaving West Virginia, is a South Florida native whose two-year stint with the Mountaineers eventually led him back to South Florida. "Happy to be home," Porter said. "Family's here. Everybody's here. Home-cooked meals. I'm just happy...It was a combination of everything. I haven't seen family in probably two years, so I feel like this is a big step for me to come back home." Before starting his college career, Porter was a standout cornerback for American Heritage, earning a three-star rating in 247Sports' composite rankings. He was a Sun Sentinel All-County first-team pick as a high-school senior.

Leaving South Florida and heading to Morgantown, West Virginia, was a new experience for Porter and one he needed to adjust to. "It's very different," Porter said. "Not really much up there. It gets very cold. But I'm just happy to be down, back in South Florida." In addition to the Hurricanes' coaching staff, Porter has another mentor he can rely on nearby: his father, Daryl Porter Sr., who played five seasons in the NFL as a defensive back. "I feel like it helps me out a lot," Porter said. "Anything I ever need, I can ask him. If someone's ever teaching me anything wrong, I make sure I double-check with him because he made it to the highest level." - Sun Sentinel

  08/12/22 - Justice OluwaseunrSr/2023, Miami, 6-3, 336 (DS#92 OG) + More +

On Sunday, Miami's players were introduced to their renovated locker room, named after UM alum, former wrestler and movie star Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson. The locker room features leather seats, custom nameplates that include pictures and hometowns and more. "Compared to the locker room we had last, compared to that, it's completely different," linebacker Corey Flagg Jr. said. "I could spend the night in that thing. It's a completely different locker room." The new locker room drew a rave review from offensive lineman Justice Oluwaseun on Tuesday. "[The lockers are] all pretty big," Oluwaseun said. "We all have enough size for everything. It looks nice. It feels good being in there."

Oluwusean said the chairs in the locker room recline, and there is ventilation in the lockers. He added that putting players' hometowns on their lockers was a nice touch, as well. "It has your state on it, too," he said, "so it reminds you where you came from and who you're doing it for and stuff like that." Upgrading the football team's locker room is part of an ongoing review and upgrading of the Hurricanes' facilities under athletic director Dan Radakovich. "It's a blessing to have," Oluwaseun said. "Coach [Mario] Cristobal emphasized trying to get us a new locker room and stuff like that. We had the other one for a really long time. It's state of the art, you can say." - Sun Sentinel

  08/11/22 - Akheem MesidorrSr/2026, Miami, 6-2, 265 (DS#16 DT) + More +

Akheem Mesidor is part of a massive wave of incoming transfers along the Miami Hurricanes' defensive line, but the 6-3, 280-pound sophomore doesn't want to just get lost in the shuffle. He arrived later than some of these transfers - he didn't enroll at Miami until May - and, coupled with offseason shoulder surgery, it means Mesidor knows he has to make up ground in training camp, and he's trying to do anything he can to catch up. So far, fall camp has consisted of four different install sessions and Mesidor has paired every one with some outside study.

With every session, Mesidor has met up with Rod Wright to watch film, and pick the defensive ends coach's brain for an hour or hour and a half. "I've been getting with Coach Wright every time we have an install, just getting extra work in, so I can know the insides and outs," said Mesidor, who's originally from Ottawa and went to high school at Clearwater Academy International. "The biggest thing I need in order to play is the coaches' trust. That's what I'm trying to gain right now." It's the sort of off-the-field work the Hurricanes were counting on from Mesidor, after they lured him away from West Virginia in April. At this point, the defensive lineman's talent isn't a question - he totaled 9 1/2 sacks in his two seasons at West Virginia and was the top-ranked transfer in Miami's class, according to 247Sports' ratings - and it means there's an opportunity for him to play a major role right away, as long as he can quickly pick up the defense. - Miami Herald

  08/11/22 - Cam WardrSr/2025, Miami, 6-2, 219 (DS#1 QB) + More +

Four Washington State quarterbacks combined to complete approximately 23 of 43 passes in the full-team period. Those same signalcallers went an estimated 21 of 27 during 7-on-7 segments of practice. As should be expected, the offense operated at its most efficient rate when it was piloted by starting QB Cameron Ward, the sophomore transfer with intriguing potential. Ward passed approximately 16 of 24 in the two offense/defense periods. One of his better moments of the day came on a designed rollout pass in 11-on-11 drills. Ward slid right with five or six unhurried steps and didn't appear to exert himself when he flicked a 20-yard strike, precisely on target, to senior Renard Bell for a sideline completion. - The Spokesman-Review

  08/10/22 - Tyler HarrellrSr/2024, Miami, 6-0, 193 (DS#55 WR) + More +

One of the great mysteries of the 2022 Alabama football puzzle comes at the receiver position. With so much of last season's production in the NFL, there will clearly be new faces on the business end of Bryce Young's passes this fall. How that looks come September is the question though early reviews are in after a few days of practice in Tuscaloosa. And Nick Saban was candid in discussing the two high-profile transfers who arrived since the season ended in January. Former Georgia receiver Jermaine Burton "has played with the most consistency" at his position while noting he was there for spring practice as well.

Former Louisville speedster Tyler Harrell is a newer arrival. "Tyler has been sort of in and out a little bit to this point," Saban said Sunday morning. "He has been able to practice on a daily basis but not 100%. I do think that he has shown that he has a lot of ability. We just need to get it channeled in the right direction so that we can use him in a way that's going to be most productive for him and for us." Of course, this is one perspective and Harrell isn't available to comment as a transfer who has yet to appear in a game. Saban often uses that wording when challenging an experienced player. And Saban's also made it clear he doesn't pursue transfers unless he sees a role with considerable playing time with Jameson Williams as the best recent example. - Birmingham News

  08/09/22 - Cleveland Reed JrrSr/2023, Miami, 6-2, 320 (DS#999 OG) + More +

Linebacker Sam Brooks Jr. and offensive lineman Cleveland Reed Jr. are no longer with the Hurricanes, a UM spokesperson said Friday. Both players were left off the roster at the start of fall camp, which began Friday. Reed, a fifth-year lineman, played in 15 games for the Hurricanes. Last season, he appeared in five games. He played 43 snaps last season - 28 on the offensive line and 15 on special teams. Most of his work came against Central Connecticut State. Reed, a Fort Meade native, was a four-star prospect in the 2018 class. Brooks, a Miami native, was entering his fourth season. He played in 19 games over three seasons at UM, making 55 total tackles with three tackles for loss. - Sun Sentinel

  08/06/22 - Cam WardrSr/2025, Miami, 6-2, 219 (DS#1 QB) + More +

How good is Cameron Ward, and how explosive is this new offense? The sophomore quarterback put up staggering numbers over the past two seasons at Incarnate Word under coach Eric Morris - the new offensive coordinator at WSU and the mind behind the team's recently installed Air Raid offense. Ward signed with WSU in January as one of the top-rated transfers on the market. He immediately solidified himself as the team's starting QB. The expectations surrounding Ward have only grown since he showed flashes of superstar potential during spring camp. The Cougs believe they got the complete package in Ward, a poised signal-caller who has the arm talent to make any throw and who will be buoyed by a star-studded receiving corps. And the Cougs think they struck gold with Morris and his "Coug Raid" offense, a flexible system that leans on the pass without forsaking the ground game. - Spokesman-Review
