  10/15/22 - Jayden DanielsrSr/2024, LSU, 6-3, 210 (DS#2 QB) + More +

Jayden Daniels accounted for six touchdowns - three passing and three rushing - and LSU beat Florida 45-35 Saturday night at The Swamp for its fourth consecutive victory in the series. Daniels finished with 349 passing yards - 115 of them to Kayshon Boutte - and 44 yards rushing. The Tigers (5-2, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) rebounded from a 27-point loss to Tennessee a week earlier and matched their longest winning streak against the Gators since 1977-80. This one, like so many of the recent matchups in series history, came down to the final minutes. Trailing by a touchdown, Florida (4-3, 1-3) got a rare third-down stop with a little less than two minutes remaining. But freshman Damian Ramos kicked a 47-yard field goal with 1:52 to play to essentially seal the victory. Anthony Richardson tried to rally Florida, but his fourth-down pass fell incomplete, and LSU ran out the clock from there. Richardson played turnover-free football for the first time in six weeks, but the Gators needed him to play defense to make a difference in this one. He opened the game with a 51-yard touchdown pass and added a highlight-reel, 81-yard scoring run to start the fourth quarter. However, the Gators were too inconsistent in between.

The Tigers had no such issues. They scored touchdowns on their first six possessions, without any help from a short field. They rolled up 469 yards on those drives, picking apart Florida's much-maligned defense, especially on third down. LSU moved the chains eight times in its first nine third-down attempts. The one miscue? Well, coach Brian Kelly's offense converted on fourth down. Florida finally forced a punt with about 13 minutes to play and followed with an 80-yard drive that ended with Trevor Etienne's 1-yard plunge. Trailing 42-35, the Gators looked like they had a game-changing interception with a little less than six minutes to play. But Jason Marshall's pick was negated by a roughing-the-passer penalty on teammate Gervon Dexter. Dexter drove Daniels to the ground and landed on top of him after he released the ball. Richardson completed 15 of 25 passes for 185 yards and a TD to Justin Shorter on the second play of the game. Richardson also ran for 109 yards and a score. - LSU/AP College Football

  10/07/22 - Sevyn BanksrSr/2023, LSU, 6-1, 202 (DS#54 CB) + More +

Jordan-Hare Stadium went silent as LSU's Sevyn Banks remained on the ground, not moving, after delivering a helmet-first hit on the opening kickoff. Banks was carted off in a stretcher, and by halftime, he was back in the locker room with a neck brace, with movement in his extremities. LSU coach Brian Kelly had more news on Banks at the media conference on Monday. "The diagnosis is a spinal cord bruise, which puts him similar to Major Burns' situation, where there was a bruise, nothing else though, no structural issues," Kelly said. "That's probably going to take 5-6 weeks before we get him back. Now, Major burns starts running today, he'll be outside running with us. Next week, he'll begin football non-contact drills with us. So there will be a similar protocol and procedure provided there's no setbacks along the way." Burns was sidelined for the New Mexico game on Sept. 25. Kelly announced after that he would be out the next 3-6 weeks with an upper neck injury. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  10/03/22 - Sevyn BanksrSr/2023, LSU, 6-1, 202 (DS#54 CB) + More +

After a scary injury early in the Auburn-LSU game Saturday, LSU senior Sevyn Banks was taken to the East Alabama Medical Center where he was treated and released before the end of the game. LSU head coach Brian Kelly on Sunday thanked the staff at EAMC for their work with Banks, along with the Auburn's medical team and LSU's own trainers and doctors. Banks returned to the stadium before the end of the game. Banks went down on the game's opening kickoff. Auburn player Wesley Steiner saw his injury and immediately jumped up and down gesticulating for the LSU trainers to come to the field to treat Banks. The stadium fell into a hush as Banks was carefully carted out.

Later in the game it was announced that, after a series of tests at the hospital, Banks was alert and mobile and had been cleared to leave the hospital and return to the stadium. "A special thanks to the Auburn medical team, staff at East Alabama Medical Center and Beau Lowery and our trainers and doctors for their work last night," Kelly posted to Twitter on Sunday morning. Steiner posted shortly after the game: "For all those that believe in prayer please pray for Sevyn Banks long term health and swift recovery to playing football. He suffered and injury tonight at Jordan-Hare and it struck me deeply. He was being responsive. Thank Jesus for that one. I just want others to pray for him." - Opelika-Auburn News

  10/01/22 - Greg Brooks Jr.rSr/2024, LSU, 5-09, 187 (DS#999 FS) + More +

John Emery Jr. rushed for a tackle-breaking, 20-yard touchdown and Greg Brooks Jr. had a late interception to help LSU complete a 21-17, come-from-behind win over Auburn on Saturday night. LSU (4-1, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) fell behind 17-0 before Jayden Daniels brought the visiting Tigers back with help from Auburn blunders. It was the fourth straight win for Brian Kelly and LSU. Auburn (3-2, 1-1) blew its second straight double-digit lead, but was bailed out by Missouri's goal line fumble in overtime last week. There was no bailout this time. Brooks ripped the ball away from LSU transfer Koy Moore after a catch with 2:18 left in Auburn's fourth straight failure to capitalize on a trip across midfield. Backup quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who came in after Daniels banged knees with an Auburn player in the fourth, was able to run out the clock.

Daniels only passed for 80 yards but also ran for 59 and a 1-yard touchdown. Auburn's Robby Ashford passed for 337 yards and two touchdowns in his second start, including an early 53-yarder to Ja'Varrius Johnson and an 18-yarder to Camden Brown. But he lost one of his four fumbles and threw the late interception. Emery gave LSU its first lead late in the third quarter, breaking one tackle attempt in the backfield and having three other defenders get a hand on him. Auburn then set up first-and-goal from the 5 before disaster struck early in the fourth. First, Ashford dropped the ball and lost 5 yards, then Moore was intercepted by Harold Perkins Jr. on a trick play. LSU whittled a 17-0 deficit down to 17-14 by halftime, a week after Auburn led Missouri 14-0 after the first quarter. - LSU/AP College Football

  10/01/22 - Sevyn BanksrSr/2023, LSU, 6-1, 202 (DS#54 CB) + More +

LSU defensive back Sevyn Banks was injured on the opening kickoff against Auburn on Saturday night. Banks was strapped onto a stretcher and carted off the field after the entire team came onto the field in support. Auburn's Wesley Steiner immediately signaled to the LSU sideline after the play with Banks lying on the ground. ESPN reported that Banks was talking to medical personnel and would be taken to East Alabama Medical Center. No details were immediately available on the nature of his injury. Banks was called for targeting on the play. Banks is a graduate transfer who played in 36 games for Ohio State, starting 14 of them. Banks had only played in one game for LSU, making four tackles against New Mexico. - AP College Football

  09/30/22 - Garrett DellingerSr/2025, LSU, 6-4, 320 (DS#11 OG) + More +

Sophomore offensive lineman Garrett Dellinger is "doubtful" for the Auburn game this weekend with a hand injury, LSU coach Brian Kelly said Wednesday morning. Dellinger underwent surgery Tuesday, Kelly said. LSU hoped he would be available Saturday night, but there may not be enough time for him to recover. "It appears as though it's going to be tight for him to make the game," Kelly said. "At first, we thought we could get him ready. But there was a screw and a plate that needed to go in there. Right now as we're talking, I'd say he's doubtful for Saturday." A key piece of the offensive line, Dellinger started the last three games at left guard after playing center in the season-opening loss to Florida State.

The former top 100 recruit has played center, guard and tackle during his career. The Athletic first reported Dellinger broke his hand this week and would miss the Auburn game. Without Dellinger, LSU would have to use a different starting offensive line for the fourth time in five games. The Tigers played the same group in back-to-back games for the first time this season last weekend against New Mexico. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  09/24/22 - Jayden DanielsrSr/2024, LSU, 6-3, 210 (DS#2 QB) + More +

The LSU defense held New Mexico to 88 total yards in a 38-0 shutout victory Saturday night at Tiger Stadium. While the defense helped propel the Tigers to their first shutout victory since 2018, LSU did see its starting quarterback Jayden Daniels exit the game in the third quarter with an injury. Scrambling for 16 yards on a fourth-down play, Daniels was slammed down to the ground by AJ Haulcy and Dion Hunter. He didn't return to the game. Before exiting the game, Daniels had one of his most efficient games thus far, completing 24 of 29 passes for 279 yards. The LSU offense got going on its opening drive, marching 57 yards in eight plays, culminating with a 5-yard touchdown run by Armoni Goodwin for a 7-0 lead. After a 31-yard field goal by Damian Ramos made it 10-0, Daniels led LSU on a methodical, 15-play, 88-yard drive with Goodwin capping things off with a 1-yard touchdown run to make it 17-0.

Averaging 27.3 points coming into the game, New Mexico (2-2) struggled to develop any sort of rhythm offensively, crossing midfield only once. Lobos senior quarterback Miles Kendrick completed only 5 of 7 passes for 47 yards. Nate Jones led the Lobos with 33 yards rushing on eight carries and Jaden Hullaby had the biggest play of the night for New Mexico when he hauled in a 38-yard pass from Kendrick that moved the ball to the LSU 38-yard line - its deepest penetration of the night. Sacking Perkins four times on the night as a unit, freshman linebacker Harold Perkins led LSU defensively with eight tackles. Sophomore Garrett Nussemeier replaced Daniels in the third quarter, leading the Tigers to three touchdown drives to put the game away for LSU. - LSU/AP College Football

  09/17/22 - Jayden DanielsrSr/2024, LSU, 6-3, 210 (DS#2 QB) + More +

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels accounted for more than 300 yards of offense, including one touchdown passing and one rushing, and the Tigers wiped out a 13-point deficit en route to a 31-16 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday night. Daniels completed 22 of 37 passes for 210 yards without an interception, and also rushed for 93 yards, mostly on scrambles that frustrated and wore down the Bulldogs. LSU (2-1, 1-0 SEC) outscored Mississippi State (2-1, 0-1) 21-0 in the fourth quarter and 31-3 during the game's final 31 minutes. Armoni Goodwin sealed it with his 47-yard touchdown run with 4:50 left.

The Tigers didn't take its first lead until early in the fourth quarter, when they cashed in on Austin Williams' muffed punt on his own 10. Daniels' spinning, tackle-slipping scramble up the middle on third and goal from the 3 made it 17-16 on what was also LSU's first third-down conversion of the game. The Tigers widened the margin with a 14-play, 85-yard touchdown drive that consumed six minutes. Daniels connected with Malik Nabers on three drive-sustaining passes - two on third down, followed by a surprise, 27-yard floater on fourth and 3. Josh Williams powered in from 7 yards out on the next play to make it 24-16. Nabers finished with six catches for 76 yards. LSU's defense initially looked like it might struggle with third-year Mississippi State coach Mike Leach's "Air Raid" offense. The Bulldogs drove 87 yards for a touchdown on their opening possession, capped by Jo'quavious Marks' 37-yard run. But the Tigers twice stopped MSU runs on fourth-and-short to keep the game close. - LSU/AP College Football
