  05/06/22 - *Kayshon BoutteJr/2023, LSU + More +

Kayshon Boutte heads into this season as LSU's most-talented wide receiver. Despite suffering a foot injury that sidelined him for more than half of last season, the junior already has 1,244 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in his collegiate career. LSU has a history of producing talented wideouts for the NFL - Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase come to mind - and Boutte could easily be the next in line. - Lafayette Daily Advertiser

  04/27/22 - Jayden DanielsrSr/2024, LSU + More +

After LSU's spring game, coach Brian Kelly acknowledged the scrimmage gave no indication of who will start at quarterback next season. "We didn't clear up anything with the quarterback today," Kelly said. "We probably made it even more difficult." All three quarterbacks competing for the position - sixth-year senior Myles Brennan, Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels and redshirt freshman Garrett Nussmeier - rotated Saturday afternoon between the first- and second-team offenses. Nussmeier led the passers with 136 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, though he came close to throwing one along the sideline. He completed 56% of his passes (9 for 16) and a handful of throws were particularly impressive, including one down the opposite sideline to senior Jaray Jenkins. Nussmeier placed the ball around two defenders, but Jenkins dropped the pass.

Daniels, who took the first snaps, showed how his speed could shape LSU's offense if he wins the job. He finished with seven carries for 21 yards and one touchdown, but he would've had more yards in a live-contact situation. Refs quickly blew the plays dead, and defenders couldn't tackle the quarterbacks. Though more inconsistent, Daniels made some quality throws. He had a fade in the back of the end zone to Kyren Lacy broken up, and two plays later he lofted a 20-yard touchdown to Bech with touch. He also completed a 39-yard pass to Brian Thomas Jr. Daniels finished 3 of 9 for 68 yards. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  04/27/22 - John Emery Jr.rSr/2025, LSU + More +

Despite all the focus on quarterbacks, new coach Brian Kelly knows LSU must be committed to running the ball well to win the Southeastern Conference. He has a promising group, but his best runner is John Emery Jr. He had only four carries for 24 yards Saturday, but Kelly said Emery was playing hurt because he knows he will be less than 100% during the season. "I was proud of him," Kelly said. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  04/23/22 - Sevyn BanksrSr/2023, LSU + More +

Sevyn Banks became the latest outgoing Ohio State football transfer to head to the SEC, announcing on Twitter that he has committed to LSU. Banks, a Florida native, joins former Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly's first roster with the Tigers. He announced in January he was entering the portal as a graduate transfer. He withdrew his name from NFL Draft consideration due to an injury that kept him off the field at the end of last season. Banks did not play the first two games of the season or the final three games.

In between he generally held down a starting spot opposite freshman Denzel Burke. He totaled eight tackles and one pass breakup. As a first-time starter in 2020, he recorded a team-high seven pass breakups with 23 tackles, one interception and a 55-yard fumble return touchdown. He was one of the secondary's more consistent performers on OSU's drive to the national championship game. Banks joins receiver Jameson Williams (Alabama), quarterback Jack Miller III (Florida) and defensive lineman Darrion Henry-Young (Kentucky) as recent OSU transfers to SEC programs. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

  04/21/22 - Sevyn BanksrSr/2023, LSU + More +

Former Ohio State cornerback Sevyn Banks has signed with LSU, adding depth at a position of need and another transfer to the roster, the school announced Tuesday. Banks played four seasons at Ohio State. He appeared in 36 games and made 15 starts, bringing experience at outside cornerback. During his career, Banks recorded 43 tackles, 13 passes defended and two interceptions. He earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors as a junior. Banks entered his senior year with NFL draft buzz, but he suffered a knee injury last spring that lingered into the season, limiting his production. Banks then missed the final three games with an injury. He entered the transfer portal in February. LSU needed more cornerbacks after losing every starter at the position this offseason. The Tigers signed UL junior Mekhi Garner, Oklahoma State senior Jarrick Bernard-Converse and two incoming freshmen, but the lack of depth on the roster has been exposed this spring as Bernard-Converse recovers from a fractured foot. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  03/07/22 - Jayden DanielsrSr/2024, LSU + More +

Former Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels is transferring to LSU, where he will enter a wide-open competition to be the starter in coach Brian Kelly's first season with the Tigers. "Jayden is an outstanding player who will make our quarterback room even stronger," Kelly said Sunday in a statement. "He's a playmaker with a strong arm and the ability to make plays with his feet. We are excited to welcome Jayden to our program as we continue to build a roster of student-athletes who will compete for championships on the field and work just as hard in the classroom to earn their degree." Daniels entered the transfer portal last month, not long after Arizona State fired its offensive coordinator in the midst of an NCAA investigation. He has been Arizona State's starter the last three seasons, throwing for 6,025 yards, 32 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 29 games. The junior has two years of eligible remaining after the NCAA granted an extra year to all athletes who competed during the pandemic-altered 2020 season. - AP College Football

Former LSU cornerback Derek Stingley gave an update on his recovery from the Lisfranc surgery he had on his left foot to reporters at the 2022 NFL Draft Combine on Saturday. He revealed that the original timeline for his injury was 4-6 months and that he is ahead of schedule with his recovery. Stingley will not participate in Sunday's workouts for cornerbacks at the combine and is instead expected to work out for teams at LSU's Pro Day on April 6. He also declared that he is the best cornerback in the 2022 NFL Draft. "I know myself and I know that when I'm at the best version of myself, I'm the greatest," Stingley said. Due to the injury, Stingley only played in three games for LSU as a junior this past season. He was a Consensus All-American as a freshman and a first-team All-SEC selection as a sophomore. Stingley is a projected first-round pick. "Going into my second year and throughout my second year, I felt it was just as good as my freshman year," Stingley said. "Freshman year I had over 90 targets. Sophomore year I had 30. If anything, that should just say I was doing my job." - Lafayette Daily Advertiser

  12/20/21 - Myles BrennanrSr/2023, LSU + More +

Quarterback Myles Brennan announced Thursday he will return for a sixth season at LSU after entering the NCAA transfer portal earlier this year. Brennan submitted his name into the database in early November, which allowed other schools to contact him, but after a little more than six weeks, he ultimately decided to withdraw from the portal. The decision gave Brennan one more chance to become the Tigers' starting quarterback and bolstered LSU's depth at the position. He posted a scene on Twitter from "The Wolf of Wall Street" in which Leonardo DiCaprio's character shouts, "I'm not leaving!" "There's no place like home," Brennan wrote. "Let's ride tiger nation!" New LSU coach Brian Kelly called Brennan earlier this week, as first reported by Sports Illustrated, in the hopes of adding a veteran quarterback to the roster for his first year with the program.

Brennan mulled his decision for two days before the announcement. Nebraska had pursued him, among other schools. With Brennan back on the team, LSU now has three scholarship quarterbacks for the 2022 season. He rejoined rising sophomore Garrett Nussmeier and incoming five-star freshman Walker Howard, and his presence may let both underclassmen develop further before competing for the starting job. Brennan has one more year of eligibility. - Baton Rouge Advocate
