  07/14/22 - Stetson BennettrSr/2023, Georgia, 5-11, 192 (DS#8 QB) + More +

Florida hired Billy Napier in hopes of eventually taking the Gators back to their glory days of winning big and lifting trophies like their rival Georgia did in January. The new Gators football coach had a unique perspective of seeing the Bulldogs win the national title as former walk-on Stetson Bennett helped rally Georgia in the fourth quarter to the 33-18 win over Alabama.

The quarterback had committed to play for Napier at Louisiana before making a signing day switch and accepting a scholarship offer to Georgia in December of 2018. "I'm watching that game and I'm like, man," Napier said. "It's who the guys is, right? He's an underdog, he's a competitor. I love his approach to life, his perspective. I've got a ton of respect." Napier and the Gators will go up against Bennett and the Bulldogs on Oct. 29 in Jacksonville. "I love Stetson Bennett, and I'm really happy for the kid," Napier said. "The kid is living his dream. He got an opportunity that he cherished. It was really special to him. Nothing but respect for the kid, the family and I couldn't be more happy for him." - Athens Daily Banner

  06/22/22 - Nolan SmithSr/2023, Georgia, 6-2, 238 (DS#1 OLB) + More +

Given the absurd talent Georgia lost to the 2022 NFL Draft - a majority of which came on the defensive side of the ball - defensive end Nolan Smith will have the spotlight on him all year long. A year ago to this point, no one thought of Travon Walker as a first-round guy, let alone the No. 1 overall pick. Thanks to a single year of great production and amazing athletic testing numbers, he had a meteoric rise. It is not too far-fetched to see Smith - a former No. 1 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite - following the same path, particularly with the opportunity the 2023 season provides. - DawgNation.com

  05/03/22 - Adam AndersonSr/2022, Georgia, 6-5, 236 (DS#999 OLB) + More +

Former Georgia football star linebacker Adam Anderson was indicted by a grand jury in Athens on Tuesday for felony rape. Anderson was charged in the Superior Court of Clarke County for an incident at an Athens residence on Oct. 29 involving a 21-year old female. He has been out on bond since November 17, but barred from the Athens area except for legal matters and to return for a private workout in March for NFL teams. Anderson is scheduled to be arraigned on June 13. Steve Sadow, Anderson's attorney, said Anderson will plead not guilty to the rape charge. The indictment comes two days before the NFL draft. Anderson was considered a likely first round draft pick before he was arrested. - Athens Daily Banner

Georgia's top returning rusher was arrested early Sunday on two misdemeanor charges. Kenny McIntosh was charged with reckless driving and a safety belt violation by Athens-Clarke County Police. The senior from Pompano Beach, Fla., was booked in the Clarke County Jail at 5:45 a.m. and released at 6:54 a.m. on bonds totaling $2,000, according to an online booking report. Georgia athletics and McIntosh did not respond to requests for comment. McIntosh rushed for 328 yards and 3 touchdowns last season behind Zamir White and James Cook. He also had 22 catches for 242 yards and 2 touchdowns. McIntosh and junior Kendall Milton are expected to lead the Bulldogs' ground game this season. - Athens Daily Banner

  04/22/22 - Arian SmithrSr/2025, Georgia, 6-0, 179 (DS#50 WR) + More +

Smith was held out of contact this spring, but caught a 60-yard pass from Carson Beck early on G-Day. Smith has made big plays in his limited action with a 61-yard touchdown catch last year against UAB and a 55-yard catch against Cincinnati in the Peach Bowl in the 2020 season. "You look at Arian, he has an elite trait and we try to use that elite trait as much as possible," coach Kirby Smart said Saturday. The 6-foot, 185-pound Smith can be a vertical threat. He posted a 4.29 40-yard dash in his senior year at Lakeland (Fla.) High School.

Smith showed he can turn on the jets for the Georgia track team last season. He was part of Georgia's 4x100 meter relay team that finished second in the nation and set a school record and Smith posted a 10.39 100 meters at the NCAAs for 17th place. Smith was up in the air on whether he'll run track this outdoor season. "That's still up to debate," he said. "We're going to see how my leg really feels and really heals." Smith declared himself back to 70 percent nine days before G-Day. "I feel like my leg is healed, but it's not all the way healed," he said. - Athens Daily Banner

  04/20/22 - Amarius MimsJr/2024, Georgia, 6-8, 340 (DS#4 OT) + More +

Georgia's offensive line is set to get a rather significant piece back in the fold. Amarius Mims withdrew from the transfer portal and is rejoining the Bulldogs after he took a visit to Florida State, a source confirmed Monday morning. That came eight days after Mims entered the portal. Mims and Georgia athletics didn't respond to messages left with them on Monday morning about the news. Getting back the 6-foot-7, 330-pound Mims, a former five-star from Bleckley County High, would strengthen the depth at offensive tackle. Mims was working as the second-team right tackle during the spring but missed at least the last week of practices.

Right tackle and two-year starter Warren McClendon and left tackle Broderick Jones, another former five-star signee, seem to have a strong hold on their spots entering preseason practices. Austin Blaske worked at the top right tackle backup in Saturday's G-Day spring game. True freshman right tackle Earnest Greene emerged this spring and was the backup left tackle. Mims could compete at guard where Xavier Truss, Devin Willock and Warren Ericson are top starting candidates. Mims played in eight games as a backup last season as a freshman. - Athens Daily Banner

  12/31/22 - Stetson BennettrSr/2023, Georgia, 5-11, 192 (DS#8 QB) + More +

With one overwhelming half at the Orange Bowl, No. 3 Georgia showed that a humbling loss to Alabama did not break the Bulldogs. In fact, it might have made them even stronger. Stetson Bennett threw three touchdown passes, Nakobe Dean led an angry defense and Georgia returned to its dominant ways, beating No. 2 Michigan 34-11 on Friday night to advance to the College Football Playoff championship. "Answered a million questions about our team, bouncing back and how you played," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. "We've got a lot of high-character guys on this team and they played their tail off today." Georgia (13-1) earned a rematch with Southeastern Conference nemesis Alabama (13-1) in the title game Jan. 10 in Indianapolis.

It was 27 days ago the Crimson Tide rolled through the Bulldogs, shattering their air of invincibility after a 12-0 regular season in which they were hardly challenged. "All our guys did was work," Smart said about how they responded to the loss and three weeks of being asked what went wrong. The Bulldogs quickly answered any questions about whether the damage from that 41-24 setback would linger. Georgia became the first team in the eight-year history of the CFP to score on each of its first five possessions and led 27-3 at halftime. "We knew we were better than what we showed that last game," Bennett said. - Georgia/AP College Football

2021 ALL-SEC FIRST TEAM (COACHES): TE Brock Bowers, Georgia,...Bowers owns the single season receiving yards for a tight end (791) on 47 catches, which is now just two catches short of tying the school's single season record for tight end catches.
