Carson Beck threw for 278 yards, including a pair of touchdowns, and No. 1 Georgia opened another season of enormous expectations by stifling 14th-ranked Clemson 34-3 on Saturday. Leading only 6-0 at halftime, Georgia finally got its offense rolling in the third quarter with a pair of 75-yard touchdown drives, capped by Colbie Young's 7-yard reception and Nate Frazier's 1-yard run. Beck tacked on a 40-yard TD pass to London Humphreys that sent the Clemson side of Mercedes-Benz Stadium heading for the exits. Clemson was held to 188 yards and Nolan Hauser's 26-yard field goal. - AP College Football

Florida running back Trevor Etienne, who led the Gators with nine touchdowns and emerged as one of the team's most dynamic playmakers, entered the transfer portal Thursday. The younger brother of former Clemson star and Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne ran for 753 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore despite playing behind a shaky offensive line. He also had 172 yards receiving and a score while sharing time with Montrell Johnson.

Etienne and Johnson, a junior who followed coach Billy Napier from Louisiana-Lafayette, have become close friends during their two years in Gainesville. And Etienne would like to see both become primary ball-carriers so they can improve their NFL draft stock. He will have two years of eligibility remaining. He joins a growing list of Florida players who have entered the portal, including pass rusher Princely Umanmielen, receiver Caleb Douglas and defensive linemen Will Norman and Chris McClellan. - AP College Football

Mike Bobo reclaimed the offensive coordinator job at Georgia on Tuesday, with Todd Monken leaving the two-time defending national champions for the NFL. Bobo, a former Bulldogs quarterback and longtime assistant coach at his alma mater, also served as offensive coordinator under former coach Mark Richt. The 48-year-old Bobo has some big shoes to fill. Monken accepted the offensive coordinator job with the Baltimore Ravens after serving on a staff that guided Georgia to back-to-back national titles. The Bulldogs averaged 38.6 points per game in 2021 and 41.1 this past season while finishing 15-0, capped by a record-breaking 65-7 blowout of TCU in the national championship game.

Monken's three-season stint with the Bulldogs will be remembered for the stunning rise of quarterback Stetson Bennett from walk-on to Heisman Trophy finalist. "We are extremely thankful and appreciative of the three years Todd and his wife, Terri, have spent with our UGA family," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said in a statement. "We wish them the best as he moves on to the Ravens organization." Bobo, who had head coaching stints at Colorado State and South Carolina after leaving Georgia following the 2014 season, returned to his alma mater a year ago as a quality control analyst for the offense. "Mike was an excellent addition to our staff last year as an analyst, and we are looking forward to his expanded leadership on the offensive side of the ball," Smart said. Bobo takes over an offense with some major holes to fill, most notably at quarterback with Bennett's departure. Carson Beck, who got limited playing time the last two years as a backup, is expected to take over the job. But he'll have to beat out Brock Vandagriff, one of the top-rated QBs in the 2021 recruiting class, and Gunner Stockton, another touted prospect who has yet to play at the college level. - AP College Football

Former Georgia football quarterback Stetson Bennett was arrested on a public intoxication charge Sunday morning in Texas where he's training for Indianapolis Combine workout (Feb. 27-March 4). FYI, drinking is not one of the events at the Combine. Dallas Police responded at about 6:10 a.m. to reports of a man banging on doors in the 1600 block of Tribeca Way, according to information provided to the Athens Banner-Herald by the department's public information office.

When officers arrived, they located the 25-year old Bennett, the two-time national championship starting quarterback for the Bulldogs, and "determined he was intoxicated," police said. Bennett reportedly turned down a chance to play in the Senior Bowl this week in Mobile Ala. NFL Draft Scout rates the undersized Bennett (5-11, 194) No. 199, in area of rounds 5-6. - Athens Daily Banner

After Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett won the Manning Award Monday he was more judicious in his remarks than after winning his second consecutive national championship game. It was a fitting honor for the Georgia sixth-year senior who won MVP awards for all four of the College Football Playoff games in which he played the last two seasons. Now in its 19th year, the Manning is the only quarterback award that takes into account candidates' bowl and playoff performances. It honors the accomplishments of Archie and his sons Peyton and Eli.

Bennett was fourth in Heisman voting and considered an NFL longshot at 5-11, 190; rated 199 overall by NFL Draft Scout, in rounds 5-6..."People are going to have their opinions," he said. "My job is to go out there and play football, to get the ball in athletes' hands and do it consistently and play hard and play to win. People can say whatever, I hear it, but I don't really let it bother me." Some think he snubbed fans in the aftermath of his last win. "It was nuts," he said. "Them hating me, me hating them, us falling in love together and coming back, playing football, I mean, it was special. I wouldn't change a single thing. I don't think I'd be here without it being that way. I just hope that everybody who was there and everybody who was with me and everybody I was with knows I appreciate the heck out of it - everything." - Frank Cooney, NFL Draft Scout

Sedrick Van Pran, a rising senior and fourth-year player from New Orleans, announced Friday afternoon that he plans to return to UGA to play another season for the Bulldogs. Van Pran will be a third-year starter at center, where he earned second-team All-SEC honors this past season. More important, Van Pran was an offensive captain and an intellectual and emotional leader for his unit, which was runner-up to Michigan this past season for the Joe Moore Award, which goes to the nation's top offensive line. The Bulldogs already knew they were going to be without tackles Broderick Jones and Warren McClendon, underclassmen who declared for the NFL draft last week.   Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock and a recruiting staff member were killed early Sunday in a car wreck, the school said, just hours after the Bulldogs celebrated their second straight national championship with a parade and ceremony. Two other members of the football program were injured in the crash, which occurred in Athens, south of the Georgia campus. They were not immediately identified, but the school said both were in stable condition. ESPN reported that another offensive lineman, Warren McLendon, was among the injured. The junior announced Saturday he was entering the NFL draft.

The single-vehicle wreck occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m., according to a statement from the Athens-Clarke County police department. The initial investigation found that a Ford Expedition "left the roadway, striking two power poles and several trees," the statement said. The 20-year-old Willock was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Chandler LeCroy, was transported to a hospital, where she died from her injuries. LeCroy was a recruiting analyst for the Bulldogs. On Saturday, Georgia marked its 65-7 rout of TCU in the national championship game with a parade through town and a ceremony at Sanford Stadium. The joyous mood quickly turned to grief. - AP College Football

University of Georgia offensive lineman Warren McClendon was one of two passengers injured in a fatal crash on Saturday night that claimed the lives of 20-year-old Georgia football player Devin Willock and 24-year-old recruitment analyst Chandler LeCroy, according to an article from the Athens Banner-Herald. The car veered off of Barnett Shoals Road and hit two power poles and several trees early Sunday morning.

McClendon was one of two passengers in the car who sustained injuries but remains in stable condition, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police Department press release. McClendon only needed a few stitches in his forehead, according to the article. McClendon declared for the NFL draft on Saturday, just hours after Georgia's national championship celebration took place. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound player has spent four years playing for Georgia, during which he started 37 games on the offensive line. - RedandBlack.com

And then there were 12. That's the current number of underclassman personnel losses off of Georgia's 2022 national championship team. There will be more between now and the declaration deadline day for hopeful NFL draftees, which is Monday (Jan. 16). There have been no great surprises so far. Freshman defensive back Jaheim Singletary entering the transfer portal would come close to unexpected. A consensus 4-star signee, with some 5-star ratings, Singletary leaves at a time when there will be some significant openings for playing time in the Bulldogs' secondary. However, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound resident of Jacksonville seemed to have fallen behind Daylen Everette and Nyland Green in the battle for reps behind Kamari Lassiter and Kelee Ringo.

Ringo, a third-year sophomore, is among four Georgia underclassmen who have declared for the NFL draft - so far. Defensive tackle Jalen Carter, tight end Darnell Washington and offensive tackle Broderick Jones, who announced Friday afternoon, also have gone public with their decisions. Third-year sophomore center Sedrick Van Pran and junior offensive tackle Warren McClendon also have earned high pre-draft grades and will have decisions to make before the deadline. The rest of Georgia's underclassman starters appear to be leaning toward returning for next season. - Atlanta Journal Constitution

Georgia coach Kirby Smart had a good-natured complaint to fans when celebrating the Bulldogs' back-to-back national championships with a parade and ceremony for the second straight year on Saturday. "You didn't tell me last year we were going back to back. Wow!" said a smiling Smart. Smart referenced a quote from legendary UCLA coach John Wooden when he said winning the second straight national title for the first time in school history was more difficult than ending the Bulldogs' 41-year title drought in 2021.

"Winning takes talent," Smart said before adding, "but to repeat takes character." Saturday's parade led the team to Sanford Stadium, where many fans held up three fingers as they looked ahead to the goal of a threepeat. No team has won three consecutive national championships in the AP poll era, which dates to 1936. "We can't wait to see what lies ahead for this team," Smart said. "This team will have to be hungry because a lot of this team is coming back." - AP College Football

Georgia offensive tackle Broderick Jones has announced his intention to forgo next season and turn professional in the football ranks. Jones' move has been expected, as he projects as a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and could be the first offensive tackle selected. Jones was part of a Georgia offensive line that provided quarterback Stetson Bennett with the best protection in the nation, allowing only nine sacks during the Bulldogs' 15-0 CFP Championship Season. A 6-foot-4, 315-pound lineman from Lithonia, Ga., Jones possesses great footwork and technique. Georgia has a history of churning out NFL Draft picks on its offensive line, with no less than two taken in each of the past three draft classes. - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Georgia tight end Darnell Washington, a key piece of the Bulldogs offense in 2022 as they won second consecutive national championship, declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He announced his decision on Twitter on Thursday and it was viewed by more than 180,000 viewers within hours. Washington, a 6-foot-7, 265-pound tight end, played three seasons at Georgia and saw his role grow each season. He appeared in just four games his freshman year before playing in eight contests as Georgia won the national title in 2021.

He burst into a more prominent role in 2022 while running in tandem with Brock Bowers. Washington hauled in 28 passes for 454 yards and two touchdowns in 2022. Washington's combination of size, power, speed and agility make him an extremely intriguing NFL prospect. Washington is raw in the finer points of the tight end position, but he demonstrated his ability to grow his skillset and there's no question he has room to grow into an elite offensive weapon. Where he goes in the 2023 NFL Draft will be interesting to follow. - Darnell Washington's Twitter account

Jalen Carter and Kelee Ringo, two major cogs for Georgia football's defense this season in winning a second straight national title, didn't drag out their intentions for 2023 after Monday's 65-7 takedown of TCU. Less than three hours after the game ended, Carter posted on his Twitter account he's declaring for the NFL draft.

The 6-foot-3, 300 pound junior from Apopka, Fla., is viewed as a top five overall pick by many. He had two tackles in his final game with the Bulldogs, giving him 32 in 13 games with 7 tackles for loss, 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. He also had 3 sacks last season and was part of a defensive front Monday that limited TCU to a touchdown, had five sacks and 36 yards rushing. - Athens Daily Banner
