  OCT 24 BIG SKY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rex Connors (UC Davis),...For the second time this season, UC Davis redshirt freshman Rex Connors was named the Big Sky Football Defensive Player of the Week after his stellar performance for the Aggies this past Saturday. Connors posted 10 tackles, a pair of pass breakups and an interception in the 58-10 victory for UC Davis over Northern Colorado. Connors, who was named to the Jerry Rice Award Watch List last week, has earned four interceptions and 55 tackles this season.   SEPT 12 FEDEX GROUND FCS NATIONAL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Rex Connors, UC Davis, S, R-Fr., 6-1, 203, Pleasant Grove, Utah,...Connors was all over the field while the visitors from the Big Sky fell just short of second-ranked South Dakota State 24-22 in a rematch of a 2021 first-round playoff game. His career-high 17 tackles, including 10 solos, were the most by an Aggie since at least 2007, and he also intercepted two passes. Just after his first pick in the first quarter, he made a solo tackle on each of SDSU's next four offensive plays.   Miles Hastings threw for 328 yards and two scores and Ulonzo Gilliam Jr. ran for 150 yards on 16 carries and scored twice and UC Davis beat Northern Arizona 56-27 on Saturday. On the first play of the second half, Gilliam surpassed 4,000-career rushing yards with a 77-yard run to the Northern Arizona 3-yard line. Gilliam now is the 12th player in Big Sky Conference history to surpass 4,000 yards rushing. The Aggies (2-4, 1-2) used four quarterbacks who collectively completed passes to 14-different receivers. A four-touchdown second quarter by UC Davis put it away. It was the first time in 13 months that the Aggies topped the 50-point mark. They beat San Diego 53-7 on Sept. 11, 2021 and the following week beat Dixie State 60-7.   SEPT 12 BIG SKY CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rex Connors (UC Davis),...Rex Conners of UC Davis and Desmond Williams of Weber State were named Big Sky Football Co-Defensive Players of the Week after the pair posted impressive games this past Saturday. Connors racked up 17 total tackles, with 10 being solos, and picked off two passes for UC Davis as the Aggies dropped a hard-fought 24-22 contest at second-ranked South Dakota State. The 17 tackles were the most for UC Davis in a game since at least 2007, while the total ranks as the fourth-highest in the FCS this season. Connors was also named the FedEx Ground FCS National Freshman Player of the Week for his efforts.   Miles Hastings threw three touchdown passes, Trent Tompkins ran for two TDs and Ulonzo Gilliam Jr. broke UC Davis' all-time rushing record as the Aggies beat San Diego 43-13 Saturday night to snap a five-game losing streak that dated to last season. Gilliam went into the game needing just seven yards rushing to break the program's career mark of 3,589 set 24 years ago by G.P. Muhammad. Gilliam finished with 106 yards on 14 carries and has 3,689 career yards rushing. Hastings completed 16 of 21 passes for 270 yards with no interceptions and Tompkins finished with three carries for 22 yards for UC Davis (1-2). Vance Jefferson had nine receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown for San Diego (1-2). Chris Childers had 16 carries for 90 yards. - AP College Football

  2022 PRESEASON STATS PERFORM FCS THIRD TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: OL - Jake Parks, 6-3, 285, senior, UC Davis,...Parks earned All-Big Sky first-team honors in 2021 after starting every game at right guard for the Aggies, moving his career total to 42-straight. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native helped open the running lanes for UC Davis to rank second in the league with 178.5 yards rushing per game and fourth overall with 407 total yards per contest. The Aggies allowed the 29th fewest sacks during the FCS regular season a year ago. Parks was a 2018 Hero Sports Freshman All-American and garnered Phil Steele freshman honors in his rookie campaign.   2022 PRESEASON BIG SKY FOOTBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM: C Connor Pettek (UC Davis),...For Pettek, it marks the second-straight preseason that he earns the recognition. The staple in the center of the UC Davis offensive line has started 35 games and helped the Aggies boast the second-most prolific rushing offense in the conference and the fourth overall. The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native earned Freshman All-America honors from HERO Sports and Phil Steele in 2018, then garnered one of the team's Championship Culture Awards a year later. Pettek also became the first Aggie center to serve as a co-captain since Ray Wilburn held a similar title in 2012 and was voted in that role once again in 2021.   2021 ALL-BIG SKY CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): AP Trent Tompkins, UC Davis,...Another Aggie who could have made an All-Big Sky team at any number of positions, Tompkins wound up on as the all-purpose selection on the Second Team All-Big Sky Special Teams list and all-purpose certainly defines Tompkins' output. The redshirt freshman rushed for 436 yards with a 5.7 yards per rush average and six touchdowns, passed for 102 yards and one touchdown, and caught 11 balls for 77 yards.
