  Miles Hastings threw a pair of touchdown passes, Jr. Gilliam had 109 yards rushing and a score and FCS No. 10-ranked UC Davis beat Cal Poly 24-13 on Saturday night. The Aggies' win, coupled with Eastern Washington's 35-34 loss at home against Weber State, puts UC Davis and EWU into a tie for third place in the Big Sky Conference. Hastings's 1-yard touchdown pass to Carson Crawford finished a nine-play, 74-yard drive with 4:04 remaining in the third quarter that capped the scoring. Hastings also had a 9-yard TD pass to C.J. Hutton late in the second that gave UC Davis (7-1, 4-1) a 10-7 lead at the break. He completed 28 of 34 passes for 210 yards. Gilliam carried the ball 24 times that included a 30-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter. Spencer Brasch threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Evan Burkhart in the second quarter for Cal Poly (1-6, 0-4).   Ulonzo Gilliam Jr. rushed for 104 of UC Davis' 211 yards on the ground and Trent Tompkins added two short touchdown runs as the 12th-ranked Aggies breezed to a 32-3 victory over Northern Colorado in Big Sky Conference play on Saturday. After a scoreless first quarter, UC Davis (6-1, 3-1) used Hunter Rodrigues' 1-yard TD toss to Jared Harrell, a 2-point run by Tompkins and a 28-yard field goal by Isaiah Gomez to take an 11-0 lead into halftime. Tompkins scored on a 5-yard run with 2:56 left in the third quarter for an 18-0 advantage and he added a 4-yard scoring run just 1:24 into the final quarter. Northern Colorado (2-5, 1-3) scored on a Ben Raybon 44-yard field goal with 8:04 left to play to avoid the shutout. Lan Larison capped the scoring for the Aggies on an 11-yard TD run with 1:05 remaining. Rodrigues completed 16 of 26 passes for 187 yards with two interceptions for UC Davis.   Trent Tompkins scored on a 1-yard run with 27 seconds left to help UC Davis beat Weber State 17-14 on Saturday night in a matchup of two of the top teams in the Football Championship Subdivision. UC Davis (4-0, 1-0 Big Sky Conference), ranked No. 12 in the STATS FCS poll, had lost four straight against the Wildcats. Tompkins took a direct snap and raced around the left end to cap a 15-play, 69-yard drive that took more than 6 minutes off the clock, and gave the Aggies their first lead of the game at 17-14. Erron Duncan, a graduate student who sat out the unprecedented 2020 spring season, had his second career interception with 14 seconds left to seal it. Kylan Weisser, who made his second consecutive start in place of the injured Bronson Barron (knee), completed 19 of 32 passes for 225 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions for No. 14 Weber State (1-3, 0-1). - AP College Football

  Ulonzo Gilliam Jr. had 178 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 26 carries to help UC Davis beat Dixie State 60-27 on Saturday night. Lan Larison, Trent Tompkins and Hunter Rodrigues each added touchdown runs for UC Davis (3-0). The Aggies, ranked No. 14 in the STATS FCS poll, had 380 yards rushing. Gilliam capped the opening drive with a 1-yard TD run and, after Dixie State (0-3) went three-and-out, scored on another 1-yard run with 7:51 left in the first quarter. Tompkins ran in the 2-point conversion to make it 15-0 and the Aggies led the rest of the way.

Kenyon Oblad threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Quali Conley about four minutes later and hit Taylor Alvarez for a 4-yard score early in the second quarter, but his 2-point conversion pass fell incomplete and the Trailblazers trailed 15-13. Tompkins scored on a 4-yard run, Gilliam followed with a 2-yard TD and wide receiver Carson Crawford threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jared Harrell to give UC Davis a 36-13 halftime lead.   SEPT 13 BIG SKY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hunter Rodrigues was named the ROOT SPORTS Offensive Player of the Week, for the second-straight week, as the UC Davis quarterback continued his stellar start to the 2021 season. David Hoage and Trent Tompkins were honored for their efforts as well, earning Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week laurels respectively. Rodrigues wins his second weekly honor of the young season, after the quarterback threw a career-high 322 yards passing in the 53-7 victory at San Diego this past Saturday. Rodrigues tossed four touchdowns, while running one in on the ground, to keep his touchdown-to-interception ratio at a perfect 5-0 for the season.   SEPT 13 BIG SKY SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Trent Tompkins did a little bit of everything for UC Davis this past Saturday, as the redshirt freshman returned an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown, ran for 15 yards and another score, while also catching four passes for 52 yards.   Hunter Rodrigues passed for 322 yards and accounted for five touchdowns, Trent Thompkins scored twice, and UC Davis routed San Diego 53-7 on Saturday. Rodrigues, who completed 22 of 37 passes, connected with McCallan Castles for two touchdowns and Jared Harrell and C.J. Hutton also caught scoring passes. After an initial three-and-out the Aggies scored touchdowns on their next three possessions for a 22-0 lead early in the second quarter. They went for two points after all three touchdowns, converting the first two tries.

Rodrigues threw his four TD passes and added his touchdown run to help the Aggies (2-0) build a 36-0 lead in the third quarter. San Diego's Terrence Smith scored on a short run before UC Davis closed out the scoring with a short TD run by Thompkins, a 36-yard field goal by Isaiah Gomez and Thompkins' 85-yard punt return for a touchdown.   SEPT 6 BIG SKY FOOTBALL CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: EWU's Eric Barriere and UC Davis' Hunter Rodrigues were named Co-Offensive Players of the Week, Montana's Marcus Welnel earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades, and UC Davis' Isaiah Gomez and Montana's Brian Buschini were selected as Co-Special Teams Players of the Week. On the offensive side of the ball, Barriere and Rodrigues each led their teams to an FBS win as both quarterbacks passed for over 300 yards.

Barriere tossed three touchdowns to go along with his 374 yards passing against UNLV, while adding 32 yards on the ground to earn his 11th career game with over 400 yards of total offense. Rodrigues connected on 28 of 35 passes for 80% completion rate, which tops the FCS, while throwing for 311 yards and a score to lead UC Davis past Tulsa.   Isaiah Gomez kicked two of his four field goals in the fourth quarter and UC Davis, an FCS school, stunned Tulsa 19-17 in a nonconference season opener on Thursday night. UC Davis took the opening kickoff and went 75 yards in 11 plays with Hunter Rodrigues hitting McCallan Castles for a 12-yard score and a 7-0 lead. The Golden Hurricane answered with a Zack Long 41-yard field goal with 2:05 left in the first quarter and Steven Anderson's 1-yard TD run with 4:45 left in the half to take a 10-7 lead. Gomez kicked his first field goal of the day, a career-long 44-yarder, on the last play of the half to knot the score at 10.

Gomez gave the Aggies a 13-10 lead with a 22-yard field goal with 8:13 left in the third quarter. Tulsa regained the lead on Deneric Prince's 59-yard TD run to take a 17-13 lead into the final quarter. But the UC Davis defense stiffened and Gomez did the rest, kicking a 26-yard field goal with 11:09 remaining and adding the game-winner from 22 yards out with 7:35 left to play. Rodrigues completed 28 of 35 passes for 311 yards, while Jared Harrell had eight receptions for 136 yards.
