  Grant Harper threw for 216 yards and three touchdowns on 15-for-31 passing, Samuel Gbatu Jr. caught five passes for 108 yards and a score, and UC Davis defeated Northern Colorado, 27-16 on Saturday. The Aggies (6-1, 4-0 Big Sky), ranked No. 9 in the FCS coaches poll, rode a 21-point second quarter to secure the victory, as Harper threw all three of his touchdown passes in the frame. Gbatu hauled in a 34-yarder, Jordan Fisher added a 24-yard grab, and Laviel Pickett collected an 18-yard score to lift UC Davis to the win. Carter Vargas added 94 yards rushing on 15 carries for UC Davis. Nate Rutchena led with 11 total tackles. Brayden Munroe caught a 51-yard touchdown late in the second quarter for Northern Colorado, but the Bears were unable to carry that momentum into the second half. Eric Gibson was 30-for-42 passing for 272 yards and one touchdown. UC Davis has won five straight following a 60-point blowout at the hands of FBS Washington, while the Bears (3-5, 1-3) have dropped three of their last four games. - AP College Football

  Chauncey Sylvester had 135 yards rushing and a touchdown and Weber State pulled away early in the second half to beat Portland State 43-27 on Saturday. Sylvester's short-yardage touchdown run stretched the Weber State lead to 19-6 early in the third quarter. Zach Hrbacek and Will Way added a pair of short scoring runs, and Spencer Ferguson's 24-yard TD run made it 43-13 with 5:00 left in the fourth. Weber State (3-4, 1-2 Big Sky Conference) finished with 220 yards rushing on 41 carries. Ishaan Daniels also had a 20-yard pick-6 in the first quarter for the Wildcats. John-Keawe Sagapolutele completed 11 of 22 passes for 138 yards and threw three interceptions for Portland State (0-7, 0-3).   WEEK 1 BIG SKY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rex Connors, UC Davis (DB, Sr., Pleasant Grove, Utah),...Big Sky Preseason MVP Rex Connors officially opened his season with another big performance, as he led UC Davis to a 31-24 comeback win over Utah Tech. The senior racked up 15 tackles, with eight being solos, and one pass breakup. Connors called all the defensive plays on the night, as he aided in stopping the Utah Tech offense in five consecutive drives to close out the comeback win. The weekly honor is the first for Connors since winning it twice in 2022. With the 15 tackles, Connors now sits 12 tackles away from hitting a mark of 291 career tackles which will set the career program record for total tackles.
