Corey Rucker set the NCAA FBS record for a freshman with 310 yards receiving and caught four touchdown passes to help Arkansas State beat UL Monroe 48-15 on Saturday. Rucker, who caught nine passes, surpassed C.J. Johnson (283 yards, East Carolina vs. Cincinnati, 2019) for the FBS freshman record and Lennie Johnson (284 yards, Arkansas State vs. Missouri State, 1997) for the program record. His four TD receptions tied a program record with Omar Bayless (2019) and Alfred Bentley (1959).

Rucker's longest TD catch was a 66-yard reception to make it 35-7 in the first minute of the third quarter. Rucker had catches of 69 and 55 yards in the first quarter and a 31-yard TD catch in the fourth. The Red Wolves (4-7, 2-6 Sun Belt Conference) had 511 yards passing.   Don't blame the offense for Arkansas State's regression. The Red Wolves boast the Sun Belt's most productive unit (479.8 yards per game), top pass offense (349.7 yards per game) and arguably most explosive player in Jonathan Adams Jr. The senior wide receiver leads the conference in receptions (79), receiving yards (1,111) and touchdown catches (12). The Cajuns didn't test ULM in the air very much, nor did they need to after chewing up 344 yards rushing. - The News-Star

More than a month after linebackers Luke Fulton and Charles Willekes were suspended from the Michigan State's football team following assault charges, they entered the NCAA transfer portal Monday. Fulton and Willekes, two redshirt freshmen, were disciplined last month, five days before the start of the season. They were both arrested Sept. 8 following an incident at Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house in East Lansing. Fulton posted $1,000 bond. His charges were reduced to assault and battery and, after his plea was accepted in district court, he was granted Holmes Youthful Trainee Act status.

In Michigan, offenders younger than 24 who have pleaded to criminal offenses can have their court records closed to public view under HYTA. Under the law, such records remain closed unless the trainee commits another offense. Willekes, a 6-1, 225-pound walk-on from Rockford, is the brother of former two-time All-American Kenny Willekes. He played in one game last season on special teams against Michigan and was the scout team special teams player of the week from MSU's 2019 season opener against Tulsa. - Lansing State Journal

Tennessee dismissed outside linebacker Kivon Bennett from the football team on Tuesday, hours after he was arrested during a traffic stop. "There is a standard our student-athletes are expected to uphold at Tennessee, and today's incident fell well short of that standard," coach Jeremy Pruitt said in a statement. Bennett was stopped Tuesday around 11:21 a.m. by campus police, who clocked him driving 59 mph in a 45-mph zone. The police report said an officer asked Bennett if he had marijuana in the vehicle and that Bennett said he did. Police reported finding more than 44 grams of marijuana, a scale, 58 plastic baggies and a loaded 9mm handgun, according to the police report. Having more than half an ounce of marijuana is a felony in Tennessee. Bennett is the son of Cornelius Bennett, who was the No. 2 pick of the 1987 NFL Draft and a five-time Pro Bowler. - AP College Football

Louisville linebacker Thurman Geathers has opted out of the 2020 season with four games left on the schedule. Geathers, an outside linebacker that has been a rotation player and pass rusher for the Cardinals, showed promise in some of his appearances. Chris Person, of Rivals.com, first reported the news. The Georgia native played in six games and had four tackles, and he registered half a sack against Notre Dame. He did not play against Virginia Tech, even with Louisville missing eight players on the defensive side because of COVID-19 related issues.

"He's had some ups and downs in his time here, a lot of frustrations. He didn't play a whole lot on Saturday and really decided he wanted to pack it up," coach Scott Satterfield said. "It's unfortunate for him but he wants to move in another direction. Like I told our guys we want guys that want to be here. You have to be 100% committed. This is not a sport where you can be half in and half out, you have to be 100% committed to do everything you are asked to do." Geathers arrived at Louisville as a three-star prospect in 2018 and was ranked as the No. 73 defensive end nationally by ESPN and the No. 67 player in Georgia by 247Sports. - Courier Journal

The quarterback change to Jordan Travis not only appears to have helped FSU's rushing game but also its passing attack. James Blackman opened the season as the starting quarterback. But after two lackluster performances, the Seminoles made the change to true freshman Tate Rodemaker before their game against Jacksonville State. However, when FSU's offense continued to struggle, Norvell turned to Travis. He stepped in and helped the team rally to defeat JSU 41-24. FSU offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham says he has seen a ton of improvement in the team, especially since Travis took over at quarterback. "Anyone who wants to see the improvement, go put on Georgia Tech, and go put on the last three games," Dillingham said. "Just go watch it. And I would highly recommend that because it shows the progress. I said it last week -- we are getting better, not to be confused with good, and I meant that. - Times Union

Michigan State linebackers Luke Fulton and Charles Willekes have been suspended from the team indefinitely following their arrests last month in East Lansing. Fulton, a redshirt freshman, was arrested on Sept. 8, according to court records, and was charged with aggravated assault. East Lansing Police Department deputy chief Steve Gonzalez said Willekes was arrested as part of the same complaint but his court records are not public. "Luke Fulton and Charles Willekes were suspended from all team activities immediately, and remain suspended from the program indefinitely," Michigan State spokesman Ben Phlegar said, noting the suspensions began immediately after the arrests. On Oct. 2, Fulton pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and battery, and according the 54B District Court records, will avoid up front jail time under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act. His sentencing his scheduled for Oct. 28. Willekes, the 6-1, 225-pound is from Grand Rapids and was a walk-on last season. He appeared in one game - against Michigan - and is the younger brother of former Michigan State All-American defensive end Kenny Willekes. - Detroit News

OCT 19 SUN BELT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jonathan Adams, Arkansas State,...Senior wide receiver Jonathan Adams Jr. tied the Arkansas State school record for receptions in a game with 15 catches for a career-high 177 yards and two touchdowns during the Red Wolves' 59-52 win over Georgia State. Adams' 15 receptions not only matched former wideout J.D. McKissic's school-record total against Missouri in 2013, they tied the most in the nation this season and tied the second most in Sun Belt Conference history. His 177 receiving yards were the 13th most by an FBS player this year as well, while the game also marked the third time this season Adams has posted multiple touchdown receptions. The Jonesboro, Ark., native is currently ranked second in the nation in touchdown catches (7), seventh in receptions per game (8.2) and 11th in average receiving yards (107.8 ypg). - Sun Belt Football

Jonathan Adams Jr. stood behind the podium with a smirk on his face. His Arkansas State University teammate and fellow senior wide receiver Dahu Green sat across the way, a grin on his face, too. After a 59-52 victory Thursday night over Georgia State and a performance in which the pair combined for 24 receptions, 349 yards and 4 touchdowns, Adams was asked whether he thought they were one of the best 1-2 wide receiver punches in college football. "Facts," Adams said simply. "I think we're the best wideouts just because our size, our ability to move, high point the ball, go run and get the ball -- just everything. I think we're the best in college football."

Both Adams and Green had career highs in catches and yards against Georgia State. They also caught two touchdown passes apiece for the second consecutive game. Green had 9 receptions for 172 yards, while Adams caught 15 for 177. Those 15 receptions tied now-NFL running back J.D. McKissic's school record for receptions in a single game in 2013 against Missouri. But this isn't the first time the two have showcased their dynamic playmaking ability this season. In fact, Adams' claim that they're the "best in college football" isn't so far-fetched, according to the statistics. Arkansas State is currently the only school in the country to have two wide receivers in the top 10 in receiving yards this season, with Adams ranking first at 539 yards and Green eighth at 419. - Northwest Arkansas Times

Records were made to be broken. Arkansas State set two single-game passing records on Thursday night in front of a national TV audience, passing for a school-record 551 yards and firing eight touchdown passes en route to a thrilling 59-52 victory over Georgia State. The Red Wolves (3-2, 1-1 Sun Belt Conference) and Panthers (1-2, 0-2) battled back-and-forth offensively all night, combining for 1,192 yards – 865 through the air – and 59 first downs. The two teams also combined for 14 touchdowns and 172 total plays (Arkansas State 96, Georgia State 76). The teams traded scores for seemingly the entire night, accounting for seven ties and 10 lead changes, as neither team held more than a touchdown lead in the contest.

Jonathan Adams, Jr. grabbed a career-high 15 catches, tying J.D. McKissic's single-game record, to go along with a career-high 177 yards. Dahu Green was equally potent with nine catches for 172 yards. The duo accounted for four of A-State's eight touchdowns. Brandon Bowling also caught six passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. Five different Red Wolves caught touchdown passes on the night, including Lincoln Pare's two scores and one from Reed Tyler. A-State's quarterback tandem of Logan Bonner (18-28, 197 yards, 3 TD) and Layne Hatcher (21 of 28, 332 yards, 4 TD) had a tremendous night passing, completing 39 of 56 passes for 529 yards and seven touchdowns to no interceptions. - Arkansas State Football
