  09/29/20 - Grant MorganrSr/2022, Arkansas, 5-11, 224 (DS#31 ILB) + More +

Arkansas held Georgia to 387 yards despite the Bulldogs running 89 plays and having the ball for 36 minutes, 46 seconds as the Razorbacks' offense struggled to move and the ball with poor field position for much of the game. Georgia on average started its 17 drives at its 41 -- including nine in the first half at that spot on average -- but Arkansas led 7-5 at halftime. "Defense, I was proud of them," Razorbacks Coach Sam Pittman said. "They got put in some terrible [situations]. "I mean, if the defense doesn't step up the first half, we could have been down three touchdowns very easy because we couldn't get it off the goal line." It was the first game as Arkansas' defensive coordinator for Barry Odom, Missouri's coach the previous four seasons. "Coach Odom had a great game plan, and I thought our kids especially on the defensive side of the ball played well," Pittman said. Linebacker Grant Morgan, a fifth-year senior making his first start, led the Razorbacks with 13 tackles. "I think this definitely shows the defensive guys we have promise," said Morgan. "It shows we can be really good, and it shows we can be really good against a really good football team." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/29/20 - Dorian GeraldrSr/2023, Arkansas, 6-2, 265 (DS#999 DE) + More +

Three Arkansas defensive players will return to practice this week, but the status of one of the Razorbacks' defensive starters is unknown. Senior Dorian Gerald is "wait and see" with an ankle injury he suffered during the second quarter of the Razorbacks' 37-10 season-opening loss to Georiga, Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said Monday. Gerald had four tackles and 1.5 sacks prior to the injury. "He obviously turned his ankle," Pittman said, "so we'll have to wait and see what comes out of that." Gerald is still listed as Arkansas' starter at the JACK position, which is a defensive end position that can turn the defense into a 4-3 or 3-4 look, based on whether he puts his hand on the ground. Sophomores Mataio Soli and Zach Williams are listed as backups to Gerald at the position. Pittman said Soli and defensive backs Devin Bush and Jarques McClellion will return to practice this week. None of those three players played in the game against Georgia, and no reason was given for their absences. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/28/20 - *Treylon BurksJr/2022, Arkansas, 6-2, 224 (DS#4 WR) + More +

University of Arkansas sophomore Treylon Burks gained 866 yards receiving, rushing and returning kickoffs and punts in 11 games last season, but he never got in the end zone. Burks finally got his first touchdown as a Razorback on Saturday when No. 4 Georgia beat Arkansas 37-10 at Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Senior quarterback Feleipe Franks connected with Burks for a 49-yard touchdown pass to give Arkansas a 7-0 lead with 8:48 left in the first quarter. It was part of a big game for Burks, who had seven catches for 102 yards. "He's a really good player," Razorbacks Coach Sam Pittman said. "We certainly have to continue to try to get the ball to him more. "He can win contested catches and he's a special player, special kid, special person. We have to continue to run him a little bit more and get the ball to him more. "The touchdown grab he made and scored on was an exceptional play. I think that'll be things to come, but we've got to target him more." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/28/20 - Rakeem BoydSr/2021, Arkansas, 5-11, 213 (DS#19 RB) + More +

Georgia snuffed out the Arkansas running game and ace tailback Rakeem Boyd by dominating the line of scrimmage. Boyd never found a crease and finished with 21 yards on 11 carries. "Rakeem, it was tough sledding in there," Pittman said. "He was going to have to make his own for the most part today. We couldn't move those guys. It wasn't that they were playing any kind of special defense. They were just playing their gap, and they were hard to move." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/28/20 - Jerry JacobsrSr/2021, Arkansas, 5-10, 208 (DS#40 CB) + More +

Cornerback Jerry Jacobs passed the eyeball test on several occasions. The transfer from Arkansas State was playing in his first game since suffering a season-ending injury against Georgia last September. He was understandably amped up for the game and appeared to play well. He finished the game with seven tackles and contested a couple of passes that were caught on great individual efforts by Georgia receivers, including a third-down catch by Jermaine Burton in the red zone that set up a touchdown on the Bulldogs' next play. - Northwest Arkansas Times

Tailback Rakeem Boyd said the thought of opting out of the season didn't appeal to him. "I can't do that to my team, you know what I mean," he said. "I owe so much to my team. I feel like this is my team. "I came back to establish something, so opting out wasn't even in the talk. You know what I mean? It's not even in the talk. We're just finding ways to get through all this mess and we've done it." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/22/20 - Rakeem BoydSr/2021, Arkansas, 5-11, 213 (DS#19 RB) + More +

In 2020, his final go-around at Arkansas, Boyd is locked in and eager as ever to lead the program to success it hasn't experienced in years. "Last season, I thought I did well," said Boyd, a Houston native. "I think I could have done a little bit better in a couple of games, but that's just how life works. I think the Kentucky game when I was the (SEC's) leading rusher and ended it as the leading rusher, that's when I finally started to heat up. "This is probably my biggest year. I'm stepping up and really working out because I'm taking things a little more serious than I did in the past. I'm still that same dude. I'm just taking things a little more serious."

On Dec. 23, 2019, Boyd announced that he would be bypassing the 2020 NFL Draft and returning to the Razorbacks for his senior season, bolstering Arkansas' running backs group. The announcement came as a surprise to some. Boyd has flashed NFL readiness on a number of occasions with the Razorbacks, namely when he rushed for 100-plus yards against Alabama in 2018, becoming the first Arkansas player to do so since Darren McFadden more than a decade ago. The game was the starting point in an impressive four-week run in which he totaled at least 99 yards on the ground. Last fall, Boyd ran for 100-plus yards in four games, including a career-best 185 and two scores against Western Kentucky, and 89-plus three other times. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/18/20 - Grant MorganrSr/2022, Arkansas, 5-11, 224 (DS#31 ILB) + More +

It has definitely sunk in for Grant Morgan that he is gearing up for his final season at Arkansas. The gritty, determined and hard-nosed linebacker from River Valley football power Greenwood High School hopes each day someone will inform him that he has four more years to suit up for the Razorbacks. That, obviously, won't happen, so he is planning to make the most of his senior year. One thing he is adamant about is leading to the best of his ability. He will do so as a team captain in 2020. "(I want to) just be the best teammate I can be," Morgan said Tuesday via Zoom. "Showing these freshmen a good way to lead and a good way to learn and good way just to be somebody they can look to. I come every single day and just get ready to work, get a positive attitude and just be the guy I am. "Have fun and enjoy it, because you know these days are numbered. It has just been fun to see these guys grow up. Other than that it's just about playing ball at the end of the day, and that's just fun." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/17/20 - Myron CunninghamrSr/2022, Arkansas, 6-6, 322 (DS#26 OT) + More +

Arkansas grad transfer Xavier Kelly has an appreciation for the work of the Arkansas offensive linemen, particularly one of the guys he faces a lot, left tackle Myron Cunningham. When asked who stood out to him on the Razorback offensive front, Kelly said, "I would say definitely Myron. He's a great offensive lineman. He's really good. We make each other better. He plays on my side at times and we definitely make each other better." Cunningham, who is now 6-6, 325 pounds after adding 20-plus pounds in the offseason, said he's comfortable with his game.

"My confidence is high," Cunningham said earlier in camp. "I had a good year last year. I put on weight to help me have a better year this year. My expectations are high, my confidence is high. I've got nothing to lose." Cunningham said he's noticed strength gains while putting on pounds. "I definitely got stronger since then, a lot stronger, and especially it helps," he said. "I know [Sam] Pittman's referenced it before about sitting on the bull rush and pass pro. It definitely helps. It makes a big difference in run blocking." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/16/20 - Rakeem BoydSr/2021, Arkansas, 5-11, 213 (DS#19 RB) + More +

Four seniors have been named captains on Arkansas' football team for 2020. Quarterback Feleipe Franks, running back Rakeem Boyd, defensive tackle Jonathan Marshall and linebacker Grant Morgan were chosen as captains during a team vote this week. It is the first time the Razorbacks have had permanent captains since 2017. Captains were primarily chosen on a game-by-game basis under former head coach Chad Morris. Franks, Boyd and Marshall are presumed starters at their position this season, while Morgan is jockeying for one of the team's starting linebacker positions. Prior to the announcement of captains, Morgan spoke about being a leader at his position during a Zoom interview Tuesday. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/16/20 - Beaux LimmerrSr/2024, Arkansas, 6-5, 302 (DS#6 C) + More +

Early in fall camp, defensive tackle Jonathan Marshall said there was only one player on Arkansas' roster who could push him for the title of strongest player. That player was redshirt freshman offensive lineman Beaux Limmer, a former three-star prospect from Tyler, Texas. In his first interview this preseason Monday, Limmer pulled back the curtain a bit on the Razorbacks' unofficial strongman contest. "We're pretty neck and neck," added Limmer, who totaled 30 snaps in four games in 2019. "I think he's probably got me on squats, but everything else we're really close. Back in the summer, we were always having a little friendly competition in the weight room. "We stay together pretty well." When pressed for the amount of weight he was putting up during the offseason, Limmer said he benched roughly 430 pounds, squatted 565 pounds and power cleaned 325 pounds. His work in the weight room has apparently translated to the practice field and Arkansas' scrimmages. With less than two weeks until the Razorbacks' season opener against No. 4 Georgia, Limmer appears to be the frontrunner at right guard. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/12/20 - Xavier KellyrSr/2021, Arkansas, 6-5, 306 (DS#36 DT) + More +

Graduate transfer Xavier Kelly, a 6-5, 311-pounder from Wichita, Kan., has helped provide the defensive tackles room with a veteran presence and the vibe of a player who has contributed to a national championship-caliber program at Clemson. "He's done a nice job, 315 pounds and got good power, plays with leverage and he has got good quickness," Odom said. "He may be a little bit quicker than I thought he would be. "Maybe his explosion at the point of attack inside. We've been able to move him around a little bit because of his skill set. So really excited that we have him. He's gonna have to play a lot of good snaps for us this year."

Kelly would seemingly be in line for a starting job along with Marshall, a fellow senior who has been the strongest player on the roster for several years. The sophomore Nichols; redshirt freshmen Marcus Miller, Taurean Carter and Enoch Jackson; and sophomore Nick Fulwider are the emerging backups. Kelly was asked this week why he chose Arkansas, a program that has struggled throughout Kelly's college career. "Why not Arkansas?" Kelly replied. "My official visit, I came and I got a chance to watch film with coach LeBlanc. He's just a very smart guy and very knowledgeable about the game. And I was like, 'That's who I want to play for." "Just the way he coaches, he's very technically sound. And I wanted to play under coach Odom. I got a chance to meet the guys on my official visit, and I got a good vibe." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/12/20 - Jordan SilverrSr/2022, Arkansas, 6-2, 231 (DS#5 LS) + More +

Silver has worked with Brett Goode, the former Arkansas long snapper from 2003-06 who spent 10 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Goode played in 152 NFL games and won a Super Bowl as a member of the Packers in 2010. Goode, who now lives in Fort Smith, has worked with Silver for two years. After the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic, Goode has assessed Silver's snapping via video. "The thing about working with someone virtually, as long as you've been with them before, it's not that hard," Goode said. "I've watched so much video of snappers over the years. Playing, I studied snappers, so I don't necessarily have to be there in person. For football players, you're used to it because you film everything and you're in the film room. "He knows what he's doing and he's been doing great. The stuff I've done has been very, very little. He has a good work ethic. That's something I've been impressed with, and if anything, sometimes I've had to tell him to slow down a little bit. You don't want to overdo certain things. He's a great kid and I've enjoyed being able to work with him a little bit."

Silver practiced on his own during the offseason by snapping weighted lead balls into a wall behind him. He worked with a radar gun at home and was clocked at 39 mph. "I had a coach who teaches NFL technique to snappers who messaged me and said, 'The Colts' snapper's best snap was 37, and the old Jaguars snapper snapped at 33,'" Silver said. "It kind of felt good to hear that." Goode said velocity is important at the position. "Everything is done off time, so that's what all snappers are critiqued on," Goode said. "Obviously accuracy is there, too, but it's all about the speed of the snap. Everybody wants .75 seconds or under (to the person receiving the snap)." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  09/11/20 - Feleipe FranksrSr/2021, Arkansas, 6-7, 234 (DS#12 QB) + More +

Quarterback Feleipe Franks, asked last week whether he would need to take a snap in a game to fully trust his surgically repaired ankle, had this take: "I think my confidence is through the roof right now. "We had a scrimmage this past Friday and I felt wonderful, 100%. I take it personally every rep. I treat it like a game rep. So to say that when game time comes that's going to be my first game rep, I think that would be far from it." - Northwest Arkansas Times
