  One day after Tigers quarterback Bo Nix announced a paid endorsement of Milo's Sweet Tea on Thursday, defensive back Malachi Moore became the first Tide player to strike a deal with the Birmingham-based company. Moore announced the marketing partnership Friday afternoon on Instagram. Moore has one of the largest audiences on social media of any Tide player, which could potentially earn him more than most of his teammates in paid endorsements. He ranks fifth on the team in his number of both Instagam and Twitter followers. Moore played at Hewitt-Trussville and became a popular name among Alabama fans last season after starting 11 games in the slot as a freshman. He became the first Alabama player to endorse a well-known product after Thursday's NIL floodgates opened. - Birmingham News

  The floodgates are open, and as of midnight on July 1, Alabama athletes can capitalize on their name, image and likeness. A few athletes around the nation have announced deals and have already started promoting products. More are sure to come soon. Allen became the third Alabama athlete to announce a deal with Yoke gaming Thursday morning on his Instagram. He has about 13,000 followers. The redshirt senior from Baton Rouge finished 2020 with 13 tackles for loss and six sacks with two forced fumbles. He was named All-SEC second team. - Montgomery Advertiser

  Alabama linebacker King Mwikuta and walk-on defensive lineman LT Ikner have put their names in the transfer portal, The Tuscaloosa News has confirmed. Mwikuta competed in 11 games in 2020 as a sophomore with his lone tackle coming against Arkansas in punt coverage. Over two seasons with the Crimson Tide, Mwikuta played in 21 games with one solo tackle and four assists. Ikner, who transferred from Hutchinson Community College, did not see playing time in his lone season with Alabama in 2020. - Montgomery Advertiser

  Will Alabama go back to back for the Heisman this year? The odds aren't too shabby. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is sitting at +600 to win the Heisman Trophy this football season, according to SuperBook Sports. He has the second-best odds, behind Oklahoma's Spencer Rattler. Young, entering his second season with the Crimson Tide, is the only Alabama player on SuperBook Sports' 2021 Heisman odds. Last year, Mac Jones, Najee Harris and Jaylen Waddle were on the board, but DeVonta Smith took home the hardware.

Young saw time on the field as a freshman in 2020, but only for cleanup duty. Come Sept. 4, Young is predicted to be the starter vs. Miami. At Alabama's A-Day spring game, Young was named MVP after finishing 25-of-44 for 33 yards and a touchdown. "I think he's done a really good job all spring," coach Nick Saban said after the game. "We continue to work on him kind of having a presence out there that affects other people in a positive way, and I think he's starting to get more and more respect from the other players by the way he plays." - Montgomery Advertiser

  Sending 10 players to the NFL Draft is usually not a recipe for an encore. In Alabama's case, the defending SEC and national champion just might defy the odds. The Crimson Tide placed nine players on the 75th Annual AL.com Spring Football All-SEC team chosen by the league's 14 football information directors. The offense that had five players taken in the first round of the draft - wide receivers Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith, quarterback Mac Jones, running back Najee Harris and tackle Alex Leatherwood - put three on the All-SEC first team. They were wide receiver John Metchie III, guard Emil Ekiyor and tackle Evan Neal. Texas A&M also had three named to the first team - tight end Jalen Wydermeyer, guard Kenyon Green and running back Isaiah Spiller. - Birmingham News

  New Alabama linebacker Henry To'o To'o checks a few uncommon transfer boxes. He's an intraconference transfer from Tennessee, a rarity in the SEC in the past. He's also someone who had an offer from the Crimson Tide in high school, decided to play somewhere else, then transferred to Alabama during college. There aren't many of those either, in part because coach Nick Saban doesn't whiff much in recruiting. To'o To'o is a bit of a unicorn right now, but with new transfer rules, this type of transfer might become less of a unicorn and more of a quarter horse.

The NCAA's new one-time transfer waiver that allows a player to switch schools without sitting out a year has already interrupted the status quo. The SEC agreeing to follow suit will also contribute to changes in trends. Alabama has already taken part in those changes, adding players such as To'o To'o and Ohio State receiver Jameson Williams this offseason. Both had offers from Alabama in high school, and both will be immediately eligible. The rules have changed, but to understand what To'o To'o, Williams and any other future transfers to Tuscaloosa will go through, a look to the past provides a few insights for the future. - Montgomery Advertiser

  Alabama had five unanimous first-team All-Americans last season, but all will be playing in the NFL this fall. Who might be next? The first look at how Alabama players are viewed nationally entering the 2021 season came Thursday when the Walter Camp Football Foundation released its preseason All-America lists. Junior left tackle Evan Neal and sophomore outside linebacker Will Anderson were both preseason first-team All-Americans, while senior cornerback Josh Jobe was on the second team. Alabama's three selections matched Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and LSU but fell short of Clemson, Iowa State and Georgia's four picks each to the preseason list. - Birmingham News

  Redshirt senior Brian Robinson has been in the room with elite running back talent for years. Now, he has the best chance he's had while in Tuscaloosa to be the lead back. He rushed for six touchdowns in 2020 while playing behind Harris, Alabama's all-time leader in touchdowns, rushing touchdowns and rushing yards. But just because Robinson has waited patiently for this opportunity doesn't mean he is guaranteed most of the work. He is joined by some talented young backs, such as sophomores Roydell Williams and Jase McClellan. Incoming five-star freshman Camar Wheaton could also receive some carries. Redshirt sophomore Trey Sanders, who's recovering from an injury suffered in a November car accident, could also contribute if healthy. Even with some recent transfers, this group remains one of Alabama's deepest. - Montgomery Advertiser

  Ga'Quincy McKinstry has long been known as "Kool-Aid" McKinstry, but the nickname has reached another level. The Alabama football roster now has dropped Ga'Quincy and lists the freshman defensive back as Kool-Aid McKinstry. He received the nickname from his grandma when he was born because he came out smiling, he told AL.com in 2019. McKinstry also told his kindergarten teacher that was his name when asked. His name isn't the only thing about him that is flashy. A Pinson Valley grad, McKinstry received the No. 1 CB ranking in the country for the class of 2021 from the 247Sports Composite. He also was ranked the No. 17 overall prospect for the class and the top player in Alabama as a five-star prospect. - Montgomery Advertiser

  Alabama running back Kyle Edwards entered the NCAA transfer portal on Saturday, according to multiple reports. Edwards did not play last season as a freshman. 247 Sports rated him as a three-star recruit from Destrahan, Louisiana who ranked 425th nationally and 29th among running backs. He joins Keilan Robinson as Tide running backs to enter the transfer portal this week. Robinson did not play last season after opting out. Edwards ran twice for 2 yards in Alabama's spring game in April while catching one pass for 2 yards. Alabama remains deep at running back, with fifth-year senior Brian Robinson expected to lead a group that also includes two sophomores in Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams. - Birmingham News

  The SEC will allow immediate eligibility for intra-conference transfers, the league office announced Thursday. The change in policy takes effect immediately, and follows a recent NCAA rule change allowing for a one-time transfer waiver for Division I athletes in all sports. The SEC still had a rule requiring all athletes transferring from one league school to another to sit out a year prior to Thursday's vote of presidents and chancellors. "This is an important measure to further support student-athletes throughout the Southeastern Conference," SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said. "While maintaining the expectation that coaches and others avoid improper recruiting, this change will ensure that student-athletes who enroll at an SEC member institution will enjoy the flexibility afforded to other student-athletes across the nation."

Thursday's policy change affects a number of high-profile SEC-to-SEC transfers, including linebacker Henry To'o To'o (Tennessee to Alabama), safety Donovan Kaufman (Vanderbilt to Auburn) and quarterback TJ Finley (LSU to Auburn) in football and basketball players Desi Sills (Arkansas to Auburn) and K.D. Johnson (Georgia to Auburn). To'o To'o, Finley, Kaufman, Johnson, and Sills, among others, will now be eligible to play at their new schools during the 2021-22 school year. - Birmingham News

  Linebacker Jarez Parks is not listed on Alabama football's online roster as of Tuesday. BamaInsider was first to report the news. Parks is not listed in the transfer portal, though. Parks, a redshirt junior reserve linebacker, played in six games in 2019. He appeared in only the Kentucky game this past season. He didn't post any stats in his lone 2020 appearance. His most significant play with the Crimson Tide might have been when he pressured an Ole Miss quarterback into throwing an interception in 2019. He redshirted in 2018. - Montgomery Advertiser

  Young doesn't lack talent or pedigree. With a five-star rating in high school, he earned the No. 1 spot for dual-threat quarterbacks as well as the No. 2 ranking for all 2020 prospects. But he hasn't had much of an opportunity to showcase his talent yet, primarily working in spot duty as a freshman. He's off to a good start, though. He put together a solid A-Day performance with 333 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. Can he build off that immediately?   Alabama football has earned yet another accolade from the 2020 undefeated championship season. Junior receiver John Metchie III has received the Jon Cornish Trophy, given to the top Canadian in NCAA football after he became the first Canadian of an NCAA national champion in 17 years. Metchie, from Brampton, Ontario, got 94 votes. He edged out Oklahoma State's Amen Ogbongbemiga who received 91 votes. The next closest, Tennessee's Joshua Palmer, picked up 66 votes. Metchie caught six touchdown passes in 2020 with 55 total catches for 916 yards. He is expected to be among Alabama's leaders at receivers this season with the departures of DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle, both of whom went in the first round of the NFL Draft. - Montgomery Advertiser

  The Crimson Tide will kick off the season Sept. 4 in Atlanta against Miami at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will air live on ABC as part of a big opening weekend for college football. Later that day, Georgia will face Clemson in Charlotte at 6:30 p.m. CT also on ABC and Notre Dame will play at Florida State the following day at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC. Alabama will open its season for the third time in Mercedes-Benz Stadium on the Saturday of that Labor Day weekend. It beat Florida State 24-7 in the stadium's first year in 2017 before taking down Duke, 42-3 in 2019. This will be the first Alabama-Miami matchup since the 1993 Sugar Bowl when the Tide upset the top-ranked Hurricanes, 34-13 to win the 1992 national championship. - Birmingham News
