  Nic Baker threw for three touchdowns and FCS top-10 ranked Southern Illinois beat Dayton 55-3 on Saturday night. Baker was 16-of-21 passing for 235 yards, including a 53-yard catch-and-run TD to Avante Cox. Cox and Landon Lenoir, who also had a TD, finished with 98 yards receiving each. Javon Williams Jr. rushed for 123 yards on three carries, all in the first half. His total included a 73-yard run for the game's first touchdown. Justin Strong added 75 yards, including a 12-yard score. The Salukis (2-1) led 38-0 at halftime, outgaining the Flyers 438-89, including just 14 Dayton rushing yards. For the game, SIU outgained Dayton 658-218. SIU's Anthony Knighton was credited with a shared sack, giving him 23.5 for his career and a school record. Sam Webster kicked a 38-yard field goal late in the third quarter, ensuring the Flyers' 489th straight game without a shutout, extending their NCAA all-division record. The sophomore QB improved to 4-0 as a starter at SIU by completing 25-of-34 passes with 4 TDs and one interception. His first pass of the game went for a school-record 99 yards to Avante Cox.   Nic Baker threw for a school-record 460 yards and four touchdowns and Southern Illinois beat Southeast Missouri 47-21 in a season opener Thursday night. Baker finished 25-of-34 passing with his yardage total breaking Sam Straub's record of 450 yards set against Western Illinois in 2016. Avante Cox made five catches for 187 yards, the first game of at least 150 yards receiving for the Salukis since 2017. The pair connected for a school-record 99-yard touchdown on the Salukis' first play from scrimmage.

Tied at 7, Baker threw two more touchdown passes and Justin Strong ran for another as the Salukis took off to a 28-7 halftime lead. Baker gave up a pick-6 to Mike Mathews in the second half before throwing his final TD pass early in the fourth quarter to end his night. Southern Illinois, coming in with top-10 rankings in the FCS polls, outgained the Redhawks 553-243, including 460-101 in the air. The Charlotte, North Carolina, senior carried the ball 27 times in turning in the 15th 200-yard rushing game in program history and the eighth-best individual performance. His 220 ground yards are the second-most by an FCS player this season. With 17 career rushing touchdowns, Spencer is now five away from entering Western Carolina's top 10. It was the first win for the Salukis (3-1, 2-1 Missouri Valley Conference) in Youngstown since the 2012 season. Offensively, the 22-point effort of the Penguins (0-3, 0-3) was its best of the season after having scored a single touchdown entering Saturday's contest. On its final drive, Youngstown State put together a nine-play, 55-yard drive getting to the Southern Illinois 25 before turning it over on downs with 55 seconds remaining.   Javon Williams Jr. and Romeir Elliott each had a pair of touchdown runs, and Southern Illinois beat top-ranked North Dakota State 38-14 on Saturday that ended the Bison's 39-game winning streak. North Dakota State (2-1, 1-1 Missouri Valley), which has won three straight FCS championships, last lost on Nov. 4, 2017 to then-No. 8 South Dakota State. It was the Bison's worst defeat since a 37-6 loss at Cal Poly during the 2005 season. Williams ran for a 3-yard score and Elliott broke loose for a 20-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Both scores followed a North Dakota State turnover. Elliott finished with 91 yards rushing and Williams had 41, and the pair also had touchdown runs in the second quarter.   Memphis junior tight end Tyce Daniel has entered the transfer portal, the USA Today Network has learned. He's the second tight end to depart the Tigers in as many days. A source told The Commercial Appeal that Daniel opted out prior to the Montgomery Bowl. The source was granted anonymity because a formal announcement has not been made. Daniel appeared in eight games this past season and 20 over the past three seasons with two career catches for 12 yards. He signed with the Tigers as a three-star recruit in 2017. - Memphis Commercial Appeal
