  Sophomore Carson Camp threw for a career-high 355 yards and three touchdowns and ran 75 yards for a score to power South Dakota to a 38-21 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday. Camp opened the scoring for South Dakota (1-2) with his long touchdown run. He followed with 40-and 46-yard scoring strikes to Wesley Eliodor and freshman Shomari Lawrence, respectively, as the Coyotes scored on their first three possessions to lead 21-7 after one quarter. Camp hooked up with freshman Jack Martens 51 seconds into the fourth quarter for a 70-yard score to push South Dakota's lead to 28-7. Travis Theis added a 19-yard touchdown run. Camp completed 18 of 21 passes. Spencer Brasch threw for 362 yards on 24-of-42 passing with three touchdowns and one interception for Cal Poly (1-2). Zedakiah Centers and Chris Coleman both finished with 107 yards receiving and a touchdown for the Mustangs. Brasch and freshman Logan Booher teamed up for a 35-yard score in the first quarter. - AP College Football

  2022 PRESEASON MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): OL Alex Jensen, South Dakota,...Jensen has been a staple in the offensive line for the Coyotes since the 2019 season. He has started in 28 straight games at the left tackle position. The Plymouth, Minnesota, native helped a Coyote offense that averaged 170 rushing yards and 27 points a game last season.   2022 PRESEASON MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): DL Nick Gaes, South Dakota,...Gaes returns for his sophomore season along the defensive line after competing in all 12 games last year. The Alta, Iowa, native racked up two honors in his freshman campaign with a HERO Sports Freshman all-America team and MVFC all-Newcomer team selections. Gaes led the conference with seven solo sacks in Valley play and totaled 10 tackles-for-loss in 2021. He finished as the team's sixth-leading tackler with 35 stops. He made 39 consecutive starts at linebacker dating back to the first game of the 2018 season. He finished as the program's sixth-leading tackler with 327. Included in that tally are 5.0 sacks and 23.0 tackles for loss. In three seasons under coordinator Travis Johansen, Matthew made 152 tackles with 13.5 sacks and 25.5 tackles-for-loss. He was the Coyotes' fourth-leading tackler this season with 71 stops including 7.0 sacks and 10.5 TFL. He concludes a five-year playing career with a program-record punting average of 43.2 yards per boot. Schutt has ranked fourth in the FCS in punting average each of the last two years. He is 10th this year with a 44.2 average due in part to a league-best 25 punts pinned inside the 20. No other Valley punter had a higher percentage of pins.
