  04/11/21 - Amir RasulrSr/2022, Middle Tennessee, 5-10, 207 (DS#999 RB) + More +

They aren't strangers to college football and the stringent offseason workout routines that allow them to handle the wear and tear of a season. Both have played plenty of major college football, Pettaway spending four seasons at West Virginia and Rasul four years at Florida State. That experience factor was one of the reasons head coach Rick Stockstill and running backs coach Jeff Beckles were excited to get them to Murfreesboro, not to mention their physical attributes. "Amir, with his speed, we want to get him on the perimeter. He's a guy who came up in the track system, and when you get him in space, he's hard to bring down," Beckles said.

"Martell, he's done some big things in some big games. He transferred here from the Big 12 and has gone over 100 yards there a couple of times. He's been under the lights in the big stadiums and has done it, and we're hoping that carries over here and he can show guys that when we get into the stadium, this is how we react." Going through matt drills in January was maybe more exciting for Rasul and Pettaway than it would be in a normal year. Though they were a little winded at first, getting back into football shape really wasn't that tough, according to Rasul. "We had to go through matt drills and conditioning first, but after that, it's been pretty simple," he said. "We've been playing football forever, so you never lose it." - Middle Tennessee Football

When quarterback Asher O'Hara entered the transfer portal in December, Middle Tennessee suddenly had a need for a new starting signal caller. Returners Chase Cunningham and Mike DiLiello immediately entered into the battle for the starting spot, but wide receiver CJ Windham helped head coach Rick Stockstill bring in one more name to add to the mix. The senior wideout has quite the chemistry with the newcomer, too. "As soon as Bailey went into the portal, I immediately hit up Coach Stock and told him this is something we need to make happen," Windham said. "This is one of those things you can't draw up...and an opportunity we couldn't pass up on." Bailey Hockman is a redshirt junior southpaw who's gained experience the last few years playing for Power 5 programs Florida State and North Carolina State. Before he was a heralded true freshman in 2017 at FSU, where he spent a season with Blue Raider running back Amir Rasul, he starred under the Friday night lights at powerhouse McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia, an Atlanta suburb on the northwest side. Hockman was one of the best high school quarterbacks the state of Georgia has ever seen. - Middle Tennessee Football

North Carolina State quarterback Bailey Hockman plans to play at Middle Tennessee as a graduate transfer. Hockman announced he has committed to the Blue Raiders in a social-media post Thursday, about a week after announcing he would leave the Wolfpack. The redshirt junior and former Florida State transfer started nine games for N.C. State, helping the Wolfpack to eight wins and an appearance in the Gator Bowl. He threw for 1,820 yards and 12 touchdowns, starting the first two games before Devin Leary took over after being sidelined for much of preseason camp due to COVID-19 protocols. - AP College Football

N.C. State was going to have a crowded quarterback room next season one way or another. A seat just opened up in that room. Bailey Hockman, the Georgia native who started nine games in the 2020 season, announced on Twitter Wednesday morning he was entering the transfer portal. "This university and program has done so much for my life as (an) athlete and man," Hockman wrote. "I want to personally thank coach Doeren and coach Beck for helping me become a better person on and off the field." In 10 games, Hockman led the team in passing with 2,088 yards and 13 touchdowns. Hockman also threw 11 interceptions this season, including three in the Wolfpack's 23-21 loss to Kentucky in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2. In 17 career games at N.C. State Hockman passed for 2,185 yards. It's been an up and down two seasons in Raleigh for Hockman, who started his career at Florida State. He was beat out by redshirt sophomore Devin Leary in fall camp for the starting job, but it was Hockman, not Leary, who started the opener against Wake Forest. - Raleigh News Observer

North Carolina State quarterback Bailey Hockman says he plans to leave the 24th-ranked Wolfpack as a graduate transfer. Hockman posted a statement on social media Wednesday announcing his decision. It came after the redshirt junior and former Florida State transfer started nine games for N.C. State, helping the Wolfpack to eight wins and an appearance in the Gator Bowl. Hockman threw for 1,820 yards and 12 touchdowns for N.C. State, starting the first two games before Devin Leary took over after being sidelined for much of preseason camp due to COVID-19 protocols. But Leary went down to a season-ending leg injury against Duke on Oct. 17, and Hockman started the final six games. - AP College Football
