  Emmanuel Rugamba, a three-year member of the Miami University football team, signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League. Rugamba, a transfer from Iowa, earned third-team All-MAC honors in both 2019 and 2020 and was the Mid-American Conference Championship Defensive Player of the Game his junior season. In 2019, the defensive back started 13 contests, finishing the year with 85 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, one interception and eight pass breakups. He had 11 tackles versus Central Michigan in the MAC Championship game and added nine tackles and his first career interception at Western Michigan. The following year Rugamba started all three games for the RedHawks in 2020. He had 11 tackles, a forced fumble and an interception. Rugamba had seven tackles in a win over Ball State and had a 62-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 35-7 win at Akron. - Hamilton Journal News

  Tommy Doyle, a five-year member of the Miami University football program, was selected in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He was the 161st overall pick in this year's draft and is the last offensive lineman drafted from Miami since Brandon Brooks was taken in the third round of the 2012 Draft by the Houston Texans. Doyle is a two-time first-team All-MAC performer with expertise at both tackle positions. He started 16 games at left tackle during both the 2019 and 2020 seasons and has 14 starts at right tackle from 2017-18. He also earned Academic All-MAC in 2019 and 2020. In 2019, Doyle was part of an offensive line that allowed just 26 sacks in 14 games and as the RedHawks went on to win its first MAC Championship since 2010. That same year Doyle was named the team's Offensive Power Player of the Year. - Miami OH Football

  When Miami opened the 2019 season at Iowa, Brett Gabbert became the first true freshman quarterback to open the season as the starter in Miami football history. The younger brother of NFL quarterback, Blaine Gabbert, started all 14 games last season, throwing for 2,411 yards and 11 touchdowns. For his efforts, he was named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year, just the third RedHawk in school history to accomplish this feat. Gabbert joins Ben Roethlisberger (2001) and Deland McCullough (1992) on this small list. - Miami OH Football

  The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, has named eight quarterbacks as its "Stars of the Week," with Miami's Brett Gabbert one of the honorees. Gabbert completed 18-of-27 passes for 308 yards and four touchdowns in Miami's 38-7 win over Akron and added 48 yards rushing.   Brett Gabbert and Jack Sorenson hooked up for four touchdowns and the Miami University defense was dominant from the opening snap as the RedHawks downed the Akron Zips 38-7. The win is Miami's 700th in school history. Gabbert finished the game 18-of-27 for 308 yards and four touchdowns, while Sorenson had eight receptions for a career-high 177 yards and four scores.   Zach Kahn scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with 10 seconds remaining to give Miami (Ohio) a 38-31 victory over Ball State on Wednesday night in the season and Mid-American Conference opener for both teams. Ryan McWood intercepted a Drew Plitt pass and returned it 18 yards to the 6-yard line that set up Kahn's game-winning run. Kahn also had a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and finished with 42 yards rushing on nine carries. AJ Mayer was 16 of 24 for 212 yards passing with three touchdowns for Miami. Jack Coldiron had two TD catches and Jalen Walker had one. Plitt was 19-of-32 passing for 309 yards with a touchdown pass. Caleb Huntley ran 21 times for 131 yards, including touchdown runs of 45 and 18 yards for the Cardinals. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no fans were allowed inside 24,286-seat Yager Stadium. - AP College Football
