  2019 ALL-SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): DL Daniel Crosley, Lamar, Sr., DeRidder, La.,...Over the course of the past two seasons, Crosley has become one of the Southland top threats at defensive end. A disruptor on the line, Crosley finished off his career by earning All-Southland honors each of the past two years. The team's third-leading tackler, Crosley finished fourth in the Southland with 18.5 tackles for losses. He was also ranked among the top 10 in sacks (7.5). Over the course of his past two seasons with the Cardinals, Crosley recorded an astounding 33.5 tackles for losses and 16.5 sacks. - Lamar Football

  2019 ALL-SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): PK Bailey Giffen, Lamar, Jr., Bryan, Texas,...Giffen may be one of the biggest surprise stories of the season within in the Southland Conference. A former walk-on, Giffen took over as the team's starting kicker in the second game of the season and only impressed from there. A perfect 26-of-26 on extra point attempts, Giffen proved his leg was just as strong as it was accurate. The Bryan, Texas native finished the year 21-of-28 (.750) on field goal attempts to lead the Southland Conference. He was an impressive 9-of-14 (.643) on kicks of 40 yards or more and garnered national recognition following the Cards game at Houston Baptist where he booted back-to-back career long field goals (51 and 53 yards) to earn Southland and STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Giffen also averaged nearly 43 yards per punt on 17 punts, including four punts of more than 50 yards, on the season. - Lamar Football

  2019 ALL-SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): OL Tamatoa Neher, Lamar, Sr., Hauula, Hawaii,...The anchor of the Cardinals' line over the past two seasons, Neher was a junior college transfer who earned a starting job shortly after arriving on campus and never relinquished it. Neher played in 24 games during his career earning 23 starts. Equally adept at run and pass blocking, Neher quickly became known as one of the Southland's top players in trenches. During his time on campus, the Cardinals have been one of the league's top rushing team's having led the SLC as a junior and finished second in rushing this past season. - Lamar Football

Lawson tied for tops in the Southland in interceptions with five, a mark that also placed him eighth nationally.   2019 ALL-SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DB & PR Michael Lawson, Lamar, Jr., Patterson, Calif.,...Lawson overcame injuries to lead the Cardinals with 94 tackles from his safety position, including 61 solo stops. He also recorded 8.5 tackles for losses to go along with seven passes defended, a fumble forced and blocked kick. Lawson was key in helping the Cardinals secure an upset victory at Sam Houston State, in what turned out to be a defensive struggle. Lawson finished the game against the Bearkats with a team-high 10 tackles and two interceptions. The first interception helped LU preserve a 7-7 score to force overtime on the road, and the second pick came in overtime to secure the victory. - Lamar Football

  NOV 18 SOUTHLAND SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bailey Giffen, Lamar, Jr., Kicker, Bryan, Texas,...Giffen got Lamar on the board with a 51-yard boot through the uprights and made it a one-score game just before halftime with a career-long 53-yarder. He matched the conference-high for field goals made (four) and his 53-yard conversion was just one-yard shy of HBU kicker Gino Garcia's 54-yard kick back in September.   NOV 18 STATS FCS NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bailey Giffen, Lamar, PK, Jr., 5-9, 165, Bryan, Texas,...Giffen was 4-for-4 on field goals, including two beyond 50 yards, and was 2-of-2 on PATs while scoring 14 points in Lamar's 31-26 loss at Houston Baptist in the Southland Conference. The transfer so enjoyed kicking a career-long 51-yard field goal in the first quarter that he upped his best from 53 yards out in the second. He added 36- and 24-yarders, giving him an FCS-high 20 field goals this season.   OCT 14 SOUTHLAND DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Michael Lawson, Lamar, Jr., Defensive Back, Patterson, Calif.,...Lawson tallied five solo and five assisted tackles and picked off two passes, including the game-sealing play in the third overtime. On Sam Houston State's second play, Lawson got in front of Ty Brock's pass at the 17-yard line. His first interception stopped the Bearkats at midfield with five minutes remaining in regulation.   Jordan Hoy threw two touchdown passes and ran for the winning score as he rallied Lamar late to beat Abilene Christian 27-24 on Saturday night, snapping a three-game skid. Lamar trailed 24-17 midway through the fourth quarter when Bailey Giffen booted a 41-yard field goal to close to 24-20 with 9:30 to play. The ensuing on-side kick was recovered by the Cardinals (3-3, 1-2 Southland Conference) at the Wildcats 45. Hoy then marched his team into position and scored on a keeper for a 27-24 edge with 6:20 remaining after eating up most of the drive's ground yardage himself. Hoy finished with 338 yards passing for the Cardinals. He also led the ground attack, amassing 103 yards on 21 carries. Kirkland Banks had 10 catches for 145 yards and a touchdown.   Jordan Hoy threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns and ran for three scores as Lamar scored on its first two possessions to open the season on Thursday night with a 65-16 thrashing of Bethel (Tenn.), an NAIA school. The Cardinals needed just seven plays to go ahead 14-0 in the first quarter. Hoy hit Case Robinson on a 26-yard scoring strike to take a 7-0 lead early in the game. He followed that with a 7-yard TD pass to Erik Pizarro after Lamar's defense forced a fumble. Hoy ran it in from the 8 for the next score, on the first play of the second quarter, and the Cardinals sprinted to a 41-13 advantage at the break.

Hoy was 14 of 19 passing for 173 yards and two scores by halftime. He rushed for 50 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. Derrion Randle ran for 79 yards and a score and Cole Starnes added 72 yards rushing and a TD. The Cardinals amassed total 658 yards while limiting Bethel to 197.   2019 PRESEASON ALL-SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DL Daniel Crosley, Lamar, Sr., DeRidder, La.,...Crosley is coming of a 2018 season that saw him finish fifth on the team with 58 total tackles on his way to second-team postseason All-SLC recognition. The DeRidder, La., native ranked among the league leaders posting 9.0 sacks and 16.0 tackles for losses. Crosley posted one of his best individual performances in the second half against Stephen F. Austin.

After the Cardinals jumped out to a huge lead, SFA was attempting to rally late in the contest, but Crosley managed to come up with a key stop on several third downs forcing the Lumberjacks to punt the ball away. Crosley ended the game with 3.5 tackles for losses – including 1.5 sacks – two quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and recovered a fumble. - Lamar Football

  2019 PRESEASON ALL-SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): RB Myles Wanza, Lamar, Jr., Houston, Texas,...Wanza returns from a sophomore season that saw him become one of the league's top weapons. A member of one the nation's top 1-2 punches in the backfield (A.J. Walker), Wanza carried the ball 110 times for a team-high 683 yards (6.2 ypc) and three touchdowns. He produced those numbers despite missing three games due to injury. Wanza averaged nearly 76 rushing yards per game last season. Wanza saved his best performance for one of the toughest opponents of the season. Just a week after the team's thrilling victory over Incarnate Word, Wanza helped lead the Cardinals to an upset victory over nationally ranked Sam Houston State with 15 carries for 168 yards and two touchdowns. - Lamar Football
