  Kentucky Football   Zach Calzada threw two touchdown passes and Dekalon Taylor ran for two scores as Incarnate Word rolled to a 28-7 win over Northern Colorado in a season opener on Saturday night. A mainstay in the FCS Top 25 poll for 39-straight weeks, the Cardinals forced a pair of fumbles and picked off two Peter Costelli passes. Incarnate Word took the lead on its opening series when Taylor broke for a 27-yard touchdown run. The Bears answered on a 58-yard touchdown run by Vann Schield and the game was tied at 7 after one quarter.

Calzada gave the Cardinals a 14-7 lead at intermission by hitting Jalen Waithall from 46-yards out, then hit Logan Compton with a 13-yard touchdown to start the third quarter. Taylor wrapped up the scoring, capping a 13-play, 86-yard drive with a 1-yard run midway through the third. Calzada completed 21 of his 34 pass attempts for 205 yards with an interception. Waithall caught five passes for 103 yards. Taylor and Isaiah Robinson each ran for 79 yards on 14 and 16 carries, respectively. Costelli was 16 of 26 passing for 141 yards for Northern Colorado.   Louisiana Football   Ben Wooldridge threw for 308 yards and three touchdowns and Louisiana-Lafayette broke it open in the second quarter to beat Grambling 40-10 on Saturday in a season opener. Dre'lyn Washington scored on a 6-yard run on the Ragin' Cajuns' first offensive possession that spanned 82 yards in eight plays. ULL made it a two-touchdown lead when Wooldridge completed a 13-yard touchdown to Harvey Broussard early in the second.

On Grambling's ensuing possession, Caleb Kibodi intercepted Myles Crawley and ran it back 50 yards to make it 21-0. With 4:06 before halftime, Woolridge threw a 56-yard touchdown to Tavion Smith and the two-point conversion failed for a 27-0 lead. Kenneth Almendares added a 41-yard field goal with 39 seconds before the break for a 30-point lead. In the third, Wooldridge threw a 10-yard touchdown to Terrance Carter for a 37-0 advantage. Grambling finally scored when Ke'travion Hargrove crashed in from the 1 ending a nine-play, 75-yard drive. Hargrove ran for 61 yards on 12 carries and Crawley threw for 166 yards. The season opener marked the third consecutive season Louisiana-Lafayette has opened at home against a Division I FCS team from the Bayou State following games against Southeastern Louisiana (2022) and Northwestern State (2023). - AP College Football

  Albany Football   Seven McGee caught a 75-yard touchdown pass, the Albany defense accounted for another score and the Great Danes held off Long Island 27-21 on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams. Luca Stanzani drove the Sharks to the Albany 39 in the final minute, but the drive stalled when Stanzani was stuffed for just a 1-yard gain on fourth-and-10 with 47 seconds left.

Myles Burkett connected with McGee on the long scoring throw that gave Albany a 17-14 lead with 30 seconds left before halftime. Jack Iuliano scored on a 20-yard fumble return for a touchdown about three minutes earlier. Burkett was 12-of-26 passing for 165 yards. McGee finished with 119 yards receiving on five catches. Griffin Woodell added 85 yards on the ground on 20 carries that included a 3-yard touchdown run that gave Albany a 24-21 lead with 9:57 left. Stanzani completed 20 of 31 passes for 179 yards with three touchdowns. Ludovick Choquette added 128 yards rushing on 15 carries for the Sharks. - AP College Football

  Sam Houston Football   Hunter Watson threw two touchdown passes and Sam Houston scored twice in 50 seconds to defeat Rice 34-14 in a season-opening matchup on Saturday night. It was just the Bearkats' second win over the Owls in 18 meetings The last meeting was in 1993 and Sam Houston's earlier win came in 1939. Watson connected with Qua'Vez Humphreys for a 67-yard touchdown along the right sideline just over five minutes into the game. Two snaps later David Fisher picked off E.J. Warner's short pass and took it 30 yards for a 14-0 lead.

Warner connected with Kobie Campbell for a 22-yard touchdown, but Watson got that back just before halftime with a 32-yard pass to Ife Adeyi, making it 24-7. The Bearkats opened the second half with a 76-yard drive, capped by John Gentry's 1-yard run. Watson finished 16 of 27 for 229 yards passing and was the leading rusher with 57 yards. The Bearkats had 407 yards. Warner was 27 of 44 for 227 with two interceptions. Rice had 274 yards. - AP College Football

  Morgan State Football   Miles Miree scored two touchdowns and Morgan State never trailed in grinding out a 30-28 season-opening win over Hampton on Saturday night. The Bears ran for 244 yards on 55 carries and quarterback Tahj Smith attempted only 8 passes, completing 5 for 75 yards. Myree and Keith Jenkins Jr. led the rushing game with 68 yards each. The score was tied at 7 early in the second quarter, then Jason Collins Jr. gave the Bears the lead for good when he scored on a 41-yard run. After trailing 20-14 at halftime, Hampton closed to within two points twice in the second half.

Ja'Quan Snipes' 2-yard run for Hampton made it 23-21 late in the third quarter before J.J. Davis answered with a 15-yard run that made it 30-21 for Morgan State. Malcolm Mays hit Kevin Johnson Jr. with a 29-yard touchdown pass with 4:29 remaining in the game and the Pirates trailed 30-28. Morgan State then ran out the clock with a 9-play, 32-yard drive. Mays completed 13 of 17 passes for 168 yards with two touchdowns and was the Pirates' leading rusher with 63 yards on 4 carries. - AP College Football

  The Citadel Football   Garrison Johnson bulled into the end zone from a yard out with 1:55 to play to give Citadel a 22-21 lead with less than two minutes to play and Charleston Southern missed a 44-yard field goal with seconds left in a wild season-opening rivalry game Saturday night. Second-year coach Maurice Drayton earned his first win as the Bulldogs ended a 19-game losing streak. The Bulldogs trailed 21-3 after Tyson Greenwade capped a 73-yard drive to open the second half with a 2-yard run. But after that the Buccaneers couldn't hold on. The Citadel scored on its next two drives, both 1-yard runs, first by Johnathan Bennett and then Johnny Crawford III. In both cases the Bulldogs failed on 2-point conversions.

After another Charleston Southern punt, the Bulldogs marched to the red zone but fumbled the ball away. On the next play, DaVonyae Pettis had a strip sack of Rob McCoy that Chris Benton recovered on the CSU 13, setting up the winning touchdown. The Buccaneers responded by driving from their 10, after a penalty, to The Citadel 27 but on a second-and-6 play Patrick Fisher-Butler hooked the field-goal attempt left with three seconds left. Bennett passed for 170 yards and rushed for 55 for The Citadel. McCoy threw for 290 yards and a touchdown for Charleston Southern and was the leading rusher, netting 40 yards. - AP College Football

  West Georgia Football   Davin Wydner passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead West Georgia to a 38-29 win over Samford in the Wolves' Division-I debut on Saturday. West Georgia left Division II for the FCS this season and gave new coach Joel Taylor the victory. Wydner, an Ole Miss transfer on a West Georgia team with more than 60 newcomers, was 24-of-35 passing for 271 yards and ran for 58 more. Karmello English had six catches for a 108 yards and Chase Belcher rushed for a pair of scores. The Wolves retook the lead at 32-29 on a 4-yard Belcher run that came after Malachi Williams punched the ball loose and West Georgia recovered at the Samford 30-yard line.

On the Wolves' next possession, Wydner scrambled 21 yards to make it 38-29 with eight minutes left. Wydner threw a 44-yard Hail Mary to Dylan Gary on the final play of the first half for a 26-14 lead. The Wolves stayed on top until a scrambling Quincy Crittendon found Brendan Jenkins deep for a 68-yard score with six minutes remaining in the third quarter. A two-point conversion gave Samford a 29-26 edge. Crittendon was 24-of-41 passing for 302 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while running for 95 yards and two more scores for the Bulldogs. - AP College Football

  Georgetown Football   Naieem Kearney and Bryce Cox each ran for two touchdowns, Georgetown turned several big plays into points and the Hoyas rolled past Davidson 46-24 in a season opener on Saturday. The Hoyas broke open a close game with three touchdowns in the third quarter after Mason Gudger's 78-yard kickoff return to open the second half set up a 20-yard touchdown run by Kearney on the following play. Georgetown added a 64-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Quincy Briggs and a 23-yard touchdown run by Cox to take a 43-17 lead into the fourth.

Georgetown also had touchdown runs of 23 yards by Kearney and 59 yards by Cox. The Hoyas totaled 263 yards rushing on 27 attempts; 9.7 yards per carry. Georgetown's Danny Lauter completed 9 of 16 passes for 106 yards. After being as close as 19-17 midway through the second, Davidson did not score again until Andrew Frazier's 7-yard run with 1:55 remaining in the game. The Wildcats had 224 yards rushing on 57 attempts, led by Mari Adams with 48 yards. Georgetown has won six of the past seven matchups against Davidson and leads their all-time series 10-4. On Sept. 7, Georgetown visits Marist and Davidson hosts Catawba. - AP College Football

  Notre Dame Football   Jeremiyah Love broke a tie with a 21-yard touchdown run with 1:54 left and No. 7 Notre Dame beat No. 20 Texas A&M 23-13 on Saturday night in the opener for both teams. Love burst through the line and shed two would-be tacklers before waltzing into the end zone to give the Fighting Irish the lead. The Aggies had a chance to tie it, but Christian Gray jumped the route to knock down Conner Weigman's pass on fourth down to give Notre Dame the ball back. The Fighting Irish added Mitch Jeter's 46-yard field goal with 30 seconds left. Riley Leonard had a strong performance in his Notre Dame debut after transferring from Duke.   Texas Tech Football   Texas Tech's Jayden Cofield sacked Abilene Christian's Maverick McIvor when the Wildcats went for a 2-point conversion in overtime, allowing the Red Raiders to escape with a 52-51 win on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams. Behren Morton's career-high fifth touchdown pass, a 14-yarder to Caleb Douglas, who transferred this year from Florida, and Reese Burkhardt's PAT kick following the first overtime possession gave the Red Raiders of the Big 12 a 52-45 lead over the Wildcats of the FCS United Athletic Conference.

Abilene Christian answered with Isaiah Johnson's 1-yard plunge, his third rushing touchdown of the game. The Wildcats lined up for two with an empty backfield, and McIvor - who began his college career at Texas Tech but never played a game in three years - was pressured by multiple defenders and tackled by Cofield. Morton was 30-of-42 passing for 378 yards, one short of his career best. Tahj Brooks rushed for 153 yards and one Texas Tech touchdown. McIvor completed 36 for 51 passes for a career-best 506 yards and three touchdowns. Gino Garcia kicked a 31-yard field goal putting the Red Raiders ahead 45-42 with 2:39 to play. But the Wildcats reached Texas Tech's 4 and Ritse Vaes, in his first game for Abilene Christian after spending three seasons with Midwestern State, kicked a 21-yard field goal to force overtime. - AP College Football

  James Madison Football   Matthew Sluka threw for 71 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 59 yards as UNLV beat Houston 27-7 Saturday night in the season opener for both teams and Willie Fritz's first game as the Cougars' coach. Sluka, who was 6-of-13 passing, threw touchdown passes of 13 and 24 yards to Jacob DeJesus in the first half as the Rebels (1-0) led 14-0 at the half. Jalen Catalon, who finished with two interceptions, had a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Michael Allen rushed for 65 yards and Jaden Braden caught two passes for 60 yards. UNLV outgained Houston 308-247 yards. UNLV got its first win over a Big 12 team since beating Iowa State 34-31 in overtime on Sep. 20, 2008. Donovan Smith finished 15-of-30 passing for 135 yards with two interceptions. Mekhi Mews caught three passes for 57 yards for Houston (0-1). The Cougars avoided a shutout on a 2-yard touchdown pass from sophomore backup Ui Ale to Joseph Manjack IV with a minute left in the fourth quarter.   Mississippi Football   Jaxson Dart threw five touchdown passes and ran for a score in leading eight consecutive first-half scoring drives, helping No. 6 Mississippi overpower Furman 76-0 on Saturday night. Dart opened the scoring with a 15-yard run and the Rebels raced to a 52-0 halftime lead in the opener for both teams. Dart was 22 of 27 for 418 yards in the first half before yielding to Austin Simmons, who added a touchdown pass in the third quarter.

Ole Miss scored on first half series of 75, 90, 46, 20, 63, 81, 61 and 58 yards, highlighted by touchdown passes of 61 and 22 yards to Tre Harris. He had eight receptions for 179 yards. The Rebels finished with 772 yards of total offense, 502 in the first half, adding Caden Davis' two field goals and touchdown runs of 17 and 46 yards by Matt Jones to cap the scoring. Jones led all rushers with 68 yards. Furman only crossed midfield four times, and ended nine other series with negative yardage. The Paladins had 172 yards of total offense, including Carson Jones with 15-of-25 passing for 119 yards. - AP College Football

  Arkansas State Football   Corey Rucker caught a Jaylen Raynor pass in the corner of the end zone with three seconds remaining to give Arkansas State a 34-31 victory over FCS-member Central Arkansas on Saturday night in a season opener for both teams. A video replay confirmed Rucker had one foot inbounds and controlled the ball to the ground. Rucker finished with nine catches for 179 yards.

Raynor was 24 of 47 for 317 yards with one touchdown and one interception, and he carried it 15 times for 49 yards and another score. It was a wild fourth quarter that started with Raynor giving Arkansas State a 27-10 lead on a 5-yard sneak. But ShunDerrick Powell scored two plays later on an 89-yard run for the first of 21 straight points for Central Arkansas. The Bears forced a fumble with under two minutes to play and capitalized four plays later on Darius Hale's 4-yard touchdown run with 55 seconds left. Arkansas State faced a fourth-and-4 at its own 36 before Raynor connected on a 52-yard pass to Rucker with 25 seconds left. Raynor found Ja'Quez Cross on his next two completions for 25 yards to get to the 7-yard line before the game-winner. - AP College Football

  Colorado Football   Kaidon Salter threw two touchdown passes, Quinton Cooley had 110 yards on the ground and Liberty defeated Campbell 41-24 on Saturday in the season opener for both teams. Campbell took a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter on a short field goal and a 36-yard touchdown pass from Chad Mascoe Jr. to Sincere Brown. Liberty tied it with a field goal then took the lead for good when Salter connected with Treon Sibley for a 70-yard touchdown to lead 17-10 at halftime. Sibley had five receptions for 109 yards.

Salter's second TD pass and short touchdown runs by Billy Lucas and Ryan Burger helped Liberty push its lead to 41-17 with about four minutes remaining in the game. Salter completed 16 of 23 passes for 242 yards. Mascoe was 10 of 17 passing for 170 yards. Brown had five receptions for 126 yards. Liberty has not lost a regular-season game under coach Jamey Chadwell, now in his second season. The Flames went 13-0 in 2023 before losing to Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl. Saturday's game was the debut of Braxton Harris, who was named interim coach of the Fighting Camels in April. - AP College Football

  UCLA Football   Mateen Bhaghani converted a 32-yard field goal with 56 seconds to play to help UCLA open its season with a 16-13 win over Hawaii on Saturday night. The Bruins (1-0) did all their scoring in the second half to erase a 10-0 halftime deficit against the Rainbow Warriors (1-1). UCLA overcame a lackluster first 30 minutes of the game and eventually evened the score at 13 with 14:05 to play on Bhaghani's 37-yard field goal that came five plays after an interception by D.J. Justice.

The Bruins started their final drive with 3:08 to play and drove 45 yards in seven plays, capped by Bhaghani's game-winning 32-yard field goal from the left hash that split the uprights. Hawaii scored on its opening possession, when it orchestrated a nine-play, 73-yard drive that was punctuated by a 19-yard touchdown pass from Brayden Schager to a wide open Pofele Ashlock. Schager was 7-for-7 passing on the drive for 51 yards on the drive, which was extended by a 19-yard gain by punter Lucas Borrow on fourth-and-6. Kansei Matsuzawa's 28-yard field goal as time expired in the first half gave Hawaii a 10-0 lead at the intermission. The field goal was set up by Logan Taylor's interception and seven-yard return to the UCLA 5-yard line. - AP College Football
