Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney released a video Wednesday afternoon that covered a variety of topics, including his message to Tigers fans and South Carolina residents during this time of uncertainty. The comments were Swinney's first since Clemson' s program split up for spring break nearly two weeks ago. Staff members and players were unable to return as Clemson's campus was shut down, and all classes will remain online through the end of the semester.Swinney encouraged Clemson fans and Sou th Carolina residents to take the coronavirus seriously and do what they can to keep it from continuing to spread. "Stay clean, wash your hands a lot. Be very mindful of where you are. Hopefully you're home safe. But if you are out stay out of groups and try to stay away from sick people and those types of things," Swinney said. "And if you are sick, stay home for sure and we can kick this thing in the tail and get back to our lives here at some point." Swinney added that he is "very hopeful" football w ill be played this fall but also made it clear that there are other things going on in the country that are more important right now. - The State

The past six weeks, former UH running back Dayton Furuta has been training in Arizona ahead of pro day. After learning of the postponement, Furuta recalled, "I had same reaction as everyone else training. I was bummed out at first. But at the end of the day, it's the people we have to think about. We have to hope this pandemic doesn't get too far out of hand. Hopefully, we can get on it soon, and still have a chance (for pro scouts)." At 5 feet 11 and 250 pounds, Furuta had drawn interest as a fullback before the start of the 2019 season. But he suffered an ankle injury that sidelined him for nine games. "After my injury and being out so long, just the process it took to come back, I wasn't sure if I would have the opportunity without playing the major ity of my senior year." Furuta accepted an invitation to the Hula Bowl, where he showed his blocking ability. He said he received encouragement from scouts attending the all-star game. Furuta said the plan is to video workouts and then send them to NFL s couts. "Hopefully, we can open some eyes and get some interest from at least one person," Furuta said. - Honolulu Advertiser

Alabama has moved its pro day from March 24 to April 9, according to a report by ESPN's Field Yates. It is the latest development amid concerns over the spread of coronavirus. The new date aligns with a previously scheduled individual pro day for Tua Tag ovailoa. The decision to move the pro day came after Alabama decided to prohibit NFL team personnel from visiting its football facility through March 30, ESPN reported. Separately, several NFL teams on Thursday announced they had pulled their coaches and scouts off the road. This is typically a busy time of year for organized pro days and private on-campus workouts of prospects by those coaches and scouts ahead of the start of the NFL draft on April 23. - Birmingham News

Clemson receiver Justyn Ross is being held out of contact work in practice because of "some stinger symptoms lingering," Clemson coach Dabo Swinney announced following Wednesday's practice. Ross did not practice Monday and was held out of Wednesday's scr immage. He did attend the scrimmage but is being held out of contact because "they're just trying to be precautionary with him." The junior had 66 catches for 865 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He was first on the team in catches and second in y ards. Ross had 1,000 yards as a freshman and is expected to take an even more prominent role with Tee Higgins moving on to the NFL. Swinney is hopeful Ross will be back to practice when the Tigers return from spring break March 23. "Even though he's fine now they want to make sure that there's no bigger issue or anything like that," Swinney said. "So hopefully when we get back we'll have more information at that time." - The State

Alabama's new online roster doesn't include one of the Crimson Tide's backup inside linebackers from last season. Redshirt junior Markail Benton has been removed from the Tide's online roster. While Benton hasn't entered the NCAA transfer portal as of Mo nday night, it's the second time this offseason that Benton has been taken off that online roster. In addition, sources had indicated during this last month that Benton hadn't been around the team. The former four-star recruit posted 19 tackles as a reds hirt sophomore for Alabama last season. - Birmingham News

It can be argued that the history of present-day football, both pro and college, was shaped by the Miami Dolphins with one decision. The Dolphins didn't sign quarterback Drew Brees as a free agent in 2006 because of a previous injury, and that one choice altered football's timeline forever. It's the Brees Butterfly Effect Theory. Brees went to the New Orleans Saints and became the most prolific quarterbacks in NFL history, the New England Patriots continued their dynastic dominance of the AFC East and N ick Saban left for Alabama and reshaped college football. The rabbit hole is deep, y'all. Somewhere along the path of those cascading dominoes and sliding doors a young phenom of a quarterback in Hawaii decided to pass on Pac-12 football, move with his f amily about halfway around the world and play college football for Saban's Crimson Tide. That quarterback, of course, is Tua Tagovailoa, who on Monday is scheduled to begin full workouts after that devastating hip injury back in November.And now w e are here, with less than two months before the 2020 NFL Draft, and talk about things coming full circle. The mock drafts are everywhere after the NFL Combine, and the Dolphins are everyone's pick to draft an injured quarterback out of Alabama who was c oached by Saban and is being compared to Brees. A former San Jose football standout who played running back at the University of Nebraska pleaded no contest to a charge that he texted a sex video of a former girlfriend to her in an act of retaliation. Maurice Washington III, a former South Bay footbal l standout who played at the University of Nebraska, leaves the Hall of Justice in San Jose on April 10, 2019, after being arraigned on "revenge porn" charges stemming from allegations he texted an underage sex video of a former girlfriend after she reje cted his online advances a year earlier. Maurice Washington III, 20, pleaded Thursday to a misdemeanor count of distributing a private sexual video to cause emotional distress, a violation of what is commonly known as California's "revenge porn" law. One of the most productive defensive backs in the nation for the last two years, Cisco is already the FBS active leader in interceptions (12). He followed up an All-American freshman season by earning second-team All-ACC honors in 2019 despite missing th ree games due to injury. Cisco has excellent anticipation, partially a product of his strong preparation, as well as the ball skills to capitalize on the opportunities that provides. Auburn held its annual pro day on Friday at the program's indoor practice facility, with 18 former Tigers working out in front of personnel from across the NFL -- including at least two head coaches in Detroit's Matt Patricia and New York Giants coach Jo e Judge. Along with the nine players who participated at last week's NFL Combine in Indianapolis, the following former Auburn players participated in Friday's pro day: offensive linemen Mike Horton and Marquel Harrell, safety Jeremiah Dinson, receiver/ti ght end Sal Cannella, tight end Jay Jay Wilson, receiver Will Hastings, defensive lineman Gary Walker, running back Kam Martin and H-back Spencer Nigh.While each of those nine players had their first opportunity to show out in front of NFL scouts, many of the Tigers who participated in the Combine rested on their numbers from last week's scouting event and only participated in position drills and select workouts. Record-breaking Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has announced plans for his first football camp, and it's not far from Bryant-Denny Stadium. The inaugural Tua Tagovailoa Football ProCamp is scheduled for Saturday, April 18 at Tuscaloosa County High in Northport. Cost is $149 per camper, which includes an autograph and photo opportunity with Tagovailoa, who is scheduled to attend. The camp is open to boys and girls in grades 1-8, which apparently bars high school players from participating. The camp w ebsite does not list a cap on the number of participants. Tagovailoa rde-wrote Alabama's record book as a starter for the last two seasons, having thrown for 7,442 yards and 87 touchdowns against just 11 interceptions, in a storybook career that included the second-and-26 touchdown pass to win beat Georgia in the national championship game to cap his freshman season. Despite suffering a season-ending hip injury against Mississippi State last season, Tagovailoa remains one of the top quarterbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft. A lingering core muscle injury prevented Laviska Shenault from showcasing his skills and speed at the NFL scouting combine, where the former University of Colorado superstar posted a slower-than-expected 4.58 seconds in the 40-yard dash. What was instead on display in Indianapolis last week was Shenault's off-the-charts ambition, the same desire that drove him to play through pain most of last season. Following his combine cameo, Shenault flew straight to Philadelphia, where noted surgeon Dr. William My ers on Tuesday performed a bilateral pelvic repair, said Shenault's agent, Damarius Bilbo. Although Shenault was disappointed in his 40 time, Bilbo said Myers told him he was stunned Shenault ran as fast as he did given the injury. Shenault will need abo ut six weeks of rehab and recovery, meaning he'll miss CU's pro day later this month and he won't be able to work out for teams ahead of the April 23-25 NFL draft. Former Green Bay Packers wide receivers coach Alvis Whitted has accepted the same position at Wisconsin. Wisconsin announced Wednesday that Whitted has joined Badgers coach Paul Chryst's staff. The Packers fired Whitted on Jan. 30 after one season. Whitt ed had been Colorado State's wide receivers coach for seven seasons before joining the Packers staff. During Whitted's stint at Colorado State, Rashard Higgins in 2014 and Michael Gallup in 2017 were finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the nation's top college receiver. He played in the NFL from 1998-2006 with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Oakland Raiders. - AP College Football

Two more Kansas State players are in legal trouble after being arrested. Safety Wayne Jones, 19, and linebacker Daniel Green, 21, were arrested together Monday night on a charge of marijuana possession, Riley County police said. Green was also charged wi th driving while suspended, WIBW reported. The players each were released after posting $1,000 bond. Three other Wildcats football players were arrested during the weekend. Freshman running back Jacardia Wright was arrested Sunday morning on an outstandi ng warrant for failing to show proof of insurance. Freshman linebacker DeMarrquese Hayes and sophomore linebacker Nick Allen were arrested separately Saturday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
