2023 ALL-BIG SOUTH-OVC FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION FIRST TEAM: RB - Sam Franklin, R-Soph., UT Martin,...Franklin built upon a strong season in which he was named OVC Freshman of the Year in 2022 by flirting with a historical season. The running back rushed 223 times for 1,378 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season - finishing just 34 yards shy of the program's single-season rushing record. A finalist for the 2023 Walter Payton Award, he ranked second nationally with his 1,378 yards while sitting third in the FC S with 125.3 rushing yards per game. He eclipsed the 100-yard rushing plateau in seven contests - including a pair of 200-yard performances against Missouri State (259 yards) and North Alabama (221 yards). Finding the endzone 11 times - ranking eighth in the program's single-season history - his most electric performance came against Missouri State by tallying a season-high three rushing touchdowns. - UT Martin Football

2022 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM: RB - Sam Franklin, UT Martin,...A native of Little Rock, Ark., Franklin was part of a two-headed rushing attack for UT Martin, spelling first-team All-OVC selection Zak Wallace for a change of pace. Along with being named OVC Freshman of the Year, Franklin ranked fifth in the OVC in total rushing yards (676) despite having almost 25 less carries than any player who ranked ahead of him. He finished the season with 85 rushes to average 8.0 yards/carry, while sc oring eight touchdowns. Franklin also caught 12 passes for 55 yards. A finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, Franklin scored a season-best three touchdowns in a win over Lindenwood while adding two scores and a season-high 157 rushing yards against Murray S tate. SEPT 25 OVC CO-NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Sam Franklin, RB, 5-10, 195, R-Fr., Little Rock, Ark., UT Martin,...Franklin became the eighth player in UT Martin history to tally three rushing touchdowns in a game, scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter and a nother in the fourth in the Skyhawks win over Lindenwood. Franklin was highly efficient by averaging 9.3 yards per carry while scoring touchdowns on runs of three, 16 and 21 yards, respectively.
