 Bhayshul Tuten, Virginia Tech, Player News


  Running back Bhayshul Tuten tweeted Friday night that he has decided to transfer from North Carolina A&T to Virginia Tech. Tuten, who has two years of eligibility left, had tweeted on Dec. 14 that he was entering the transfer portal. He then received offers from Virginia Tech, Boston College, Georgia, Missouri, Kansas State, Pittsburgh and Florida, according to his tweets. He tweeted on Dec. 24 that he had picked Boston College. But he has now flipped to the Hokies. "Change of plans!" he tweeted Friday night. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Tuten rushed for 1,363 yards and 13 touchdowns on 208 carries as a sophomore last fall for North Carolina A&T. He also had 31 catches. He earned FCS third-team All-America honors, as well as All-Big South-first team honors. - Roanoke Times

  2022 ALL-BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM: RB - Bhayshul Tuten, Soph., North Carolina A&T,...Tuten lost the battle for offensive player of the year to Gardner-Webb quarterback Bailey Fisher. Yet, the New Jersey native had a season to remember, and he is still on the Walter Payton Watch List for the best FCS offensive player in the nation. Tuten rushed for 1,363 yards and 13 touchdowns on 208 carries.

It is the fifth-best single-season rushing performance in school history. Tuten broke the school and conference records for consecutive 100-yard games in a season. In addition, he tied the conference record for consecutive 100-yard games regardless of the season and broke the school record for 100-yard games in a season. Tuten also caught 31 passes for 572 yards and four touchdowns, giving 1,705 all-purpose yards and 17 touchdowns on 239 touches. - North Carolina A&T Football

  Bhayshul Tuten scored two touchdowns, Taymon Cooke returned a kickoff for a touchdown, and North Carolina A&T defeated Charleston Southern 20-10 on Saturday. Tuten's 2-yard run gave the Aggies' their first lead, 13-10 in the middle of the third quarter. He also had an 8-yard touchdown catch from Jalen Fowler in the fourth. The Buccaneers took a 7-0 lead on Tony Bartalo's 34-yard pass to Nivon Holland in the second quarter. The lead was short-lived when Cooke returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.

Tuten gained 106 yards on 22 carries for the Aggies (7-3, 4-0 Big South) and Fowler completed 10 of 22 passes for 151 yards. He was intercepted twice. Bartalo was 14-of-31 passing for 162 yards with an interception for the Buccaneers (2-8, 2-3). He was sacked six times. The Aggies' win, their seventh in a row, combined with Gardner-Webb's 42-35 win over Campbell, leaves NC A&T and Gardner-Webb tied for first place in the Big South with one game to go.   OCT 31 BIG SOUTH FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: North Carolina A&T running back Bhayshul Tuten (Paulsboro, N.J.) rushed 30 times for a career-high 256 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Aggies to a 45-38 comeback victory over Campbell. It was the second-most rushing yards in a conference game, and third-highest overall single-game rushing total in Big South history. Tuten's 42-yard touchdown run in the first quarter gave A&T its first points of the day, while his 70-yard TD scamper early in the third quarter cut the Aggies' deficit to 28-16 and jumpstarted the eventual rally. He finished the day with 10 first down rushes, an 8.53 average yards per carry, and five runs of 11 yards or longer. Tuten was also recognized as the Stats Perform FedEx Ground FCS National Offensive Player of the Week for his performance.   OCT 31 FEDEX GROUND FCS NATIONAL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bhayshul Tuten, North Carolina A&T, RB, So., 5-11, 195, Paulsboro, New Jersey,...Tuten set career highs with 30 carries and 256 rushing yards, while scoring on 42- and 70-yard runs, as North Carolina A&T beat Campbell 45-38 in an important Big South game. The rushing yardage set an A&T record for Homecoming Day, extended Tuten's school mark to seven consecutive games over 100 yards and allowed him to surpass 1,000 this season. He also had an eight-yard reception.

  Bhayshul Tuten rushed for three touchdowns and caught another, Jalen Fowler passed for 254 yards and two scores and North Carolina A&T beat Norfolk State 49-24 on Saturday for it sixth straight victory. N.C. A&T started the game with 21 straight points on touchdowns runs of 10 and 33 yards from Tuten and Jacob Roberts' 22-yard pick-6. The Aggies defense intercepted Otto Kuhns three times and backup Jaylan Adams once. Tuten's 6-yard touchdown grab with two seconds left in the first half made it 28-14. He also capped the scoring with 58 seconds left in the fourth as A&T scored 14 points in the final three minutes.   Bhayshul Tuten ran for a career-high 258 yards and two touchdowns and Wesley Graves scored on a 6-yard run in the middle of the fourth quarter as North Carolina A&T rallied to defeat Campbell 45-38 on Saturday. The Aggies (5-3, 3-0 Big South Conference) trailed 28-10 after a wild first quarter but scored on three big plays early in the third quarter. Tuten started it with a 70-yard run on the third snap of the second half. Moments later Jacob Roberts returned an interception 39 yards. And on A&T's next possession Jalen Fowler found Zachary Leslie for a 35-yard touchdown. Campbell (4-4, 2-1) regained the lead with a field goal in the final minute of the third quarter, but two minutes later Fowler and Leslie hooked up for a 77-yard score. The teams swapped touchdowns before the defenses finally took over for the final 8:54. Fowler was 12-of-21 passing for 233 yards as the Aggies piled up 566 yards.   Bhayshul Tuten ran for two touchdowns and Jalen Fowler threw for two more as North Carolina A&T rolled to a 45-7 win over Division II-level Edward Waters Saturday to earn its third win. Tuten sandwiched two short scoring runs around a 28-yard field goal by Andrew Brown to stake the Aggies to a 17-0 after one quarter and took a 31-0 lead into intermission. Edward Waters, an HBCU from Jacksonville, Fla., got on the board in the closing minutes of the third quarter when David Johnson hit Damaris August from seven yards out. Fowler completed 20 of 26 pass attempts for 243 yards to lead NC A&T (3-3). Tuten finished with 103 yards on 14 carries to lead an Aggies ground game that picked up 241 yards on 44 carries.   Bhayshul Tuten ran for 114 yards and two first-quarter touchdowns to carry North Carolina A&T to a 24-13 win over Bryant in the Big South Conference opener Saturday night. After losing its first three games to start the season, North Carolina A&T has won back-to-back games and is in first place in conference play. Bryant (1-4, 0-1) scored 13 straight points to get within a point, 14-13, with 6:41 left in the third quarter, but after the Aggies' Andrew Brown kicked a 37-yard field goal to push the lead to 17-13, they picked off a pair of Zevi Eckhaus passes in the fourth quarter. Jalen Fowler fired a 25-yard touchdown pass to Sterling Berkhalter early in the fourth quarter to set the final margin. Fowler was 11-of-17 passing for 110 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Berkhalter caught five passes for 63 yards. Eckhaus had 213 yards on 19-of-37 passing but was intercepted four times. Landon Ruggieri caught six passes for 110 yards. - AP College Football

  Bhayshul Tuten had 12 carries for 140 yards and two touchdowns and added a 15-yard TD reception to help N.C. A&T beat South Carolina State 41-27 Saturday night. N.C. A&T, which has won seven consecutive games against the Bulldog, snapped a four-game losing streak overall, dating to last season, and avoided their first five-game skid since 2010. Jalen Fowler completed 8 of 14 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions for the Aggies (1-3). Tuten scored on a 19-yard run late in the first quarter and his TD reception with 40 seconds left in the half gave N.C. A&T the lead for good at 14-13. After a false start on the first play of the ensuing drive, S.C. State (1-2) took a knee on three consecutive downs before Amonte Jones returned a punt 11 yards to the Bulldogs 32 with 5 seconds left in the half and Andrew Brown kicked a 49-yard field goal as time expired.

South Carolina State went three-and-out on the opening drive of the second half and a 27-yard punt return by Jones - as well as a personal foul on the Bulldogs - and on the next play from scrimmage Tuten raced 38 yards for a touchdown to make it 24-13. The Bulldogs again went three-and-out before Wesley Graves scored on a 12-yard run to give the Aggies a 31-13 lead with 10 minutes left in the third quarter. Corey Fields Jr. completed 26 of 49 passes for 316 yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions for S.C. State. The Bulldogs finished with 12 yards rushing on 22 carries. N.C. A&T has won seven consecutive games against the Bulldogs.
