Illinois scored on all five of its trips into the red zone, outgained Eastern Illinois 486-196, and had 27 first downs to the Panthers' nine.Four Eastern Illinois turn overs were turned into 24 points by the Illini. Miles Scott caused a fumble and had an interception. It was 31-0 at halftime. Eastern Illinois had a promising opening drive, but Scott forced a fumble by running back Jay Pearson and Seth Coleman recovered on the Illini 23. That turned out to be the Panthers' deepest penetration into Illinois territory until late in the third quarter, when Dylan Rosiek chased down Eastern Illinois receiver DeAirious Smith after a pass completion, Smith fumbled, and Kaleb Patterson recovered on the Illini 13. Altmyer threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Bryant following Coleman's fumble recovery. That came on the play after an Altmyer-to-Zakhari Franklin touchdown pass was ruled incomplete and confirmed by video review after a challenge by Illinois. - AP College Football

Although action doesn't officially start until Monday, among the reported quarterbacks in, or planning to be to enter the transfer portal as of Dec. 1 is Ole Miss Luke Altmyer: He started Game 2 this season, against Central Arkansas, when Lane Kiffin sai d he was trying to sort out who should start. But he hasn't played since Game 3. He played in eight games in two seasons, and accuracy has been a problem (a combined 28-of-54, 51.8 percent). He has three seasons of eligibility remaining. - NFL Draft Scou t and online sources

Mississippi defeated the Bears 59-3 in a dominating performance from all three phases of the game. Quarterback Luke Altmyer got his first college start at quarterback and had a good outing, posting a three-touchdown evening, two through the air and one o n the ground. During the second quarter, he was replaced by Jaxson Dart after he suffered an upper-body injury. Dart took over, and the Rebels didn't skip a beat. There's still no official word on who the starting quarterback will be for the season, as h ead coach Lane Kiffin hasn't given a definitive answer. "We'll go back and look at the film and see what we think," Kiffin said. - Daily Mississippi

Luke Atlmyer and Jaxson Dart are two quarterbacks vying for Ole Miss' starting quarterback job this fall. Altmyer is the sophomore returning quarterback for the Rebels and Dart is an incoming transfer from USC. While the competition is expected to be int ense, Altmyer said he will have fun working alongside Dart, who passed for 1,353 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions for USC. "He's a very nice guy. He's a great player and competitor," Altmyer said while working as a camp counselor at the Mann ing Passing Academy at Nicholls in Thibodaux, Louisiana, on Friday. "Our relationship is very healthy. He's a super cool dude and very selfless and a great teammate."There is obviously a lot of competition and that builds some anxiety that comes w ith it, but I wouldn't want anything but the best for him." The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Altmyer competed in five games for Ole Miss last season, mostly behind starter Matt Corral, who has left for the NFL. Altmyer completed 20 of 37 passes for 192 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in 2021. He played when Corral injured his knee during the Sugar Bowl against Baylor in New Orleans on Jan. 2. He threw for 178 yards and a touchdown and completed 15 of 28 pass attempts in a 21-7 loss. Despite the bowl l oss, Altmyer said the game was valuable. "I've learned so much from that experience," Altmyer said. "It's great having those reps and facing the adversity that comes with it. I still have things to learn, but I'm just going to keep on trying to do my bes t." - The Clarion Ledger

The Red team defeated the Navy team 48-36 in Ole Miss's annual Grove Bowl on Saturday. Leading the way for the Red team was sophomore quarterback Luke Altmyer. Altmyer played a good game, throwing for 182 yards and no interceptions. He also rushed for 77 yards on five attempts and ran in for two touchdowns. Although he did have great numbers on the ground, Altmyer didn't look very sharp through the air, posting just a 41% completion percentage. But, he did show flashes of how accurate he can be when he threw a strike to junior running back Ulysses Bentley IV for a 42 yard gain in the first quarter. "I think I've just gained so much confidence," Altmyer said when asked where he's improved the most since last season. "I think confidence for a quarterback is the biggest asset, and I think last year I lacked a lot of it, just being new and being around a bunch of new guys." On the other side, the Navy team was led by sophomore quarterback Jaxson Dart. Dart didn't have the best game, throwing for 166 yards and two interceptions with a 36% completion percentage, while overthrowing his receivers with the deep ball multiple times in the first half. - Daily Mississippian
