 Davis Brin, Tulsa, Player News

  06/03/22 - QB Davis BrinrSr/2023, Tulsa, 6-2, 208 (DS#57 QB) + More +

With the Hurricane losing their top rusher and two of their top three receivers from last season, they'll be looking for quarterback Davis Brin to take a step forward in his fifth year with the program. Brin saw the first significant action of his career last season, passing for 3,254 yards and 18 touchdowns with a 59.3% completion rate. He also added 75 yards and a score on the ground. He'll need to improve from an efficiency standpoint, however. Brin's 16 interceptions were the most in the FBS last season, with his 132.6 passer rating being the third-worst among quarterbacks with at least 400 pass attempts. - Wyoming Tribune Eagle

Davis Brin passed for 244 yards and a touchdown, three different ball carriers also scored and Tulsa fended off SMU 34-31 in a see-saw game to end the regular season on Saturday. Zack Long kicked field goals of 36 and 27 yards with the latter, coming with 4:06 left in the game, providing just enough to preserve the win. Tulsa (6-6, 5-3 American Athletic Conference) was in a 17-0 hole barely more than a quarter into the contest. The Golden Hurricane rallied with 31 unanswered points into a seemingly comfortable 31-17 lead with 13:30 to go. But SMU (6-4, 4-4) rallied with two fourth-quarter touchdowns, pulling within 34-31 when Tyler Levine crashed into the end zone from the 2 to cap a 69-yard drive with 2:50 left. Tulsa's LJ Wallace recovered the ensuing onside kick and the Golden Hurricane ran the clock. The loss was SMU's first at home this season. Tanner Mordecai, who threw for 298 yards and a touchdown for the Mustangs, set the conference single-season record with 39 TDs. - Tulsa/AP College Football

  08/10/21 - QB Davis BrinrSr/2023, Tulsa, 6-2, 208 (DS#57 QB) + More +

After up-and-down quarterback play the previous four seasons, the University of Tulsa is looking to fourth-year junior Davis Brin to ignite the Hurricane offense. "Davis Brin right now is our starting quarterback," coach Philip Montgomery said this week. "He's a guy that's taken the majority of the reps in the spring. He's also done that throughout the summer in their workouts as well as (in preseason practice)." Brin's career contributions equate to 19 completions in four games. Most notably, he orchestrated last year's comeback victory in overtime against Tulane, leading three fourth-quarter touchdown drives while showing incredible poise.

"I really love the way he handles us offensively," Montgomery said. "He's a guy that understands what we really want to do, makes great decisions, gets the ball out of his hands. We're excited about his leadership and what he's going to bring to the table." Brin has been solid in the early goings of the preseason, leaning on his experience with the first-team offense in the spring and continuing to make strides. "I'm really comfortable and confident," he said. "I feel like we picked up where we left off. We installed a lot and we just picked it up really quick and we are raising the level of execution every day." - Tulsa World

The last time the University of Tulsa played at H.A. Chapman Stadium, Davis Brin put on a show. What happened Saturday was less dramatic than the Nov. 19 comeback against Tulane, but Brin took another step toward the No. 1 quarterback role with a solid outing in the annual spring game. "That (Tulane) game definitely helped me gain some confidence coming into the spring, knowing that a lot of guys have my back," Brin said. "We picked up right where we left off from that game." During a conservatively called scrimmage in front of a small crowd, Brin connected on the first play with JuanCarlos Santana for a 36-yard gain. He finished 13-of-24 passing for 173 yards, showing poise and committing few mistakes. "Obviously there's some things in there that we would like to continue to keep working on, but overall I'm really pleased with his progress," coach Philip Montgomery said. "I'm pleased with the chemistry he has right now with our receivers and he's seeing the field well. We still have work to do, but I like where he's at right now." - Tulsa World
