  08/27/22 - WR Ricky WhiterSr/2025, UNLV, 6-1, 190 (DS#8 WR) + More +

Doug Brumfield threw four touchdown passes, all in the first half, UNLV scored 35 points in the second quarter and the Rebels defeated Idaho State 52-21 in a season-opener on Saturday. Brumfield completed 21 of 25 passes for 356 yards with a QB rating of 256.4. Ricky White scored two first-half receiving touchdowns and his 182 receiving yards in the first half were the 11th highest single-game total in UNLV history. Brumfield and White hooked up for a 72-yard UNLV score in the second quarter. The pair sat out the second half. Among Idaho State's three touchdowns, the big play was a 55-yard pass from Tyler Vander Waal to Jalen Johnson in the first quarter. UNLV finished with 552 total yards - 405 passing. Both teams had five sacks. UNLV's 45 points in the first half were the second-most in program history, behind the 52 points scored against Idaho State in 2015. UNLV won that game 80-8. - AP College Football/UNLV Football

The star of Michigan State football's biggest win last season is not currently with the team. Coach Mel Tucker on Tuesday said redshirt freshman Ricky White and freshman defensive back Michael Gravely "are not participating in team activities at this point." Tucker did not elaborate on why. While both players remain on the roster, neither was on the field at Monday night's "Meet the Spartans" event and have not been spotted during open portions of preseason camp or during the April 24 open spring practice. White, a 6-foot-1 and 185-pound wide receiver, played 166 snaps in four games with three starts last season, finishing with 10 catches for 223 yards and a touchdown. Eight of his catches went for a first down or a TD. - Lansing State Journal

Rocky to Ricky. Over and over. A star was born. A quarterback validated. And Michigan State football pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the 113-game rivalry against Michigan, a 27-24 victory Saturday that Rocky Lombardi and Ricky White dominated from start to finish. White, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound true freshman from Marietta, Georgia, caught eight passes for 196 yards, the seventh-highest single-game total in MSU history, and the second-most against the Wolverines behind Plaxico Burress' 255 yards in 1999. "First, I just want to give huge credit to Rocky," White said. "He played an awesome game today, he made some great passes. All week at practice, it's been getting prepared for this game." White set an MSU freshman record, smashing the 165 yards by Cody White against Northwestern in 2017.

Ricky White - stepping into the starting lineup for an injured Tre Mosley - became an unstoppable force against No. 14 Michigan's secondary. He and Lombardi stretched the field all afternoon, starting with a 30-yard touchdown that put the Spartans on the board just over four minutes into the game. "He's done a good job in practice," said first-year coach Mel Tucker, who scouted White while at Colorado and inherited him as part of Mark Dantonio's final recruiting class. "I remember him in high school. We saw him as a player and thought that he was an outstanding player. Guys that step on the field on game day, they step on the field because of what they've done in practice. And so we've seen him make plays. We were not surprised." - Lansing State Journal
