  01/08/23 - DE Darian VarnerrJr/2025, Wisconsin, 6-2, 278 (DS#6 DE) + More +

Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell noted last month that one unit in need of more bodies was the defensive line. UW moved closer to adding another prospect on Thursday when Temple's Darian Varner announced he planned to join the Badgers. Varner, 6-foot-2 and 260 pounds, has two seasons of eligibility remaining. A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Varner last month announced he planned to transfer to Virginia Tech. UW's coaches were able to change his mind.

Varner played in 10 of 12 games this past season, missing the final two games because of a foot injury. He finished with 7 1/2 sacks and 12 1/2 tackles for losses, both the No. 2 mark on the team, and 35 total tackles and was named first-team all-American Athletic Conference. Varner redshirted in 2020 and recorded a combined three sacks and seven tackles for loss in 11 games in 2021. UW must replace nose tackle Keeanu Benton, who led the unit in sacks (4 ½), tackles for loss (10) and total tackles (35). - Journal Sentinel

  12/16/22 - DE Darian VarnerrJr/2025, Wisconsin, 6-2, 278 (DS#6 DE) + More +

2022 ALL-AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM: DL Darian Varner, Temple, So.,...Varner was named to the All-AAC First Team. He is the first Temple player to garner first-team all-conference honors since Shaun Bradley, Matt Hennessy, Ifeanyi Maijeh, and Quincy Roche in 2019. The single-digit sophomore was one of the leaders of the Owls' defense this season. He finished second on the team in sacks with 7.5 and TFLs with 12.5. His career-high 3.5 sacks vs. Tulsa fell just shy of the single-game Temple record of 4.0 set by Dan Klecko in 2002. His 0.75 sacks per game were tied for second in the conference with fellow teammate Layton Jordan, while his 1.25 TFLs per game ranked fourth in the AAC at seasons end. - Temple Football
