2022 ALL-CAA FOOTBALL THIRD TEAM: Jalen Hampton, Elon, RB, Fr.,...Redshirt freshman running back Jalen Hampton made an immediate impact in his first season with Elon, rushing for 1,023 yards during the regular season. He became Elon's first 1,000-yard ba ck since 2004 by being a consistent factor, rushing for at least 80 yards in eight of the 10 games he played, including each of the final five contests. He went over 100 yards rushing four times, posting 159 against Gardner-Webb, 145 at William & Mary, 1 36 against Delaware, and a career-best 177 at Hampton to close the regular season. Elon went 5-0 when he ran for at least 90 yards in a game, and he twice scored three touchdowns in one contest. - Elon Football

Matthew McKay went 16-of-19 passing for 199 yards and two touchdowns, Jalen Hampton ran for 177 yards and three touchdowns and Elon beat Hampton 38-24 on Saturday to conclude its regular season. Elon's eight wins and six conference victories (8-3, 6-2 Co lonial Athletic Association) ties for the most in the program since 2017. Hampton scored rushing touchdowns on each of Elon's first two drives and McKay added a 3-yard scoring pass to Johncarlos Miller II on the next possession. Elon led 21-17 at the hal f.Omar Rogers made interceptions on the first two Hampton possessions of the second half and the Phoenix took a 31-17 lead into the fourth quarter. McKay found Jackson Parham for a 9-yard TD and Skyler Davis made a 26-yard field goal to build the lead. The Pirates got back within a touchdown late in the fourth quarter but Hampton scored from 8 yards out for his third TD of the game. Jalen Hampton rushed for two touchdowns, Skyler Davis made his fifth field goal of the season from 50-plus yards and Elon beat Albany 27-3 on Saturday. Hampton opened the scoring with a 16-yard run and Malik Griffin had a 36-yarder early in the second qu arter. Hampton added a 5-yard TD run in the second quarter and Davis kicked a 52-yard field goal for a 24-3 at halftime. Davis added a 23-yard make in the fourth. Davis, who set a school record last week on a 53-yarder, increased his season total to 10 m akes of 40 yards or more. Matthew McKay was 16 of 24 for 132 yards passing with no touchdowns or interceptions for Elon (7-3, 5-2). Jackson Parham caught seven passes for 82 yards. Reese Poffenbarger threw for 161 yards with an interception for Albany (2 -7, 1-5). Todd Sibley carried it 20 times for 111 yards. - Elon/AP College Football

Jalen Hampton rushed for a 11-yard touchdown in the second overtime and Elon beat Richmond 30-27 on Saturday. Elon kicker Skyler Davis forced overtime with a 42-yard field goal with 37 seconds left in regulation. Then Elon scored on the first play of ove rtime when Matthew McKay threw it across the field to a wide open Johncarlos Miller II. Richmond answered with a 19-yard score from Reece Udinski to Jakob Herres. Jake Larson put Richmond ahead in the second overtime with a 47-yard field goal before Hamp ton's run up the middle. McKay passed for 322 yards and three touchdowns for Elon (4-1, 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association). Hampton rushed 15 times for 93 yards and a score. Bryson Daughtry caught four passes for 134 yards and a TD. Udinski attempted 58 passes for Richmond (3-2, 1-1). He completed 42 for 383 yards and two touchdowns. Jalen Hampton ran for two of his three touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Elon erased a 15-point deficit after three quarters to earn a 35-31 win over William & Mary in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both schools Saturday. Both teams came into the game with 3-0 records. Darius Wilson threw all three of his touchdown passes in the first half as the Tribe took a 28-10 lead into intermission. Matthew McKay hit Bryson Daughtry from 18 yards out with 5:06 left in the third quarter to pull the Phoenix within two scores, 28-16, but William & Mary answered with a 46-yard field goal by Ethan Chang with 2:53 left to make it 31-16.Hampton capped a 10-play, 63-yard drive with a 2-yard plunge to make it 31-23 and D.J. Moyer wedged in from the 1 with 4:43 left to make it 31-29, but the Phoenix could not connect on a 2-point pass attempt to tie the score. After Elon forced a three-and-out, it marched 84 yards in seven plays, taking the lead on Hampton's 15-yard run with 1:07 left. Hampton finis hed with 145 yards on 28 carries to lead Elon (3-1, 1-0). McKay was 16-of-28 passing for 207 yards and a touchdown and ran 14 times for 85 yards.
