ZeVian Capers, Transfer, Player News

A sixth Auburn player has decided to leave the team and transfer at the end of the season. Ze'Vian Capers, a former four-star wide receiver who is in his third year on the Plains, announced Tuesday morning that he plans to enter the transfer portal Dec. 5, when the fall transfer window opens. Capers is the first player to announce a decision to transfer in the wake of Bryan Harsin's firing. Capers was rated as the No. 132 overall player in the 2020 class and the 24th-best receiver in the nation coming o ut of Denmark High in Alpharetta, Ga. The former blue-chip prospect appeared in 23 games during his three seasons at Auburn, but after seeing the field in 10 games each of his first two years, he made an appearance in just three games this season: agains t Mercer and LSU at home, and on the road against Georgia. He has just one 16-yard reception this season, which came in the road loss to the Bulldogs. During his time on the Plains, the 6-foot-4, 192-pounder caught 14 passes for 147 yards and a tou chdown. Capers is the 16th former four-star prospect from the last three recruiting cycles to leave the program and the third wide receiver to leave the team in the last week. Landen King and Tar'Varish Dawson Jr. announced their plans to transfer last w eek. That trio joins defensive lineman Zykeivous Walker, defensive back A.D. Diamond and wide receiver J.J. Evans as players who have made clear this fall their intent to enter the transfer portal at the end of the season. - Birmingham News

Auburn's wide receiver corps will be one of the more intriguing groups to watch in fall camp, given what the Tigers lost from last year's roster, what they bring back and what they've added to the room. Shedrick Jackson may be the most proven of the bunc h, given his years of experience and that he's the team's leading returning receiver, but last year was his first truly impactful season on the Plains. The Tigers also bring back Ja'Varrius Johnson, who started a handful of games last season but has seen his first few years hampered by injuries, as well as Malcolm Johnson Jr., who also earned a handful of starts in 2021 and has shown glimpses of being a downfield playmaker but just doesn't have a lot of in-game experience.Auburn also returns a ha ndful of other players from last season, including Tar'Varish Dawson Jr., who earned a starting job in fall camp a year ago but never saw the field after a preseason setback. He has been a different player this offseason, according to Harsin, and could c arve out a role in the passing game this fall if he continues his upward trajectory. Ze'Vian Capers is another returning option who has progressed and could emerge as that bigger, longer target Auburn has lacked in the passing game. - Birmingham News

Auburn freshman receiver Ze'Vian Capers underwent surgery Tuesday morning after sustaining a left foot injury during last week's Citrus Bowl. Capers announced on Twitter that the surgery was a "success" and that "it's time to attack rehab and get back on the field." A timeline for Capers' return is unclear at this time. The 6-foot-4 freshman out of Alpharetta, Ga., sustained an injury to left foot during Auburn's 35-19 loss to Northwestern in last Friday's Citrus Bowl. - Birmingham News
