  12/14/22 - RB *Tank BigsbyJr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 215 (DS#8 RB) + More +

Tank Bigsby has made it official: He's going pro. Bigsby, Auburn's leading rusher the past three seasons, declared for the NFL Draft on his personal Instagram account. "My dreams came true when Coach Malzahn and his staff offered me the opportunity to become an Auburn student-athlete," Bigsby said in his Instagram post. "I'll forever be appreciative for Coach (Cadillac) "Lac" Williams' leadership and him believing in me and my capabilities. (I) valued the opportunity to run out of the tunnel and play in game environments at Jordan-Hare Stadium that was absolutely electrifying that words can't describe. "I would also like to give a special thank you to all the support staff at the facility, athletic trainers, equipment mangers, from the cooks to the janitors, you all played a key role in my development.

"Shoutout to the Auburn nation and fans for your continuous support throughout my (three) years at Auburn. … After much prayer and discussion with my family, I've decided to forgo my senior season and declare for the 2023 NFL Draft." Bigsby leaves the program as one of the most prolific running backs in its history. He's seventh in career rush yards (2,903), sixth in career rush attempts, (540), ninth in career rush yards per game (82.9) and eights in career rushing touchdowns (25). He was also 11th in program history in rush yards per attempt (5.4) and had 13 career 100-yard games. - Opelika-Auburn News

Auburn running back Tank Bigsby posted his intention to enter the 2023 National Football League Draft on Monday via his Instagram account. "My dreams came true when Coach (Gus) Malzahn and his staff offered me the opportunity to become an Auburn student-athlete," Bigsby wrote. "I'll forever be appreciative for coach 'Lac' Williams leadership and him believing in me and my capabilities."

Bigsby finished the 2022 season with 970 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 5.42 yards per carry. He rushed for 2,821 yards during three seasons on the Plains, seventh on Auburn's list for running backs. He also caught 30 passes for 180 yards. The 6-foot, 213-pound junior had his best game of the season in a loss against Ole Miss. Bigsby rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns on 8.95 yards per carry. Bigbsy had 13 career 100-yard rushing games and 25 touchdowns at Auburn. - Birmingham News

Tank Bigsby and Jarquez Hunter combined for 229 rushing yards and four total touchdowns as Auburn defeated Western Kentucky 41-17 on Saturday afternoon. After Western Kentucky generated 290 yards and 17 points in the first half, Auburn's defense held the pass-happy Hilltoppers to 105 yards and allowed zero points after halftime. Bigsby and Hunter both scored long rushing touchdowns, and D.J. James returned an interception 25 yards to cap 24 unanswered points for the Tigers in the second half.

Auburn (5-6, 2-5 Southeastern Conference) has now won back-to-back games under interim head coach Carnell Williams as it heads into its annual Iron Bowl matchup with rival Alabama. Western Kentucky (7-5, 5-2 Conference USA), which has won four games against SEC opponents since 2012, was unable to carry a strong second quarter of offense into the second half. Hilltoppers quarterback Austin Reed had 290 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss. - Auburn/AP College Football

Jarquez Hunter and Tank Bigsby each rushed for 121 yards and Auburn held on for a 13-10 victory over Texas A&M Saturday night, in a battle of teams tied for last in their division. Colby Wooden's fourth-quarter strip-sack set up the decisive field goal by freshman Alex McPherson for the Tigers (4-6, 2-5 Southeastern Conference), who got their first win in two tries under interim coach Carnell Williams. Auburn and the Aggies (3-7, 1-6) had been bringing up the rear in the Western Division and both had lost five straight. The offensive woes continued, especially for Texas A&M - until the final drive. Freshman Conner Weigman and tailback Amari Daniels quickly moved the Aggies down the field. Weigman completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Preston with 1:33 left and Daniels had a 27-yard run. But Auburn recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock to end its losing streak, which had been the final straw in coach Bryan Harsin's tenure. Before that drive, Texas A&M had just 5 total yards in the second half. The Aggies finished with 215 yards and were without leading rusher Devon Achane, who was wearing a boot on his left foot.

McPherson, who made his first career start in place of an injured Anders Carlson, made a 26-yarder with 3:02 left. Quarterback Robby Ashford led a celebration with fans afterward and players emptied a cooler of sports drink on Williams. Weigman, a five-star recruit, made his second start in three games but couldn't duplicate his 338-yard, four-touchdown performance against Mississippi. He was 14-of-36 passing for 121 yards and had 13 consecutive incompletions in the second half. Weigman missed the Florida game with an illness. Ashford only passed for 60 yards and one touchdown, while throwing two interceptions. He ran for 47 yards. - Auburn/AP College Football

T.J. Finley, Jarquez Hunter and Tank Bigsby rushed for touchdowns and Auburn held on to beat San Jose State 24-16 on Saturday night. The Tigers (2-0) scored three times in the second half after the Spartans (1-1) took a 10-7 lead into halftime. Auburn struggled to hold off the more than three-touchdown underdogs, who added a late field goal to stay alive. The onside kick attempt went out of bounds untouched to end the threat. The Tigers couldn't feel at all comfortable until Finley barreled in for a 4-yard touchdown and a 24-13 lead early in the fourth. He set it up with a 24-yard pass to Ja'Varrius Johnson. But Auburn's platooning of quarterbacks Finley and Ashford continued to produce inconsistent results - and an interception apiece.

Finley completed 13 of 20 passes for 167 yards. Ashford's three atttempts netted only a 1-yard completion but he did run for a 30-yard gain and 61 yards. San Jose State's Chevan Cordeiro was 24-of-40 passing for 275 yards and set up a field goal in the closing minutes. Charles Ross caught five passes for 89 yards. Auburn's first two touchdown drives were kept alive by fourth-down conversions, including one where Finley salvaged a botched snap. He dropped the ball, picked it up and hit Bigsby in the flat for an 11-yarder. Bigsby then plunged into the end zone for a 1-yard score early in the third quarter. Spartans coach Brent Brennan was trying to pull off another SEC upset. San Jose State beat Arkansas 31-24 in 2019 in his only other attempt. San Jose State went into the locker room with a halftime lead thanks to Kairee Robinson's 1-yard touchdown in the final minute. Hunter had scored on a 7-yarder for Auburn. - Auburn/AP College Football

Tank Bigsby ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns and Auburn opened its season with a 42-16 home win over FCS opponent Mercer on Saturday night. Bigsby was one of nine players who recorded a carry for the Tigers, who generated 285 of their 497 total yards on the ground. Jarquez Hunter scored three rushing touchdowns, while backup quarterback Robby Ashford generated 168 total yards as he split time with starter T.J. Finley. At the 1:33 mark of the third quarter, the game was delayed for an hour and 27 minutes due to lightning. Bigsby scored from 39 yards out on the first play after the delay. Finley finished 9-for-14 passing for 112 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Ashford took over at quarterback midway through the third quarter after Finley's second interception. Mercer (1-1) had only 101 yards of offense in the first half but found late success after the delay. Fred Payton finished 21 for 36 passing for 197 yards and two touchdowns, both of which went to Devron Harper. - Auburn/AP College Football

Auburn will start Year 2 of the Bryan Harsin era unranked in both major polls. A week after failing to crack the top-25 of the coaches poll, Auburn also found itself on the outside looking in of the preseason AP poll released Monday. Six SEC teams were ranked in the preseason AP poll, led by Alabama at No. 1 and defending national champion Georgia at No. 3. Texas A&M (No. 6), Arkansas (No. 19), Kentucky (No. 20) and Ole Miss (No. 21) were also ranked. Auburn was 11th among "other receiving votes," ostensibly placing the Tigers at No. 36 in the country entering the season. In all, nine SEC teams received more votes than Auburn, with Tennessee, LSU and Mississippi State ahead of Auburn among those outside the top-25. It's the second straight year that Auburn, which is coming of a 6-7 campaign in Harsin's debut season, has been unranked in the preseason AP poll. It's the first time since the 2001-02 seasons that the Tigers have been unranked in consecutive preseason polls. - Birmingham News

2022 PRESEASON PAUL HORNUNG AWARD WATCH LIST: Tank Bigsby, Auburn,...Bigsby led Auburn last season with 1,099 yards rushing on 223 carries, averaging 4.93 yards per carry. He scored touchdowns on the ground and posted five 100-yard rushing games. He also caught 21 passes for 184 yards - sixth most on the team. It's the third watch list for Bigsby this offseason. He was previously selected to the Doak Walker Award Watch List and the Maxwell Award Watch List. The junior was also a First Team selection on the 2022 Media Days All-SEC Team. Bigsby has now been on the Hornung Award Watch List each of the last two years. Prior to him, Auburn has had Noah Igbinoghene (2019), Kerryon Johnson (2017) and Rudy Ford (2016) make the watch list. All three players went on to get drafted in the NFL. - Auburn Football

There's no position group more pivotal to Auburn's success in 2022 than the running backs. With uncertainty at quarterback, the Tigers need Bigsby and Hunter to produce in a big way. Bigsby has stepped up in leadership during the offseason as Harsin told reporters last week in Atlanta during SEC Media Days. "I think Tank's one of our most improved guys just as far as the leadership piece. He's a guy that has really taken it upon himself to make sure he's ready every single day," Harsin said. He's pushed himself, he works, he does extra outside the stuff that we do. I think you guys may have seen some of the videos he'll post, but every day-he's come to work every single day; he studies, he's prepared." If Bigsby and Hunter stay healthy with an improved offensive line there's an opportunity for the Tigers to exceed expectations in Harsin's second season as the Tigers' head coach. If the running backs languish Harsin might see his tenure end much sooner than he'd like. - Birmingham News

Tank Bigsby has been Auburn's best offensive weapon during each of his first two seasons on the Plains. Now, heading into Year 3, Bigsby finds himself as the fulcrum of Auburn's revamped offense - and at No. 2 in AL.com's countdown of the 10 most valuable Auburn players heading into the season. The 6-foot, 213-pound running back is expected to be the focal point of Auburn's offense this season - the foundation upon which first-year offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau's system is built - as he tries to build off his 1,000-yard campaign in 2021. Bigsby has been as-advertised during his first two seasons at Auburn, first rushing for 834 (while averaging 6.05 yards per carry) while being named the SEC Freshman of the Year during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, then following it up with 1,099 yards and 10 touchdowns (on 4.93 yards per carry) last fall.

Bigsby became the first Auburn running back to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark in a season since Kerryon Johnson in 2017, and now he'll have a chance to be the first Tigers running back since Tre Mason in 2012-13 to post back-to-back such seasons. More than just replicating his success from the last two years, though, Bigsby will be counted on as a key component of Auburn's run-first philosophy, as Kiesau and second-year head coach Bryan Harsin try to optimize the junior's elite-level skillset and build the Tigers' offense around him. - Birmingham News

A month out from the start of Auburn football's fall camp, and preseason accolades and outlooks have already begun to roll in. In June, both Athlon and Phil Steele named multiple Tigers to their preseason All-SEC teams. Auburn had nine players on the Athlon preseason All-SEC teams, with running back Tank Bigsby and defensive lineman Derick Hall named first team All-SEC. Bigsby is coming off a sophomore season in which he rushed for 1,099 yards, leading Auburn in that category and posting the fourth-most rush yards in the SEC.

He also had the eighth-most all-purpose yards in the conference with 1,286. "I'm looking for big things out of Tank," Auburn running backs coach Cadillac Williams said of Bigsby during spring practices. "The kid has had a really good spring. He's working hard. His practice habits are getting a lot better. He slowly but surely is starting to get the whole, big picture." With Auburn losing two of its top three receivers from a season ago in Kobe Hudson and Demetris Robinson, as well as trying to replace former starting quarterback Bo Nix, it's largely expected that the Tigers will emphasize the run this year and that Bigsby will take a larger role in the offense. "I can do a lot of things," Bigsby said following Auburn's A-Day game. "Coach Harsin's got me everywhere. You know, got me in the slot receiver, running back- he's got me just doing everything. He wants to get me the ball in the open field and do what I have to do." - Opelika-Auburn News

In an offense that will see many changes from the 2021 season, the Auburn Tigers will be relying on running back Tank Bigsby to be the anchor. After leading the team in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns last season, it appears that Bigsby is poised for another great season. The folks at On3 also have high expectations for Bigsby, as they have ranked him as the no. 7 running back on their Impact 300 list. On3's Nikki Chavanelle explains that the Impact 300 list ranks the best players in college football entering the 2022 season, and factors in each player's NIL value. Here's why On3 is high on Bigsby heading into the 2022 season: Tank Bigsby broke 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in his career last season and will likely do it again for Auburn in 2022. On top of 1,099 rushing yards, he had 10 scores and 184 yards receiving. Bigsby's NIL value is $546,000 ahead of the 2022 season. - On3.com

Auburn's marquee nonconference matchup for the 2022 season is set for an afternoon kickoff at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn will host Penn State on Sept. 17 on the Plains for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on CBS, the network announced Wednesday. The game will mark the first SEC on CBS broadcast of the season. The Penn State game is the first game on Auburn's 2022 schedule to have a set kickoff time and television network announced. The Tigers open the season Sept. 3 at home against Mercer and then host San Jose State in Week 2 before welcoming Penn State to Jordan-Hare Stadium.

The Nittany Lions' trip to the Plains will cap a home-and-home series between the two programs. Penn State hosted Auburn at Beaver Stadium last September in the Tigers' first-ever trip to University Park, Penn. The Nittany Lions won that matchup, 28-20, in their annual White Out game. This year's matchup will mark the fourth all-time between Auburn and Penn State, and it will be the first in the series played at Jordan-Hare Stadium. - Birmingham News

Buzz surrounded Auburn's Tank Bigsby all spring. The running back is coming off his first 1,000-yard rushing season on the Plains, and he's expected to be the main cog in Auburn's offense this fall. Running backs coach Cadillac Williams is looking for "big things" from the junior. Offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau sees Bigsby being at the "forefront" of the offense, and Bryan Harsin echoed those thoughts earlier in the spring. With all that, Bigsby said following Auburn's A-Day game on April 9 that he's feeling "no extra pressure" heading into the fall. After posting a team-leading 856 rush yards and five scores as a freshman, Bigsby took another leap as a sophomore, posting 1,099 yards and 10 touchdowns.

And while the feature back will be expected to once again carry the load on the ground, it's possible he'll be bringing a new dynamic to Kiesau's offense. "Coach Harsin's got me everywhere," Bigbsy said. "[He's] got me in the slot receiver, running back - he got me just doing everything. He wants to get me the ball in the open field and do what I have to do." People are also reading...Bigsby is no stranger to big plays. In 23 games at Auburn, he's recorded at least one carry of 20-plus yards in 11 of them. However, Bigsby didn't line up in the slot last season, and turning him into a pass-catching threat from a receiver position would add a new aspect to his game. In two seasons, Bigsby has totaled 268 yards on 32 receptions, with 184 of those yards coming a season ago. - Opelika-Auburn News

Tank Bigsby, who picked up first-team recognition at running back and a second-team nod in the all-purpose slot, led the group of nine Tigers to land on the preseason coaches All-SEC teams that were announced Tuesday afternoon. Auburn's nine selections are third-most in the conference, behind Alabama's 13 and Georgia's 11. Bigsby was Auburn's lone first-team representative, while center Nick Brahms, linebacker Zakoby McClain, safety Smoke Monday and kicker Anders Carlson were all named to the second-team. - Birmingham News

Tank Bigsby's first season of college football was one for the books. The gem of Auburn's 2020 signing class put together a masterful debut campaign, rushing for 834 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games, averaging 6.01 yards per carry. It was one of the best freshman seasons for a running back in Auburn history, trailing only Michael Dyer's 1,093-yard season in 2010. The accolades rolled in for Bigsby last season. He was the SEC Freshman of the Year and made first-team SEC All-Freshman team. He made second-team All-SEC, and some outlets offered him a nod on their All-America teams.

The expectation is that Bigsby is just getting started. "Tank, he's a really, really good football player, and he has improved way - like, what y'all seen last year, he was still a freshman," fellow running back Shaun Shivers said. "But now, he grew up. He's looking way better than he looked last year." Bigsby enters his sophomore season regarded as one of the top running backs in all of college football. He was named to the preseason All-SEC first team, and he landed on the preseason watch lists for four different national awards: the Doak Walker Award, which goes to the nation's top running back; the Paul Hornung Away, which goes to the most versatile player in college football; and the Walter Camp Award and Maxwell Award, both of which go to the best player in the country. - Birmingham News

Seven Auburn players were named to preseason watch lists for 13 different national college football awards over the last 12 days as the 2021 season inches closer and closer. Leading the way among preseason nominees was running back Tank Bigsby, who landed on four different watch lists. The sophomore, who last week picked up preseason first-team All-SEC honors, was named to the watch lists for the Doak Walker Award for nation's top running back, the Hornung Award for nation's most versatile player, Walter Camp Award for player of the year and Maxwell Award for player of the year. Auburn quarterback Bo Nix was also named to the Maxwell Award watch list. Bigsby is coming off an impressive freshman campaign in which he rushed for 834 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 6.04 yards per carry and added another 306 yards on kickoff returns. He is widely regarded as one of the top running backs in college football entering his sophomore season. - Birmingham News

Auburn fans know Tank Bigsby has the potential to be a star. The word's getting out among the SEC media. Bigsby and veteran center Nick Brahms both earned first-team honors among the preseason All-SEC picks made by the media this week at SEC Media Days, leading the 10 Auburn selections. Linebacker Zakoby McClain and defensive back Smoke Monday were both named second-team picks. Bigsby was also listed as a second-team all-purpose pick. Auburn landed five third-team selections, namely Bo Nix on offense, Derick Hall, Owen Pappoe and Roger McCreary on defense, and kicker Anders Carlson on special teams. Rival Alabama led the way in preseason All-SEC voting with 16 representatives making the team, including eight on the first-team. Auburn tied Georgia for the second-most total selections with 10. Texas A&M had seven. - Opelika-Auburn News

Auburn running back Tank Bigsby made a name for himself by running hard last fall. With his sophomore season on the horizon, he doesn't have interest in letting up, either. Bigsby was asked on March 19 whether or not he would consider running out of bounds more to preserve his health. Bigsby made it clear that's not an option. "I was always taught once you make 'em feel you they don't want to feel you no more, for real," Bigsby said. "You have to be physical at running back. I don't think I'll go out of bounds." - Opelika-Auburn News

Cadillac Williams often talks to Tank Bigsby about legacy. Specifically, the legacy of his position at Auburn, where great running backs have been aplenty throughout the years. Williams, himself a former All-America running back at Auburn, reminds Bigsby of the names of those who came before him - running backs like Bo Jackson, Ronnie Brown, Joe Cribbs, James Brooks, Ben Tate, Tre Mason and Kerryon Johnson, among others; the list is staggering. Then Williams likes to challenge his protégé to do what it takes to add his name to that list. "Of course, I want to be the next, and I just hold myself to a high accountability," Bigsby said. That's the opportunity facing Bigsby after a breakout freshman campaign at Auburn last season. The former four-star prospect rushed for 834 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games in 2020, averaging 6.04 yards per carry while cementing himself as Auburn's RB1 and taking home SEC Freshman of the Year honors. - Birmingham News

The Tigers' run game was hindered from the get-go, as leading rusher Tank Bigsby attempted to play through the hip injury he sustained in the first quarter of last week's win against Tennessee but was clearly not at 100 percent. The Tigers also had a new-look offensive line, with Austin Troxell in for an injured Alec Jackson at left tackle, while right tackle Brodarious Hamm tried to play through a left knee injury but was subbed out after halftime. Bigsby, who entered the game as the fourth-leading rusher among all FBS freshmen this year, was limited to just 39 yards on 11 carries, including just 7 yards on four first-quarter carries. "Obviously, you can see Tank, he's not close to 100 percent," Malzahn said.

Bigsby's first-quarter rushing numbers were emblematic of the Tigers' overall struggles establishing the run against the Tide. Auburn had just 27 rushing yards in the opening period, averaging 2.7 yards per carry as the offense totaled just 45 yards and failed to sustain drives while regularly finding itself in third-and-long situations. It didn't get much better from there, with Auburn rushing for 30 yards on 10 second-quarter attempts and then minus-4 yards in the third quarter, when Alabama effectively put the game away. By then, Bigsby's day was done. - Birmingham News

A trio of Auburn offensive starters are questionable for the Iron Bowl after sustaining injuries during the Tigers' 30-17 win against Tennessee. Running back Tank Bigsby, right tackle Brodarious Hamm and left tackle Alec Jackson all left Saturday's win against the Vols with various injuries, the extent of which were not disclosed by head coach Gus Malzahn. Auburn's eighth-year coach did, however, say that all three are currently "questionable" for next weekend's trip to Tuscaloosa to take on top-ranked Alabama. "All three of those guys couldn't really finish the game," Malzahn said. "All three of them, at this point, I'll say will be questionable. That's probably the best way to put it. We'll see as the week goes on as they progress." No. 22 Auburn (5-2) will face No. 1 Alabama (7-0) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Bryant-Denny Stadium, with the game airing on CBS. Bigsby, who has emerged as Auburn's top running back, left the Tennessee game early on after sustaining a hip injury on the Tigers' opening drive. - Birmingham News

Although Auburn topped Tennessee on Saturday night, the Tigers suffered a few significant setbacks along the way. The Tigers had some key players leave the victory over the Volunteers early due to injury, including true freshman running back Tank Bigsby along with junior right tackle Brodarious Hamm. Their status going forward will be crucial points of interest for Auburn with the Tigers' Iron Bowl matchup with Alabama coming next Saturday. Bigsby suffered an apparent hip injury early in the first quarter of the Tigers' game with Tennessee and wound up being limited the rest of the game.

After starting the game with a pair of carries, Bigsby only had one more carry in the second quarter before exiting the game for good. Bigsby ended the night with three carries for 24 yards. Malzahn explained during the postgame interviews he wasn't sure what Bigsby's status was going into the Iron Bowl week. "I think he tried to come back in for one play and he had to go back out. We'll have to see," Malzahn said. "We had a few injuries that took people out of the game, so we'll have to see where we're at here in just a little bit." - Opelika-Auburn News

Auburn true freshman running back Tank Bigsby has been nothing short of impressive since his first start in his second college football game. As a result, Bigsby's name has earned recognition for one of the nation's top awards. Bigsby is one of several college football players who were added to the Maxwell Award watch list, the Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday. The award has been given annually to the outstanding collegiate football player in America since 1937; LSU quarterback Joe Burrow taking home the trophy in 2019.

The 6-foot, 204-pound Bigsby arrived in Auburn as a four-star recruit and wasted little time in proving he was well worth the hype. He started in Auburn's second game against Georgia and has not looked back since, rushing for 503 yards and five touchdowns while also reeling 11 receptions for 84 yards. He's also shown himself to be a dangerous return man, taking 13 returns for 306 yards and having a would-be touchdown against Ole Miss that was taken off the board due to a penalty. Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn spoke highly of Bigsby's play after the Tigers' 48-11 victory over LSU, a game in which Bigsby led the way with 15 carries for 71 yards and two touchdowns. - Opelika-Auburn News

Bigsby has been a revelation in his first year at Auburn, and his showing against the Gamecocks only added to it. He has been otherworldly when it comes to breaking tackles, and according to Sports Info Solutions he has forced a FBS-leading 9.5 missed tackles per 25 carries. Malzahn credited Bigsby for another hard-fought game, adding that he ran with an attitude in eclipsing 100 rushing yards for the second straight week. That achievement was no small feat by the freshman, and it has quickly pushed him to the front of Auburn's stable of running backs and given Malzahn the confidence that he'll be a factor moving forward.

Bigsby didn't catch a pass against South Carolina after impressing as a receiving threat against Georgia and Arkansas, but that didn't leave teammate Eli Stove any less impressed. "I think he's been doing real good since the Georgia game, really. I've seen a lot of potential in him," Stove said. "I've seen he's a hard runner. He's a competitor, too. We've got to feed him. We've got to feed him and get him in the end zone for sure." Bigsby carried the brunt of the load for Auburn at running back against Georgia and Arkansas, but that doesn't have to be the case going forward. Sophomore D.J. Williams played well in the Arkansas victory and averaged 4.25 yards per carry in limited action against the Gamecocks despite still not being 100 percent per Malzahn. Along with Williams, junior running back Shaun Shivers could be back this week to finally provide some much-needed depth. - Opelika-Auburn News

Tank Bigsby forced 14 missed tackles against Arkansas. "He's very determined," Shaquanna Bigsby said. "Tank is the type of person, even growing up, if there's something that he loves, he wants to complete it. He wants to go ahead and do it until he masters it - whether it's a sport, whether it's his grades, regardless what it is, if it's something that he cares about and enjoys doing it, he's going to make the best out of it. He's always been that way since a kid." That's a trait he inherited from his parents, both of whom share that same desire to master something and "get the job done" when they set their sights on a goal or task at hand. And Bigsby's goals for himself are grand.

He wants to make it to the NFL, of course, but his desire is to do more than just make a career out of playing football. He wants to be great - and in the conversation with the best running backs to come through Auburn. That includes his current position coach, Cadillac Williams, whose own records - such as the program's career touchdown mark - Bigsby hopes to break before his time on the Plains ends. "I think that desire comes from his heart," Wiggins said. "He just - he's got a desire to play the highest level. When he steps on the field, he's one of the greatest competitors that I've ever been around." - Birmingham News

For Malzahn, the most impressive part of Bigsby's game is his determination despite still learning what it takes to play college football. "He's still learning the plays, he's learning the schemes and the steps and everything that goes with it. One thing he's doing is he's bringing the wood. He's running angry with great physicality and with great effort," Malzahn said. "He seized that opportunity. I really think you'll see him, after the game slows down a little bit and he actually can read things and slow himself down, I think he's - the sky is the limit. "He has that edge. You see him running, and like I said, he's got the potential to really, you know, keep going. That's what's exciting for me."

Bigsby acknowledged the comparison he's received to running backs coach Cadillac Williams, who was one of the Tigers' true stars at running back from 2001 to 2004. Bigsby said he leaves the comparisons between the two to those watching, although he admitted he is working to break all of his position coach's school records. Bigsby has taken nice strides as a true freshman, with the latest being crossing the 100-yard mark on the ground for the first time. He'll look to continue that play Saturday against a South Carolina defense that has only allowed 96 rushing yards per game this year, a task that the true freshman is likely eager to take on. "I am very hard on myself and expect more from myself, but it was real good to have my first 100-yard game in college. I'll continue and hopefully I'll have more to come," Bigsby said. - Opelika-Auburn News

Bigsby received the recognition following an impressive performance in the Tigers' 30-28 victory over Arkansas.   Bigsby gained his first experience with college ball when he entered the season-opener against Kentucky. In that game, Bigsby rushed six times for 15 yards, averaging 2.5 yards per carry. Against the Bulldogs, who were ranked fourth in the nation, Bigsby more than doubled his touches and his rushing yards. He touched the ball 15 times. Seven of those touches were carries, and he accumulated 31 rushing yards. The other eight were catches, which impressed Malzahn. "He caught the ball with some really good catches out of the backfield," Malzahn said. With 68 receiving yards, Bigsby was the team's lead receiver, beating out starting wide receivers Anthony Schwartz, who had 57 yards, and Seth Williams, who had 34 yards.

Malzahn also felt Bigsby played well away from the ball, saying he protected "pretty good." Bigsby earned the offensive helmet sticker for the way he competed. While Malzahn did not specify whether Bigsby will continue as the No. 1 running back or if he will drop to No. 2 or No. 3 when Shivers and Williams return to health, he did say that Bigsby is "in a good spot." The game experience Bigsby gained against Georgia can only help the room improve as a whole, Malzahn said, because it helps develop the depth of players Auburn can rely on. - Birmingham News

Bigsby delivered several of Auburn's biggest moments against the Bulldogs. "That was the best part of the night, just watching him play. That guy is a fighter. I've never really seen anything like it," said quarterback Bo Nix, who completed seven passes to the true freshman. "He was the spark there when we needed one.   Auburn updated its offensive arsenal this offseason with the addition of offensive coordinator Chad Morris, as well as a variety of new weapons for sophomore quarterback Bo Nix. Yet it is the Tigers' new Tank that seems to have fans most excited heading into the 2020, as freshman running back Tank Bigsby has generated the most buzz and anticipation since before he even stepped foot on campus. The former four-star recruit, who signed with Auburn during the early signing period last December and enrolled in classes in January, is one of the highest-rated prospects in program history and has a chance to see the field immediately in a retooled backfield that must replace the Tigers' leading rusher from a year ago.

"He's a one-play drive type of guy," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said on signing day. "I mean, from anywhere on the field he can take it to the house. He's got receiver-type skills with his hands. Very excited about Tank. We think he's an impact player. We think he could help us immediately." Since arriving on campus in January, Bigsby has done nothing to make Auburn question that belief, either. "Tank Bigsby is a good worker, and that's the exciting part about it," Auburn strength and conditioning coach Ryan Russell said in April. "He's a talented kid, obviously, but a good worker. (He) loves the game. This game is a lifestyle to him; it's not just a game. He's all about it." - Birmingham News
