2022 ALL-SUN BELT CONFERENCE FOOTBALL HONORABLE MENTION: RB - CJ Beasley (RS So., RB - Norfolk, Va.),...Ranked fourth on the depth chart to start the season, Beasley carried the Chants' rushing attack for two-thirds of the season with four running backs going down due to injury over the first six weeks. He leads the team with 130 carries for 672 yards and an average of 61.09 yards per game and is tied for the team lead with four rushing touchdowns. His 5.2 yards per carry this year ranks sixth in the SB C and 60th nationally, while his 672 rushing yards overall are 11th in the SBC.With each of CCU's top three running backs out due to injury, Beasley ran 25 times for 142 yards in the road win at Georgia State (Sept. 22) and had 15 carries for 115 yards and two scores in the road win at ULM (Oct. 8). As the only scholarship running back active in that three-game stretch, he also had 12 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown in the win over Georgia Southern (Oct. 1). Beasley has also been a threat ou t of the backfield this season, with 17 receptions for 159 yards and a touchdown. C.J. Beasley ran 56 yards to set up the final score of the game and Coastal Carolina rallied for a 26-23 victory over Southern Mississippi on Saturday night in the Chanticleers' first game without starting quarterback Grayson McCall. McCall injured his f oot in last week's 35-28 win over Appalachian State and will miss 3 to 6 weeks. Coastal Carolina (9-1, 6-1 Sun Belt Conference) jumped out to a 17-0 lead after one quarter. Aaron Bedgood ran 30 yards for a touchdown on the Chanticleers' first possession, Reese White added a 1-yard scoring run and freshman Kade Hensley kicked a 43-yard field. Southern Miss (5-5, 3-3) bounced back with a 17-point second quarter to tie the game at halftime. Briggs Bourgeois kicked a 21-yard field goal, freshman Kenyon Clay had a 1-yard touchdown run and Trey Lowe passed to freshman Tiaquelin Mims for a 15-yard score.Bourgeois and Hensley traded field goals in the third quarter to keep the game tied. The Golden Eagles grabbed a 23-20 lead early in the fourth quarter on another Bourgeois field goal, but Coastal Carolina needed just three plays to regain the lead for good. Beasley's long run came on first down and White ran for a 17-yard gain before scoring from 2 yards out. Jason Garrett started in place of McCall, completing 7 of 14 passes for 163 yards with two interceptions. Beasley had a game-high 68 yards on just four carries. CJ Beasley ran 24 yards for the go-ahead touchdown in the final minute, leaping over a defender on the way to the end zone, and Coastal Carolina defeated Georgia Southern 34-30 on Saturday night in a game that saw three lead changes in the final six minu tes. Beasley's run capped a 485-yard offensive performance by the Chanticleers (5-0, 2-0 Sun Belt) that was highlighted by Grayson McCall's four touchdowns - three passing and one on the ground. McCall hit Jared Brown for 61 yards and a touchdown with 5: 55 remaining in the fourth quarter that gave the Chanticleers their first lead - 28-27 - since early in the second quarter. After the Eagles regained the lead on a field by Alex Raynor, McCall led the Chanticleers 82 yards in 1:23, twice converting on th ird down prior to Beasley's go-ahead score with 38 seconds remaining.On Georgia Southern's final possession, Coastal's JT Killen had a sack and Kyle Vantrease threw incomplete three times. Vantrease finished with 26 completions in 43 attempts for 284 yards. He threw two TD passes but had two turnovers - a fumble and an interception. Jalen White had 145 yards rushing with one touchdown on 18 carries for the Eagles (3-2, 0-1).
