Jaydon Hill intercepted two passes, including one he returned 49 yards for a touchdown, and Florida held on to beat Missouri 24-17 on Saturday to end a six-game skid in Southeastern Conference play. Hill's pick-6 was among a bevy of big plays that gave the Gators (4-2, 1-2 SEC) their first league victory in a year. His second interception ended a third-quarter drive that had reached Florida's 16-yard line. It was a breakout performance for Hill, a third-year sophomore who was playing his second game since returning from a knee injury that wiped out his 2021 season. Hill had been a projected starter this past spring but needed arthroscopic surgery in the summer after tweaking the same knee again. Hill's play against the Tigers (2-4, 0-3) also backed up his comments earlier this week when he said Missouri is "just not supposed to" beat Florida.

Of course, it happened five times in the previous 10 meetings. The Gators, who entered the game as 10 1/2-point favorites according to FanDuel Sportsbook, looked like they might be in trouble again after gaining just 65 yards in the first half. But coach Billy Napier turned to the ground game in the second half, getting long runs from Montrell Johnson (36, 41), Trevor Etienne (39) and Anthony Richardson (32) to find the end zone. The Gators finished with 231 yards rushing, including 212 in the second half. Johnson led the way with 86 yards and a touchdown. Still, it was Florida's defense that clinched the game. The Gators stopped a fourth-and-2 play with 1:17 remaining to put the Tigers away. Richardson completed 8 of 14 passes for 66 yards, with a touchdown and an interception. It was his fifth straight game with at least one turnover. He also ran for 45 yards. Brady Cook was 22-of-30 passing for 220 yards for Missouri. Nathaniel Peat ran for 117 yards and a score. - Florida/AP College Football

Florida cornerback Jaydon Hill was charged with breaking into a car, stealing a debit card and making $1,700 in unauthorized purchases. Alachua County court records show Hill agreed last month to deferred prosecution on third-degree felony charges for unarmed burglary of an unoccupied vehicle, grand theft larceny of more than $750 and less than $5,000, and fraudulent and illegal use of credit cards. Hill will have the felonies dropped from his record if he completes 50 hours of community service, reimburses the stolen money to Mid-Florida Credit Union, pays $200 in prosecution fees and stays out of trouble for a year. Hill is sidelined this season after tearing a knee ligament during training camp. - AP College Football

Florida cornerback and projected starter Jaydon Hill will miss the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Jaydon Hill, a projected starter for Florida, has suffered a knee injury in fall training camp and will miss the 2021 season. The junior cornerback tore his left ACL in practice Sunday and is undergoing physical therapy to prep for surgery, his father, Freddie Ingram, told The Gainesville Sun.

UF coach Dan Mullen confirmed the injury Thursday. "It was very tough to get that call from him," Ingram said. "I guess the toughest part for me was Jaydon is not that emotional, but I just knew when he called he was upset about it. "This was his first time being a full-time starter, so he was looking for his big year and had a great team. So I'm just hurting for him. As a parent, when your child is hurt you're hurt." Ingram said Hill did not injure the same knee from high school. He tore his right ACL as a senior, eight days after committing to the Gators, but Mullen stuck with him. Mullen and his staff are offering that same support to Hill and his family this time around. - Gainesville Sun

Florida cornerback and projected starter Jaydon Hill will miss the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, an injury coach Dan Mullen called a "massive disappointment." A junior from Huntsville, Alabama, Hill started five games last season and had been slotted to play opposite Kaiir Elam, who tied for the Southeastern Conference lead with 13 pass defenses in 2020. Instead, the Gators are left to find Hill's replacement a week into training camp. "Just kind of a shame that stuff happens out there on the field," Mullen said. Hill was looking forward to becoming a full-time starter in his third season and helping Florida regain its reputation as being on the nation's top secondary units. The Gators ranked 100th out of 127 teams nationally in pass defense last season. Mullen will turn to a number of unproven candidates to fill the suddenly vacant spot. Missouri transfer Jadarrius Perkins and redshirt freshmen Avery Helm and Ethan Pouncey will be in the mix along with five-star recruit Jason Marshall from Miami. - AP College Football

When it comes to Florida junior cornerback Jaydon Hill, the lack of a traditional offseason during the 2020 season didn't result in a lack in his development. The Huntsville, Alabama, native took a massive leap during his sophomore campaign, seeing action in all 12 games last season, including five starts opposite of starting cornerback Kaiir Elam. He would finish the season with seven pass break-ups, good for second on the team - not necessarily a massive feat, but one that's impressive when put in context. By Hill's admission, he arrived in Gainesville with aspirations of being a top defensive back while possessing the understanding of a lone coverage.

That wasn't going to cut it, and he knew it. "When I got here, honestly, I couldn't even draw up a play besides Cover 3. I knew one defense, Cover 3. But my game has progressed tremendously, my mindset off the field, in meeting rooms. I couldn't even diagram an offense. Now I can draw up offensive plays, defensive plays and match them," Hill said. "But honestly, I even feel like my game has progressed - not just weight room and strength-wise with my ACL last year - but off the field, in meeting rooms, and being able to take my game from meeting room and apply on the field. To think faster and to play faster and all that." - Gainesville Sun
