He expects him to be close to 100% after the spring break, later this month.   Ben Bryant threw two touchdown passes, Ryan Coe kicked the go-ahead field goal in the fourth quarter and Cincinnati defeated East Carolina 27-25 on Friday night. Cincinnati led 24-12 at halftime but a 13-point third quarter gave East Carolina a 25-24 lead heading to the fourth. The Bearcats drove to the ECU 3-yard line on their first possession of the fourth quarter and Coe's 21-yard field goal gave them a 27-25 lead. That score held up as East Carolina failed to mount a scoring threat over the final nine minutes.

Bryant completed only 14 of his 30 attempts but they went for 244 yards - an average of nearly 17.5 yards per completion. Tyler Scott and Tre Tucker both averaged more than 20 yards per reception, with Scott catching 7 passes for 140 yards and Tucker 3 for 64. They scored one touchdown apiece. Holton Ahlers was 26-of-46 passing for 280 yards with two touchdowns for ECU. Keaton Mitchell rushed for 112 yards and C.J. Johnson had 123 receiving yards. Both scored a touchdown. Cincinnati (8-2, 5-1 American Athletic Conference) trails first-place Tulane by one game in the loss column. East Carolina fell to 6-4, 3-3. - Cincinnati/AP College Football

Deshawn Pace had an 18-yard pick-6 for the Bearcats' first points. Cincinnati intercepted Davis Brin twice, had 11 sacks and held the Golden Hurricane (3-2, 0-1) to 36 yards rushing.

Ben Bryant passed for 314 of his 354 yards in the first half with a career-high four touchdowns, and Tyler Scott had career-highs with 185 receiving yards and three TDs, as Cincinnati defeated Indiana 45-24 on Saturday. The Bearcats (3-1) won in Bloomington last season, a victory they believe helped jumpstart a 13-1 season and College Football Playoff berth. IU had won the previous five meetings. Byron Threats' first career interception and a 28-yard return gave Cincinnati first-and-goal at the six. The Bearcats settled for a 24-yard field goal by Ryan Coe to go ahead 3-0.

On the Bearcats' first play from scrimmage after the Hoosiers tied the score with a field goal, Bryant found Scott wide open for a 75-yard touchdown making the score 10-3. It was the longest pass play for the Bearcats since Scott's 81-yard TD against Miami (OH) last season. Bryant's 5-yard TD pass to Tre Tucker made the score 17-3 early in the second quarter. The Hoosiers (3-1) answered back on Connor Bazelak's 19-yard TD pass to senior running back Josh Henderson, but Bryant's second TD pass to Scott put Cincinnati ahead 24-10 with 4:33 left in the first half. Bazelak completed 31 of a school-record 66 pass attempts for 280 yards and two TDs with two interceptions. Shaun Shivers rushed for 79 yards and a TD. - Cincinnati/AP College Football

Sophomore quarterback Evan Prater and senior quarterback Ben Bryant are expected to battle through fall camp for the opportunity to replace Ridder as the Bearcats' starter when they open the season Sept. 3 at Arkansas (3:30 p.m. on ESPN). Fickell said he will do everything he can over the next five weeks to put both Prater and Bryant in the best position to succeed. "It will be as much of a battle as it can possibly be," Fickell said. "You can't go live. You can't put quarterbacks live. It's just not something you do now. But knowing we've got five returning starters up front on the offensive line and a defensive line that's going to be the anchors to what it is that we do, we'll have an opportunity to really challenge the rest. Challenge the quarterbacks, challenge the back end of our defense, because there's a lot of new guys. It's not that it's going to be different, but I think we can try to script it and put those guys in some positions where hopefully we can do a better job of truly evaluating them and what they can do for the entire team." - Cincinnati Enquirer

Cincinnati Bearcats coach Luke Fickell has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2022 Dodd Trophy, presented annually to the nation's top college football coach. The Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl on Tuesday announced the list that includes 20 FBS coaches. The Dodd Trophy celebrates the head coach of a team that enjoys success on the field, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity - the three pillars of legendary coach Bobby Dodd's coaching philosophy.

Fickell, who is entering his sixth season at the helm of the Cincinnati program, won the 2021 Dodd Trophy after leading the Bearcats to a 13-1 record, a second straight American Athletic Conference championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff. Fickell received the trophy before Cincinnati's spring game in April. The 48-year-old coach collected seven other national coach of the year honors last season, including The Home Depot National Coach of the Year, Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year, the Stallings Award, the Eddie Robinson Award, as well as accolades from the American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Foundation and Sporting News. - Cincinnati Enquirer

The touchdown capped an eight-play, 73-yard drive as Cannon crashed through a pair of defenders to give Eastern Michigan (4-2, 1-1) a 7-6 lead midway through the second quarter. Chad Ryland tacked on field goals of 47 and 33 yards as the Eagles extended their lead to 13-6.
