  07/26/21 - TE Lucas KrullrSr/2022, Pittsburgh, 6-6, 253 (DS#8 TE) + More +

Once an MLB draft choice, Lucas Krull continues to be recognized as a college football tight end, earning a second consecutive spot on the John Mackey Award Watch List. Krull, 6-foot-6, 260 pounds, was injured and missed most of the 2020 season, with only one catch for 6 yards against Syracuse. He did better than that in Pitt's Blue-Gold Spring Game, catching two passes for 40 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown. Krull played in 25 games in 2018 and 2019 at Florida, catching nine passes for 108 yards. He also completed two passes for 19 yards on gadget plays. - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Krull turned 22 on July 11 - another 7/11 connection - making him one of the oldest players on the team. He fits in well with the Panthers, a team with plenty of four- and five-year seniors. He quickly struck up a friendship with quarterback Kenny Pickett, who is a month older and was Krull's host on his recruiting visit. "We hit the ground running, and we haven't stopped since," Krull said. "It's been a great connection, and it will continue to grow."

Krull said he has been impressed with how Pickett has seized control of the huddle. "He wants greatness out of everybody, even if it's the 2s or 3s (units) that are in," Krull said. "If you aren't going hard, doing it right, he'll let you know. That's why he's going to get drafted and have a successful professional career." Speaking of careers, Krull said he's willing to put his on hold, if necessary, to remain at Pitt and conclude what he calls his "crazy journey." The NCAA Division I Council approved a proposal to allow athletes in fall sports this year to retain a season of eligibility. "If we don't have a season, there's no question I'll be coming back," he said. - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

He will have one season of immediate eligibility. Krull played in 25 games over the 2018 and '19 seasons for the Gators, catching nine passes for 108 yards (12.0 avg.). He also completed 2-of-2 passes for 19 yards on gadget plays. A hard-throwing pitcher, Krull played baseball for Jefferson College in Missouri during the 2017-18 season. He appeared in 11 games, making five starts, and notched 27 strikeouts in 16.2 innings pitched. Krull was selected in the 34th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft by the San Francisco Giants. - Pitt Football
