Slippery Rocky quarterback Roland Rivers and Notre Dame (Ohio) running back Jaleel McLaughlin, both finalists for the Division II player of the year award, were selected to The Associated Press D-II All-America team. The team, presented by Regions Bank a nd released Wednesday, was selected by a panel of sports information directors and the AP. Rivers passed for 4,460 yards and 52 touchdowns to lead Division II this season. McLaughlin is D-II's leading rusher with 2,316 yards and 30 touchdowns. Both are a mong eight finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy, the winner of which will be announced Friday. Minnesota State, which will play West Florida for the Division II championship, placed three players on the first team, tied with Tarleton State for the most o f any school. Running back Nate Gunn, offensive lineman Evan Heim and receiver Shane Zylstra made the first team from Minnesota State. Tarleton State was represented on the first team by receiver Zimari Manning, defensive lineman B.J. Jefferson and defen sive back Prince Robinson. - AP College Football

2019 ALL-PSAC FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION FIRST TEAM (COACHES): QB Roland Rivers III, Slippery Rock, Sr., Ellenwood, Ga./Martin Luther King,...Rivers earns his second straight first team ALL-PSAC honor. He broke the SRU single-season record for touchdown p asses with 40 and also set the SRU career touchdown passing record with 68 and counting. This season, he has completed 72.1 percent of his passes for 3,409 yards with 40 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He has also rushed for 591 yards and six touc hdowns for 4,000 yards of total offense and 46 touchdowns. He is the only player in Division II with 4,000 yards of offense and is just 200 yards shy of breaking the SRU single-season record of 4,199 yards.Rivers was named the MVP of the PSAC Cham pionship game after throwing for 302 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Kutztown. He threw for 300 or more yards in seven games this season and threw for at least three touchdown passes in nine different games. 2019 PSAC WEST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Roland Rivers III, Slippery Rock,...Rivers III is the fourth The Rock athlete to garner the award while it marks the sixth time Slippery Rock has boasted the winner. He is the first since 2013 (Nigel Barksdale). Rivers III has been electric all season and was named the MVP of the PSAC Championship after leading The Rock to a thrilling 37-35 win. The senior threw for 302 yards and rushed for 53 while amassing four touchdowns in the victory. Rivers II I currently leads all of DII in touchdown passes (40), passing efficiency (192.70) and points responsible for per game (25.3). He is third in passing yards (3409). The senior has thrown at least four touchdowns passes on seven occasions and turned in a p air of six-touchdown efforts (Sep. 5 & Sept 21). Five Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Football teams were selected to participate in the NCAA DII Football Championship, the NCAA announced Sunday evening. Twelve first-round games will be conducted on the campus of one of the competing institution s. In addition, one team per super regional has earned a first-round bye. The first-round winners will all advance to the second round with games on the campus of one of the competing institutions. Second-round winners will meet in the quarterfinals at v arious campus sites. Quarterfinal winners will advance to play in the semifinals on the campus of one of the competing institutions. Seven teams selected per super regional make up the field of 28 teams. It marks the first time the league has boasted fiv e postseason teams in the sport.Slippery Rock (11-0) entered the week at No. 8 in the American Football Coaches’ Association Poll and earned the No. 1 seed in Super Region 1 and will receive a first-round bye. The Rock will participate in the po stseason for the 10th time in school history and fifth time this decade. Coach Shawn Lutz’s team boasts the fifth-highest scoring offense in the country (46.9). Senior quarterback Roland Rivers III is third in the country in passing yards (3409). Slipp ery Rock won the PSAC title with a thrilling 37-35 win. NOV 11 PSAC FOOTBALL WESTERN DIVISION OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Roland Rivers III, Slippery Rock (Sr./QB), Ellenwood, Ga./Martin Luther King,...Rivers III was nearly perfect in leading a dominant showing from No. 9 Slippery Rock in a 56-7 win at Gan non. He completed 20-of-26 passes (77%) for 293 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions and finished his day with 308 total yards of offense in less than three quarters of work. Rivers also set the Slippery Rock single-season and career TD passin g records with 36 TD passes in 10 games this year and 64 TD passes in just 22 games at The Rock. Slippery Rock has been tabbed the favorite to win the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Football Western Division following the preseason poll as selected by the league's head coaches, the league office announced Monday. Slippery Rock garnered six o f the eight possible first-place votes after claiming the Western Division in 2018 before advancing to the NCAA DII Football Quarterfinals. The Rock returns 11 starters on defense and are three wins shy of 600 overall as program.Slippery Rock fini shed ranked No. 7 in the NCAA DII National Poll released by the American Football Coaches Association.
