Four former Auburn players have been invited to participate in this year's NFL Combine, which is taking on a different format this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Wide receivers Seth Williams and Anthony Schwartz, safety Jamien Sherwood and linebacker K.J. Britt were among the 323 prospects invited to participate in this year's annual scouting event, the NFL announced Wednesday. Schwartz previously announced his invite on social media last month. Williams led Auburn in receiving yards each of the last two seasons, including 760 and four touchdowns on 47 receptions as a junior last fall before declaring early for the draft. - Birmingham News

Auburn is on the verge of losing two more of its top wide receivers to the NFL. Seth Williams confirmed that he’s entering the NFL draft, which was first reported by AL.com Monday morning. Eli Stove is also expected to turn pro instead of returning to the Tigers for a second senior season, according to a source. It means that the Tigers will have to replace their top three wide receivers from this season as Anthony Schwartz, who led the team with 54 catches this year, had already declared for the NFL draft. - AL.com

So much of the conversation about the Auburn offense centered around quarterback Bo Nix following the loss to South Carolina, but wide receiver Seth Williams wasn't spared from criticism, either. With the opportunity to get things back on track against Ole Miss, Williams worked alongside Nix to deliver another dramatic victory and to show that Williams is still one of the SEC's most dangerous receivers. Williams had his best game of the season Saturday against the Rebels, as he reeled in a season-high eight catches for 150 yards and one touchdown. The last of those eight catches will be the one everyone remembers, as he caught a pass down the sideline from Nix, cut past two Ole Miss defenders then raced to the end zone for the go-ahead 58-yard touchdown.

The scene after the score - Nix racing to the end zone to congratulate Williams on the game-changing play - was a far cry from the one the week before, when Williams and Nix were caught on camera frustrated with each other on the sidelines. For Williams, the performance and the connection with Nix against Ole Miss was more of what the duo was used to, compared to the sideline blow-up in South Carolina. "It was a big emphasis on [bouncing back]. We had a little struggle last week, but we came this week with our mindset that we were going to refuse to lose, and that's what we did when we came out," Williams said. "Me and Bo, we always bump heads every now and then. Two great minds are always going to bump heads; you're just going to get over it. It was nothing to worry about, just me and him - just being us. We came back and put it behind us, and we got the win today." - Opelika-Auburn News

Seth Williams did it again. Williams caught the game-winning touchdown from Bo Nix, hauling in a 58-yard touchdown with less than two minutes to go, and the Auburn football team survived Ole Miss 35-28 Saturday on the road in Oxford, Miss. Nix fired to Williams on the sideline in the nervous waning moments, before Auburn's superstar receiver hauled in the pass about 20 yards downfield, spun, and juked past the OIe Miss safety to race to an epic score. Auburn started its drive at its own 20 trailing by a point with just 2:25 left in the game. Nix, roasted under a microscope all week after struggling in last week's loss at South Carolina, was taken down for a sack on the series' first play. But Nix responded by firing a completion to Eli Stove. Freshman sensation Tank Bigsby then converted a third-and-1 to get Auburn to the Auburn 31. After an incompletion, Nix hit Schwartz to get Auburn to its own 42, and that's when Nix and Williams connected for another huge touchdown connection. Williams played like a superstar all game, catching eight passes for 134 yards and the game-winning touchdown. - Opelika-Auburn News

Williams' athletic exploits caught people's attention before too long, leading to multiple scholarship offers. Despite growing up about 15 miles from Tuscaloosa, Williams leaned on his relationships with Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn and assistant Kodi Burns and chose the Tigers on Thanksgiving in 2017. From the time he first arrived in Auburn, Williams had done nothing but impressed. His performance to start his junior season drew plenty of praise as he works to become Auburn's first All-American wide receiver since Frank Sanders in 1994. Former teammate Darius Slayton said Williams is the best 50-50 ball receiver around, and quarterback Bo Nix explained he is on track to become truly special. "Seth is a great receiver, and he's taken the next step into becoming a really good receiver. This offseason, we've just practiced and practiced," Nix said. "Seth is always a guy that will go up and make a catch for you. He'll go up and make plays, and he's an explosive guy. He can go up and get it."

Williams has wowed consistently at Auburn, something he's done since years ago with the Stampede. Those who knew him then are far from surprised about his success at Auburn, and they are eagerly anticipating even more from Cottondale's favorite son. "Us as coaches, we would just say, 'You've got to ride with this guy.' You've got to figure that that guy is just bound for greatness," Peck-Love said. "What he's doing now just exemplifies what we thought. He's just a great guy. We knew he was bound to be great at whatever avenue he chose because he's just that type of guy." - Opelika-Auburn News

Auburn will be an underdog in this year's installment of the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry. Fresh off a season-opening win against Kentucky, No. 7 Auburn (1-0) opened as a seven-point underdog for next weekend's matchup against No. 4 Georgia (1-0), according to VegasInsider.com. Auburn travels to Athens, Ga., on Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. CT meeting with the Bulldogs, who opened their season with a road win against Arkansas. Georgia has won three straight in the series since Auburn's last win -- a 40-17 drubbing at Jordan-Hare Stadium during the 2017 regular season. This year's matchup, which will be the earliest meeting in the calendar since the first-ever game in the storied rivalry, will be the third time in the last five meetings that both teams are ranked in the top-10 entering the game. - Birmingham News

Any team in the country could use a wide receiver the caliber of Auburn's Seth Williams, but his domination of a strong Kentucky defense pounds home what is still missing from this UK roster. Williams, listed at 6-foot-3, 211 pounds on Auburn's roster, caught six passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns. His fourth quarter touchdown over tight coverage from Kentucky cornerback Kelvin Joseph was the type of jump ball play offenses with an elite receiver can depend on. "They have a wide out that's an absolute monster," Stoops said. "He's hard to matchup with, and what they do. It's hard in certain situations it's hard to double him...Made two incredible catches. I think there's critical plays, critical moments, and then there's some great individual efforts as well. You have to credit them on that one and certainly Seth." - Courier Journal

Seth Williams says it's his, any time the ball is in the air. Saturday when that ball floated toward him in the end zone in the fourth quarter, Kentucky's chances hung in the air with it. Williams reached up and snatched it down for another game-breaking score in another clutch moment - stretching Auburn's lead from two points to two scores as the students in Jordan-Hare Stadium roared, and as Williams flexed his muscles looking like every bit the superstar player that he has become. Williams finished with six receptions for 112 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday in Auburn's 29-13 win over Kentucky, that second one coming on third-and-goal as Auburn led just 15-13 in the fourth.

Williams reached up over Kentucky defender Kelvin Joseph, hauled it in behind him then shoved Joseph away, sending his teammates to jump in jubilation. "Seth Williams absolutely Moss'd him," SportsCenter tweeted out to its national audience. Plenty all around the country reacted the same way. Williams proved he's still that playmaker. "When the ball goes up, you've got to have that feeling where you're going to come down with it," Williams said after the win. "You've got to know it's your ball when it's in the air." - Opelika-Auburn News

Bo Nix threw for 233 yards and three second-half touchdowns, including a pair to Seth Williams, and No. 8 Auburn scored twice in the fourth quarter to pull away from No. 23 Kentucky for a 29-13 victory Saturday in the season opener. The Tigers turned a three-quarter scare into a comfortable win by capitalizing on a late turnover and Kentucky's failed fake punt in the lone Top 25 matchup of the Southeastern Conference's opening weekend.

The game was played before a COVID-19-limited crowd of 17,000-plus - mostly Auburn students - and the most electric moment for the sparse in-person audience was a 100-yard interception return called back by targeting just before halftime. Nix delivered some big plays to start an encore to a promising freshman season, especially to Williams. He completed 16 of 27 passes and also ran for 34 yards. - AP College Football

Each of Auburn's top three receivers from a year ago - Seth Williams, Anthony Schwartz and Eli Stove - are back for 2020, though the Tigers will be without Schwartz this spring as he again shifts his focus to running track. Williams and Stove bring a wealth of experience to the position group, while the rest of Auburn's available receiving corps this spring consists of a little-used redshirt senior transfer, a pair of third-year players who have not been utilized much in the passing game and a trio of freshmen (including one early enrollee).

That means this spring will be one of opportunity for that group, as Williams will maintain his hold on the Tigers' top receiver role at split end after a breakthrough sophomore campaign and Stove will continue to be a reliable option in a versatile role as a pass-catcher and jet-sweep option. Who else emerges from the group as the Tigers try to round out their receiver rotation will be a key development to watch for this offseason, especially with Schwartz out of the picture this spring, as Auburn's passing game was at its best when Schwartz and Williams were on the field together. - Birmingham News

After its defense led the way through the first four weeks, Auburn made a statement on the other side of the ball Saturday night. Seth Williams had eight receptions for 161 yards and two touchdowns, JaTarvious Whitlow ran for three scores and Bo Nix had his best game in an Auburn uniform in the No. 7 Tigers' 56-23 victory over Mississippi State in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn (5-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) started fast, scoring three touchdowns on its first eight plays from scrimmage. It was aided by five Miss State penalties and a fumbled kickoff in the first five minutes that resulted in short fields.

Whitlow galloped for a 30-yard score on Auburn's first play. After the Tigers stifled Tommy Stevens and the Miss State offense for minus-22 yards on their first two possessions, Nix and receiver Anthony Schwartz added red-zone rushing touchdowns for a 21-0 lead. "To come out and spot them 21 before the band even gets in their seats, you don't give yourself a chance," Bulldogs coach Joe Moorhead said. Save for a lost fumble by Williams with 4:30 left in the second quarter, Auburn scored a touchdown on every possession in the first half. Whitlow found the end zone on a pair of 3-yard runs in the second quarter, and Nix dropped a 39-yard pass over Williams' shoulder for the score with 12 seconds until halftime. Auburn's 42 first-half points marked its most in an SEC half since scoring the same against Vanderbilt in 1990. - Auburn/AP College Football
