As physically challenging as football is as a sport, the mental aspect also has brought out Justin Ellis' toughness. For every two steps forward in his career, it seems the Georgia Southern redshirt senior defensive end had taken one step back. "This is always what I wanted to do," Ellis, 21, said after an Eagles practice last week. "You've got to see it through. That's how I've always looked at it...I'll put my faith in God, and whatever happens, happens." He recovered from a broken leg as a high school junior to record 19 sacks his senior season and lead Roswell to a state championship game appearance.

Ellis thought he had missed his chance to play in a Power Five conference and was considering Group of Five programs when Syracuse of the ACC offered him a scholarship after National Signing Day. But his time in Syracuse was brief and unhappy - he points to his position coach's style of coaching - so he came home after his freshman year to the Peach State. He found a much better fit at Georgia Southern, one of those Group of Five programs that recruited him at Roswell. He liked playing for defensive line coach Victor Cabral, whom he knew through summer camps. Ellis sat out the 2018 season as a transfer. - Savannah Morning News
