UNM offensive lineman Teton Saltes and punter Tyson Dyer are among eight former Lobos who will participate in the UNM Pro Day on Thursday. Saltes' goal is to bench press 225 pounds 25 times. He is raising money while pursuing that, asking for a donation for each repetition "to support Uplifting Athletes and its mission to inspire the Rare Disease Community with hope through the power of sport," Saltes said on a web page at https://charity.pledgeit.org/f/ZIUOczMYQj. Saltes tweeted the information Wednesday morning on Twitter. Saltes, a 6-foot-6, 322-pound right tackle, won the Wuerffel Trophy in January awarded to the Football Bowl Subdivision player who best combines exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field. Team representatives from the Green Bay Packers and Las Vegas Raiders will conduct the pro day. - Albuquerque Journal

2020 WUERFFEL TROPHY AWARD WINNER: Teton Saltes, New Mexico,...Teton Saltes was named the 2020 winner of the Wuerffel Trophy, becoming the first major award winner in the history of Lobo Football. The honor was announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN. During the show he was also honored for being named to the 2020 Allstate/AFCA Goodworks Team Captain. It was a night of several firsts for the award itself, as Saltes became the Wuerffel Trophy's first recipient from the Mountain West and the award was presented on the prestigious awards show itself. - New Mexico Football

2020 WUERFFEL TROPHY FINALIST: Teton Saltes, University of New Mexico, senior, offensive line,...Saltes was honored over the summer as a Lobo Hero for his work on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis, working with his native Oglala Lakota tribe to distribute needed supplies to those on his home reservation, which was hit particularly hard. Saltes also has worked in and is passionate about suicide prevention, about children's reading, and he has served with the Save The Children Action Network as an advocate for children, speaking in Washington in 2019. He was UNM's nominee for the All State AFCA Good Works Team, which hasn't been announced. The depths of Saltes' community service could fill up a web page, and it certainly has filled up his nomination form. - New Mexico Football

2019 ALL-MOUNTAIN WEST HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): Teton Saltes, Jr., OL,...Kyle Stapley and Teton Saltes were steady anchors on the offensive line for the Lobos this season, starting in every game this season at center and right tackle, respectively. The Lobo offensive line was the final team in the FBS to allow a sack, and the team has allowed 18 for the year. UNM currently is tied for 27th in the nation in fewest sacks allowed. The Lobos were led by Rimington candidate Stapley, who has allowed just two sacks, one hit and two hurries in 375 pass blocking sequences. His pass blocking efficiency rating according to Pro Football Focus is 99.1% and that's the fourth-best mark in the Mountain West among all linemen with 350 pass blocks and 600 total snaps, and best among all Mountain West centers. Saltes anchored the right side of the line, and was a semifinalist for the Wuerffel Trophy. - New Mexico Football
