Davon Ferguson, Bowling Green, Player News

Four Bowling Green State University football players have been named to the East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 list. Safety Jordan Anderson, defensive lineman Karl Brooks, cornerback Davon Ferguson and tight end Christian Sims were named to the list by the East-West Shrine as the senior all-star game identifies eligible players for the 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl and the 2023 NFL Draft Class.

The list was put together by the East-West Shrine Bowl by scouting players from all four levels of football and speaking with NFL and college personnel to put together the list of 1,000 players. Ferguson (Baltimore) returns after missing the final four games of the season with an injury. When he went down with injury, he was the only player in the nation with 60+ tackles (68), 2.0+ sacks (2) and 4+ passes defended (4). He was No. 1 in the MAC and No. 14 in the nation with 5.6 solo tackles per game. - Sentinel Tribune

A couple of former Kansas football players who left the program months ago finally have come out on the other end of the NCAA's transfer portal. Both defensive back Davon Ferguson and tight end James Sosinski announced their future football plans this week, with Ferguson heading to Bowling Green and Sosinski off to Nevada. Ferguson, a starter in the secondary for the KU defense in each of the first four games of 2020, entered the portal shortly after the season's completion. Even though Ferguson, a junior last year, missed the final five games for the Jayhawks (0-9), he finished sixth on the team with 27 total tackles. In what proved to be his final game in a KU uniform, Ferguson led the Jayhawks with nine total tackles in a loss at West Virginia. Sosinski, who could have potentially returned to KU as a super-senior, also entered the portal in December. - Lawrence Journal World

Just as Kansas football coach Les Miles indicated a month ago, safety Davon Ferguson won't be back with the program in 2021. The redshirt junior from Baltimore announced Friday night on his Twitter account he will be entering the NCAA's transfer portal. A starter in the secondary for the KU defense in each of the first four games this year, Ferguson first appeared on the team's did not dress list for undisclosed reasons for the Jayhawks' Oct. 24 road game at Kansas State. After a few more weeks of Ferguson missing games, when Miles was asked about the defensive back's absence on Nov. 16 the head coach revealed Ferguson wouldn't be coming back to the lineup in 2020. - KU Sports

Safety Davon Ferguson, who started for the Kansas football defense in each of the first four games this season, is no longer with the team, head coach Les Miles said on Monday. "I think he's opted out," Miles said during a video press conference when asked about Ferguson, who had missed KU's previous three games for undisclosed reasons. "And we wish Davon the very best." Ferguson told the Journal-World that "personal reasons" led to him leaving the team, but he didn't elaborate. He said he is still enrolled at KU and plans to remain so for the spring semester, as well. But Miles said he didn't expect the 5-foot-10, 197-pound defensive back would be back on the roster in 2021. "I don't see his return, just to be very frank about it," Miles said. Even though Ferguson, a junior from Baltimore, hasn't played since KU's Oct. 17 loss at West Virginia, he remains the defense's fourth-leading tackler (27 total stops) headed into the final three weeks of the season. Ferguson made a team-best 11 total tackles in KU's loss to Oklahoma State on Oct. 3. He averaged 6.8 tackles per game in his four starts. - Lawrence Journal World
