2020 ALL-ACC FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): WR - Tutu Atwell, Louisville, 73,...A native of Miami, Fla., Atwell led the Cardinals with 46 catches for 625 yards and a team high seven touchdown receptions in only nine games. A first team selection in 2019, Atwell scored a touchdown in six games, including two against Miami. He recorded a season high eight catches versus Miami and Virginia Tech, while registering a pair of 100-yard receiving games. Atwell, who decided to forgo his senior season to enter the NFL Draft, ended his UofL career eighth on Louisville's career receiving yards list with 2,307 and tied for fifth with 21 career touchdowns. - Louisville Football

University of Louisville football star Tutu Atwell is entering the NFL Draft. The wide receiver made the announcement in a heartfelt post on social media explaining that he would not play in Saturday’s game against Wake Forest. Atwell, one of the most explosive players in the country leads the Cards in receiving and receiving touchdowns. For his career at Louisville, he caught 140 passes for a little more than 2,300 yards and 21 touchdowns. - ABC WHAS TV 11 News

Atwell was the other big name left off the field in Saturday's loss to Virginia. The standout slot receiver has an injury that Satterfield would not disclose and is listed as questionable for Friday's game against Syracuse. The Miami native has tallied 528 receiving yards and five touchdowns this season and Satterfield said it will be close to see if he can play on Friday. "No specifics. Should know more this week I think he'll be really close to be able to come back. The negative is that it's a short week," Satterfield said. Satterfield stopped all rumors of Atwell wanting to opt out, like Hawkins. Satterfield said he and Atwell have not had a discussion about opting out this season. - Courier Journal

Louisville's offense was supposed to be one of the best in the ACC this year and the reason it was thought of as a contender. But against Notre Dame, in the biggest game on the season, it was the reason it lost, not the defense. The Cardinals tallied just 234 yards and outside of the first drive of the second half, never looked in sync. Wide receiver Tutu Atwell never truly got going with 40 yards in the game, and the offensive line couldn't create room for Hawkins to run consistently. Notre Dame had more than 36 minutes possession. It was so lopsided that Louisville ran just five plays in the first quarter and it took until the second half for Satterfield to get through his scripted first and second down play calls. "That tells you the few amount of plays we ran in the first half," Satterfield said. - Courier Journal

Atwell returns with high expectations again this fall, and the Hilltoppers know they'll need to do a better job of limiting his production in Saturday's season opener if they want to snap an 11-game losing streak to Louisville. "We kind of have some different coverages - I can't go into specifics - but we have different things that we're going to do to contain him and make them use other players to have to beat us," WKU redshirt sophomore defensive back Beanie Bishop said Wednesday. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound receiver out of Miami Northwestern Senior High School set Louisville's record for receiving yards in 2019 and tied the school record for touchdowns. Atwell's 1,276 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns were top marks in the ACC last season.

Atwell, who averaged 18.75 yards per reception last season, had his big-play ability on display last year at Nissan Stadium. Atwell had a 46-yard touchdown reception from Micale Cunningham early in the second quarter and a 62-yard reception from Evan Conley late in the third. He also had a 9-yard score in the first quarter, a 4-yard reception in the second-quarter scoring drive and a 24-yard reception in the fourth quarter. "He's definitely an electric football player. He did the same thing in the ACC throughout the year," WKU defensive coordinator Clayton White said Wednesday. "I think the most important thing is just to be aware, play smart, understand his strengths and make sure we use our strengths to our advantage as well, and just do a great job of understanding where he's located on the offense and the things he likes to do." - BG Daily News

Atwell might be one of the most influential receivers in the country, just because of his speed alone. The junior wide receiver said he ran a 4.27 40-yard dash last year, and when you watch him on the field, you can believe it. Last year, he tallied 1,272 yards, 12 touchdowns and 18.43 yards per reception. He ranked first in the ACC in yards, second in touchdowns and fourth in yards per reception. When Satterfield's offense was able to use its run game to set up the pass so well, Atwell fit perfectly in the scheme. They used him in jet sweeps and even let him throw a touchdown to Marshon Ford in the Music City Bowl. This year, Atwell might be an even bigger weapon. He'll be the focus of every defense that Louisville plays, although that still might not be enough, because he's just faster than everybody on the field. He eclipsed 100 yards seven times last year and five times in the last six games of the season, showing that it didn't matter if defenses had film on him. - Courier Journal

Should the best-case scenario come to pass, the University of Louisville football season could start ahead of schedule. U of L athletic director Vince Tyra is exploring the possibility of moving up the Cardinals' Sept. 3 opener against NC State to avoid a potential conflict with Churchill Downs' popular "Thurby" card, which last year attracted a record crowd of 48,212. "We're trying to sort out whether we can pull that (game) off Thursday night or whether we should be playing Wednesday night," Tyra said during a videoconference Wednesday night with U of L fans and donors."...It's a spectacular week. It's just an odd time of year." Cardinal Stadium's proximity to the racetrack makes it a significant source of parking for Churchill's peak crowds each spring. But with Kentucky Derby week pushed back to September because of COVID-19, a football game overlapping with a race day could result in clogged parking lots, congested traffic and overstretched city services. - Courier Journal

Atwell has the highest ceiling of any Louisville draft-eligible prospect simply because of his breakaway speed. Use Ravens wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown as an example. Brown, a speedy receiver who ran a 4.32 40-yard, was drafted No. 25 overall and was the first wide receiver off the board in the 2019 NFL draft. Atwell has that same level of speed and is coming off a 1,000-yard season.

This could be a big year for Atwell's draft prospects. He's already shown his ability to be used as a vertical threat, jet sweep speedster and reverse quarterback, but if he can build off last year's success and show that he is a well-rounded receiver, he could make a big splash in the draft. He's undersized at 5-foot-9 and 169 pounds, but with another year of production, don't be surprised if an NFL team grabs him early. - Courier Journal
