  10/19/22 - OT Carter WarrenrSr/2023, Pittsburgh, 6-6, 311 (DS#14 OT) + More +

The news emerging from Pitt's off week couldn't have been worse for a coach who loves developing and sustaining a solid ground game. Pat Narduzzi announced Monday that senior offensive tackle Carter Warren, who has appeared in 40 games (39 starts) since 2019 while anchoring the left side of the line, is lost for the season with an unspecified injury. Warren, one of four team captains, left the Rhode Island game Sept. 24 and did not play in subsequent games against Georgia Tech or Virginia Tech.

Narduzzi said Warren (6-foot-5, 325 pounds) has tried to recover in time to get back on the field this season. "This guy wants to play bad," the coach said. "And I really feel bad. We've done everything in our power as trainers and doctors to try to get him as close as he could and try to get him back on the field to play. And, again, his future is important, as well. "I can't thank him enough for all the efforts he's made. It's sad to think that he's played his last ball game in that Pitt uniform. I don't even want to think about it. He didn't want to think about it. "That's why he's tried so hard. He's tried to rehab it, tried to get back. It doesn't feel good enough. And we need to get him prepared for his next journey in the NFL. It's only fair for him to be able to do that." - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

TRACKING TOP DRAFT PROSPECTS - WEEK 2: 46. Carter Warren, rSr, OT, Pittsburgh, 6-5, 325, 2,...In a second consecutive wild game, Pitt lost to Tennessee, 34-27, in overtime. Pitt collected 415 total yards, 273 in the air, but quarterback Kedon Slovis was battered in the game and left after a strip sack. He appeared to hit his head and shoulder on the ground. After five sacks in the opener, somebody up front isn't doing the job. We'll check the video.

Previous week, No. 45: Pitt rallied to win the season-opening Backyard Brawl against West Virginia, 38-31, before a crowd of 77,622, largest ever for a sporting event in sports-crazy Pittsburgh. This was a game that had to be seen to be believed. So watch for a replay. Meantime, Warren did well in this wide open game as Pitt gained 384 total yards, 308 passing by one time Southern Cal quarterback Kedon Slovis, despite being sacked five times. - Frank Cooney/NFL Draft Scout

2022 PRESEASON OUTLAND TROPHY WATCHLIST: OT Carter Warren, Pitt,...Warren (Paterson, N.J./Passaic Tech) turned down an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl over the offseason and decided to return for his final year of eligibility to play with Pitt's veteran offensive line, which brings back all five starters from last season's championship-winning squad. The towering 6-foot-5, 325-pound left tackle has been a stalwart for the Panthers for three seasons now, accumulating 35 starts during that time protecting the blind side of Kenny Pickett. Warren garnered second team All-ACC honors last season for a Pitt attack that posted school-record production in points (41.4) and yards per game (486.6). With a new quarterback but plenty of returning talent at every other offensive position, Warren will again be a key piece to Pitt's offense in 2022. - Pitt Football

When you stand 6-foot-5 and weigh 320 pounds with thick arms and a muscle-bound chest, it may be difficult to look welcoming. But Carter Warren and four of his similarly sized buddies on Pitt's offensive line pulled it off Tuesday. They greeted, mingled with and even played a game of "Connect 4" (Jake Kradel's specialty) and shot bumper pool (Gabe Houy's area of expertise) with several young people at the Boys and Girls Club North Area Clubhouse in Millvale. It was part of an event entitled "Carter's Creations Initiative." It was hosted by Carter, who is entering his fourth season as Pitt's starting left offensive tackle. As an example of solidarity and to give the kids a thrill, he brought along Pitt's other starting linemen: Marcus Minor, Owen Drexel, Kradel and Houy, who he described as "my best friends."

What's behind Carter's efforts? Perhaps NCAA name, image and likeness legislation offered a boost, but Warren planned the event himself. It likely would have happened even without the existence of NIL. He and his teammates handed out T-shirts to the kids, and proceeds from sales of the excess inventory will go directly to the Boys and Girls Club, said Sammy Spina, who is Warren's NIL representative. Carter said the idea of taking an afternoon to spend time with the kids "started with a dream and a passion." "Growing up, I was always in a Boys and Girls Club," he said. "I just wanted to give back. It's all about (the kids). "Growing up, living in Paterson, N.J., there's not much around. The Boys and Girls Club, that was a safe haven for a lot of people." - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
