Shamari Brooks scored on a 15-yard run in overtime and Tulsa overcame four turnovers to defeat Tulane 20-13 on Saturday. The Golden Hurricane (4-6, 3-3 American Athletic Conference) held the Green Wave (1-9, 0-6) after the touchdown with Tyon Davis knock ing down Michael Pratt's pass on fourth-and-10 from the 25. Brooks rushed 19 times for 71 yards. Davis Brin was 19 of 30 for 188 yards and a 10-yard touchdown pass to Ezra Naylor II in the first quarter but he was intercepted three times, which helped se t up a wild finish.Pratt connected with Phat Watts for a 49-yard touchdown to cap a 95-yard drive with 2:52 to play to pull the Green Wave within 13-10. Then Shi'ke Laister recovered an onside kick and Merek Glover's 23-yard field goal tied the ga me with 1:16 to play. Macon Clark then intercepted Brin and returned the ball 12 yards to the Tulsa 24 but Glover missed a 26-yard field goal wide right with 4 seconds remaining. Shamari Brooks scored on a 3-yard run with 47-seconds to play, lifting Tulsa to a 32-31 win over South Florida on Saturday. The winning nine-play, 42-yard drive was set up when the defense stopped the Bulls twice, beginning with a third-and-1, giving the offense the ball with 4:20 to play. The winning drive include a six-yard pass completion on fourth-and-2 from the Tulsa 20. USF led 24-20 at the half on a 100-yard kickoff return by Brian Battie and a 69-yard interception return by Antonio Grier Jr. on the ensuing Tulsa possession. It was third 100-yard kick TD in school history and the third-longest interception return. Tulsa (3-4, 2-1 American Athletic Conference) rallied late in the second quarter with 10 points on three plays - a field goal, a fumb le recovery on the kickoff and a 37-yard TD pass from Davis Brin to Sam Crawford Jr. South Florida had 535 yards of offense, the Bulls (1-5, 0-2) 268. University of Tulsa running back Shamari Brooks is back on the practice field after a knee injury sidelined him for the 2020 season, but he is being held out of contact drills as a precaution. "We're just going to be smart with him," coach Philip Montgom ery said. "We know what Shamari brings to the table...He's worked out all summer and he's done all the change-of-direction things, but when you get all those people on the field and you've got traffic around you, we just want to be smart. So we're going to use him when we can and kind of bring him back in a good pace without just doing it all." Asked whether Brooks is fully recovered, Montgomery said: "I know he feels good. He feels confident in his knee. That's the most important thing. And now it's ju st getting back into football-type shape when it comes to cutting and changing and seeing things and having to react." - Tulsa World

Zach Smith threw a career-high five touchdown passes, Shamari Brooks ran for a career-high 202 yards and Tulsa beat East Carolina 49-24 on Saturday. Brooks, a junior, finished the season with 1,086 yards rushing. The Pirates led for 36 seconds when Jake Verity kicked a 51-yard field goal with 1:42 left in the first quarter. With 66 seconds left in the first, Smith threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Sam Crawford Jr. Smith followed with two more TD passes, one to Keylon Stokes for 29 yards and the other to Keenen Johnson for 4 yards and the Golden Hurricane (4-8, 2-6 American Athletic Conference) led 21-3 at intermission. T.K. Wilkerson's 10-yard scoring run 3½ minutes into the third made it 28-3. Holton Ahlers led East Carolina (4-8, 2-6) with 308 yards passing and three touchdowns. C.J.
