 Case Cook, Missouri, Player News

  08/22/21 - OG Case CookrSr/2022, Missouri, 6-4, 291 (DS#15 OG) + More +

Mizzou announced team captains on Sunday, as voted by teammates: offensive guard Case Cook, quarterback Connor Bazelak and safety Martez Manuel. Cook is a two-time captain after earning the honor last season, too. "It means a lot, especially this being the second time," Cook said after Monday's practice. "Like I've said before, and these guys probably know I wouldn't be anything without these guys, so for them to select me to be their leader and our captain it's like the greatest honor in my mind that you can receive as a member of a team, especially a football team." Cook will be a three-year starter at right guard, while Bazelak and Manuel both became regular starters last year. - Post-Dispatch

As Case Cook strolled into a small conference room on the third floor of The Wynfrey Hotel on Thursday for his first meeting with reporters since chopping off his mullet, he still beamed with confidence. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound Cook was decked out for the occasion at SEC Media Days in a navy suit, yellow tie and cowboy boots. His footwear, he said, served as a tribute to rural Missourians. Cook's a country boy at heart, after all, coming from Carrollton, Georgia, about 45 minutes from Atlanta and near the Alabama border. Cook, primed to start along the Missouri offensive line for the third straight season, is the Tigers' lone returning team captain from the 2020 season. Nick Bolton and Larry Rountree have both since departed for the NFL. "I'm a leader on this team and I don't feel bad about coming out and saying that. Yeah, I'm a team leader," Cook said. "It's up to me to make sure the guys are coming into work every day and we're heading in the right direction. As we've said before, pulling the spear in the same direction, all trying to push in that way.

"That's our team mission, our team goal. My role is really just to make sure that we're doing what we're supposed to be doing, and I'm a shining example of how it's supposed to be done every day. I can't have a bad day, I can't have an off day. "I've got to be there. I've got to be ready to roll all the time." Cook has started at right guard in Missouri's past 20 games, one of only two Tiger offensive linemen to start every 2020 game, joining center Mike Maietti, who is also back for the 2021 season after exercising his extra year of eligibility allowed by the NCAA. - Columbia Daily Tribune

OCT 26 SEC OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: Case Cook, OL, Missouri,...A leader on Mizzou's offensive line that absolutely dominated the line of scrimmage against a great Kentucky defensive line...Helped Mizzou hold the ball for a whopping 43:10, the Tigers' highest single-game TOP since joining the SEC, while running 92 plays with 62 coming on the ground...The 62 rushes were the second-most ever by Mizzou in an SEC game and most since rushing 67 times at Tennessee on Nov. 19, 2016...The 220 rush yards allowed by Kentucky was the most against the Wildcats since Oct. 19, 2019, when Georgia put up 235 on the ground in a 21-0 win...The 62 rushes were the most against Kentucky since Sept. 3, 2016, with Southern Miss had 68...Mizzou was an unbelievable 14-for-25 combined (56 percent) on third and fourth down...Allowed just one sack and just six negative plays on 92 offensive plays, controlling the game and beating Kentucky at its own game...Mizzou's 92 plays limited Kentucky to just 36 offensive snaps, the fewest against a Mizzou team in a league game since 1966 (Kansas State ran 36 in a 27-0 Mizzou win)...Cook played 94 snaps on Saturday as the team's ironman at right guard...Cook is a team captain and the heralded leader of Mizzou's O-line. - SEC Football

  07/24/20 - OG Case CookrSr/2022, Missouri, 6-4, 291 (DS#15 OG) + More +

Cook drew rave reviews from Odom and former Missouri offensive coordinator Derek Dooley last season for his play from the right guard position. With three standouts to his left at all times, defenses picked on Cook at times last year, but he held strong on many occasions. Cook played in all 12 MU games last year, starting 10. Just like Borom, Cook's responsibilities will come from the Tiger quarterback's line of vision if he stays in the same spot as a season ago. In the three spring practices before the coronavirus stopped team sports, Cook was vocal about the offensive line's promise. He'll for sure say the same things in team meetings to take on a leadership position. - Columbia Daily Tribune
