Former Missouri defensive end Tre Williams double dipped in the NCAA transfer portal over the offseason and wound up at a place with familiar faces in Arkansas. Williams (6-5, 255 pounds) transferred to Houston in January and was there for three months before deciding to move on. That led to the second jump into the portal, which ultimately reunited him with former Missouri coach Barry Odom, fellow Tigers defensive linemen Markell Utsey and five returning Arkansas offensive linemen he battled against while playing at Mizzou. "I was at Houston and the situation there was just not a good fit for me, so I was looking for a new home," Williams said. "I saw Markell was in the portal as well and I asked him where he wanted to go. "Arkansas also happened to be a good fit for him."

Williams, who was named to the SEC's All-Freshman team, played in 42 games for Missouri from 2017-20 and recorded 85 tackles, 15 tackles for lost yardage and 8.5 sacks. "Really, I am just establishing myself as a pass rusher - not only as a pass rusher, but as a dominant end," Williams said. "Coming into the season, I just have to do what I can do to improve, state my presence out there and encourage my teammates." - Northwest Arkansas Times

When former Missouri defensive end Tre Williams entered the NCAA transfer portal in April, the University of Arkansas made contact and the decision to become a Razorback was an easy one. "It was just a perfect fit for me," Williams said. "To have the opportunity to remain in the SEC and play every week and compete against the best is what I love to do." Williams, 6-5, 260 pounds, originally entered the portal in December and committed to Houston in January. He recorded 85 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks in four seasons for the Tigers. He inked with Missouri in 2016 when Arkansas defensive coordinator Barry Odom was the Tigers' coach. "Getting the opportunity to play for coach Odom again was also another big draw," Williams said. "He's a good man, a good coach and a great defensive mind." Williams' goal is to get drafted and play in the NFL. "I think that Arkansas is a place that can allow me the opportunity to accomplish those goals," he said. An ESPN 3-star prospect out of Columbia (Mo.) Rock Bridge High School, Williams chose the Tigers over Arizona State, California, Kansas State, TCU and others. - Northwest Arkansas Times

After eight months away from the Missouri football team, junior defensive end Tre Williams made his return to practice Friday. Williams was charged with felony domestic assault in December and indefinitely suspended soon after. In July, Williams pleaded guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace. The Tigers reinstated him Wednesday. As the legal process surrounding Williams concluded, Missouri head coach Barry Odom said he felt comfortable letting the former Rock Bridge standout rejoin the team.

"I got all the information we could get from the legal proceedings to all the things that we learned immediately after," Odom said. The fourth-year Tigers head coach has maintained a zero-tolerance policy with players found guilty of domestic abuse. "That's still our stance," Odom said Friday. - Columbia Daily Tribune

Missouri defensive end Tre Williams has been reinstated to the football team, the team confirmed Wednesday, and will be allowed to participate in preseason camp, which begins Friday. Williams was suspended last December after he was arrested and charged with felony assault for an incident involving an ex-girlfriend. Earlier this month, Williams pleaded guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge of first-offense peace disturbance.

He was initially charged with second-degree domestic assault, a Class C felony punishable up to seven years. Under Mizzou policy, any athlete charged with a felony is suspended indefinitely until the case is resolved. Had he been convicted of a felony Williams would have been barred permanently from playing at MU. Williams entered a guilty plea to the misdemeanor charge in Boone County circuit court on July 11 and was sentenced to two years unsupervised probation. - Post-Dispatch
